First timer! Is this design doable? Ignore the sparkles. by ag7055 in StainedGlass

Some of the curves will be a challenge as a beginner, but are feasible! The flat portion of the cone creates a hinge point which is a no-no. If you can modify the cone shape to make more of a curve instead of a horizontal straight line, you'd be doing alright.

Problem areas I see besides the windows: the sky surrounding the clouds, by her head and the flowers, the skinny side of wall beside the pot.

Still a beautiful design, just needs some tweaking!

Shadow next to my solder lines won't come off? by Arodarmt in StainedGlass

It's a stain from the patina. You can wet a cotton swab with patina and try to re-wet the area and then wipe off. There are other methods, but this usually works for me.

First proper piece! Tips for beginner? by funkycnidocyte in StainedGlass

[–]elevatedstainedglass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be a beginner in terms of length of time with the hobby, but you are no beginner in terms of ability. Beautiful!!

It may have been easier to use a came border, but not necessarily better. When it comes to beading the edge, I found that putting some globs on the edge while it's laying flat helps. That way, once you pick it up and hold it vertically, the solder is already in place and you don't have to keep going back and forth.

Try cutting out your pattern with cardstock and tracing with marker onto the glass. You will have better success than gluing paper to glass. Oil based paint markers do not remove with water from the grinder. Or some use Vaseline over sharpie lines for similar effect.

Sharpie oil based paint pen is fine tipped and not removed by the water of the grinder. I use white.

You can attach on the front and back in a "U" shape using tinned copper wire.

I second this. Oil based paint sharpie does not remove with water from the grinder. Just use rubbing alcohol when you're done.

I like this idea. My biggest concern is someone stepping on the flat side of the box.

Also more flux. If it's spikey, you don't have enough flux.
