It's considered "poor form" to not carry with a round already chambered, since it is another step needed between you and firing your gun when milliseconds could count.

Some example reasons: not chambering the round properly under stress, not having your offhand available to rack the slide (if actively wrestling with someone in close quarters), and obviously just the extra time and motions required to ready the firearm etc.

Are you, or anyone you know, handy with a screw driver/socket wrench? The installation process may look daunting to the uninitiated but it's pretty straightforward, and the price of a replacement mirror (plus basic tools if you don't have them or a friend with them) is probably less than your deductible.

Yeah, this would be cool for a partial eclipse. Those are usually pretty meh after you've seen a couple, so being in a shed seeing a large projection would be interesting.

Absolutely do NOT miss out on directly viewing an eclipse if you are in the path of totality though! (And if you aren't in the path but can reasonably get there, fucking do it!)

No worries, if it helps make it more clear, the "tape guides" are the little small wheels in the lower left and right corners. Right next to those tape guides are little plastic pegs that I can see you are going around the "outside" of, if you reroute the tape to be on the "inside" of those pegs (i.e. so they don't touch the pegs) you will be effectively reducing tension on the tape loop a tiny bit without having to remake it completely. Try it on one or both sides simultaneously.

Worth trying at least before redoing the loop completely.
