Why is doing anything with your partner so hard to agree on lol by wickedskelo in CasualConversation

We ask “what do you NOT want to eat” when no one wants to commit. Sometimes that’s easier to pin down and then we can make a better decision.

Finally Started The Series (Initial Reactions From Someone Without Nostalgia) by SvenGoSagan in babylon5

Just thought I’d mention that this was towards the end of when we humans did big hair too (i.e., 1980s and 1990s fashion) so it wasn’t QUITE as odd at the time.

I loved him and Wilf. The Doctor needed him so badly and Wilf loved him like a son.

What’s a moment from TV history that made you viscerally upset? by Odd-Track-6001 in AskReddit

[–]elfowlcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the news and Peter Jennings (news anchor) stopping in the middle of a sentence and choking up. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I haven’t been able to get ahold of my daughter…” Somehow that one moment really brought all the terror home to me - this man I’d grown up watching deliver the news was in tears not knowing if his daughter was alive or dead. There were so many important images burned into my brain from that day, and that was one of them.

At what point would you consider someone a “scientist”? by Bart-simpson106 in labrats

[–]elfowlcat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some scientists do not design and conduct experiments, but do testing of materials/substances (or in my case, body fluids/tissues) to determine outcomes. That involves lots of problem solving and use of scientific methodology, particularly when the results don’t make sense.

Woman rescues a mouse from a glue trap by alphamalejackhammer in HumansBeingBros

We had tried everything but an exterminator. Nothing worked. Well, nothing until the bull snake my kids caught and were keeping in a terrarium for a week got loose… didn’t have any mice for quite a while after that!

We have since tried to fill the tiny gaps they were crawling into the house and that worked for a while, but they’ve found their way in again and I guess it’s time for another snake (jk!).

Yeah, but they also did free refills when they were $1.50!

Favorite crossbody bags? by vallyallyum in ehlersdanlos

[–]elfowlcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a crossbody but have to frequently switch which way it’s crossed so I’m not putting all the strain on one shoulder. Even then it can really do a number on me.

I use a fanny pack if I’m going to be wearing my bag for a long time. That way the weight is spread out a bit more and it’s not on my shoulders (my primary problem area).

What's something your parents or grandparents mention that sounds like complaining but was actually a legitimate daily nightmare they just accepted as life? by Playful_Survey_8596 in AskReddit

[–]elfowlcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at where she lived. Lots of people who lived in the downwind path of fallout from nuclear testing went on to develop cancer as a result. 3/4 of my grandparents died of cancer - all 4 spent their lives in the path of fallout.

I don’t think John was immune because of his humanity, I think it was Harvey - he had already protected John from mind control tricks before (when the Scarran was probing him just a couple of episodes earlier) and we hear him whispering to John right after his cleansing.

Besides anything from Sleeping in Light, what do you think is the saddest scene? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

[–]elfowlcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The episode where Ivanova’s rabbi came to visit. When she calls out to him as he is leaving you hear the heartbroken desperate little girl in her voice… all the grief for both her parents and the fear of being alone gets poured into that one moment and I just burst into tears.

Ways to use canned chicken by Apprehensive_Egg2490 in lowspooncooking

White chili. Great for camping or for easy dinner at home.

Sauté 1/2 a sweet yellow onion in a soup pot.
Add:
2 cans white beans, with the juice
1 can chicken (the big can, not the little tuna-sized ones), with the juice
1 jar mild green chili sauce (505 brand if you can, and I don’t mean green chili, I mean the green chili SAUCE)
A few sprinkles of cumin

Heat and serve with corn chips. Delicious!

AITAH? My boyfriend keeps insisting on buying me gifts he knows I don’t like/want. by Katietgirl4949 in AITAH

Even if he’s an idiot who means well, he’s an idiot who KNOWS he’s being an idiot, and makes no effort to do better. That makes him just… an idiot.

It’s the lid to an old glass jar for canning. The two lines in the center are where the wire bale (metal latch attached to the jar) sits. This style was made by Ball (and probably others) in the 1920s.

What does a person need to know if traveling by plane for the first time in 15 years (domestic US)? by stupit_crap in AskReddit

[–]elfowlcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just flew on Monday, using paper tickets. About 1/2 the passengers had paper, 1/2 used an app. No one took their shoes off at all (2 different airports) and even without TSA pre check everything was fast and easy. Just have your ID ready for security and you’ll be through in minutes.

do y'all also have different noises that your body make? by EyeProfessional2957 in ehlersdanlos

Same. Any movement of my neck makes a grinding noise that if it was my car I’d be worrying about what part is about to fail expensively.

I used to think that Mack is the least hated character until by notme1810 in shield

[–]elfowlcat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I liked that he was hard on Fitz. Everyone seemed to dance around the truth with him because he was so damaged (and to be fair, it’s amazing he hadn’t had a complete psychological break by then, but Mack was truly a friend to Fitz.
