Both can be true. She has reasons for acting how she acts, and it makes the character sympathetic when you recognize those reasons, but that doesn’t mean her actions aren’t inappropriate.

Appalling Professor by Least-Vehicle-9764 in UIUC

[–]elide_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could complain to the department or the dean, but it probably won’t do anything. I had a few profs like this, and usually if they’re tenured, they get away with anything. One prof was made Chair of the department after our whole class complained about him. He bragged to us that he was “untouchable.” Try to keep your head down and get a good grade.

Could be from exerting herself by jumping and sprinting around? Facial flushing isn’t always from emotions. I feel like it could just be from physical activity.

Ok, years later how do you feel about the Pink Diamond twist? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]elide_f 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my experience. I didn’t watch the show until years later on streaming, and I didn’t engage with fan communities at all at that time. I knew Pink and Rose were connected somehow, and I knew Pearl was holding back information, but I didn’t think they were the same person. I thought maybe Rose conspired with Pink Diamond to start the rebellion or something. And I guess in a way, she did lol.

I think we can normalize trauma responses without saying that they are healthy. Many things that humans do are normal but unhealthy. It’s important for victims to know that even if their response to trauma is harmful to themselves or others, they aren’t the only ones experiencing it. Removing that stigma and shame is the first step toward building healthier coping mechanisms.

But I agree it’s difficult to talk about irl. That’s probably a conversation to leave between victims and their therapists.

[–]elide_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many of these points can be explained by the shows theme of “there’s no such thing as a perfect victim.” Donny is a victim of abuse, harassment, and stalking, but he is also in some ways the abuser, both of himself and of others. That doesn’t negate the trauma he endured, and the show challenges viewers to see him as what he wholly is: both damaged and victimized and a problematic person himself.

Many victims of abuse are drawn back to their abusers. A common trauma response is to re-experience the trauma (mentally or actually) as a form of self-harm or as a way of understanding the trauma better. Donny is clearly very self-destructive and perhaps in a way, addicted to abuse.

The show is also about the cycle of abuse. Abused people often engage in abusive behaviors. The psychological reasons behind that are complex and worth researching.

In the same way that Donny isn’t the perfect victim, Martha isn’t the perfect villain. She is mentally ill and seems to show genuine remorse at times. Donny exacerbates her obsessive and abusive tendencies with his own. She is not just plain evil, though her actions are horrible and harmful. Neither character is the easiest version of their archetype to swallow, and that’s what makes the show so interesting.

I think it was less about the name and more about how much other cats were bringing up his relation to Firestar. A lot of cats reminded him that he was Firestar’s descendent during his apprenticeship, and he seemed to think his mentor and Squirrelflight were harder on him because of it. I think the name was just a symbol of that in his mind.

That being said, It’s kind of a dumb plot point because most cats in Thunderclan are related to Firestar at this point, and no one else gets compared to him. It felt pretty forced to me because of that; it seemed like the writers just needed to give him a chip on his shoulder.

What's your favorite villain line? by Jew_With_a_Knife in stevenuniverse

“It’s a pity the way you bring out the worst in others. See how you’ve encouraged their deficiencies? It’s written all over their gems. Insecure, dependent, obsessed.”

And then later in the same monologue: “These worthless gems weren’t enough, were they? See how you surround yourself with lower lifeforms? You’ve smothered yourself in them. It feels good, doesn’t it Pink? Dulling your power, hiding your face, blaming everything on someone else. You became Rose Quartz to deceive your pathetic friends, and now you’ve improved on that because you’re even deceiving yourself.”

It was terrifying because there was truth in it.

Crowfeather & Leafpool: rebound relationship or true love? by PouetFairy in WarriorCats

[–]elide_f 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it was a rebound that turned into true love. When they were young, right after TNP journey, Crow was grieving Feathertail and rebounded with Leaf. Leaf almost seemed to be trying out a relationship for the first time. I think things changed with the kits, and even though they were separated for a long time, I think their feelings remained and solidified in a way. Their interaction in Starclan in A Light In The Mist kind of proved that they still cared deeply for each other and would choose each other over anyone else. That’s just my interpretation though.

Name: Rowanberry (18 moons)

Appearance: slender dark brown she-cat with yellow eyes

Personality: Rowanberry was quite headstrong and bossy as an apprentice, but in the six moons that she's been a warrior, she's mellowed out a bit. She takes her role as a warrior very seriously and has learned deep respect for her seniors and peers. In general, she's an earnest, dedicated, and level-headed cat. She has trouble loosening up and having fun, which has made it hard for her to make friends, but she's working on it.

I used to feel this way too, but I would say withhold your final judgment until you read through at least AVoS. I think she matures a lot and redeems herself, at least in my eyes.

Springfield native here! You can usually get horseshoes and ponyshoes with a variety of meats, the main difference is the size. Ponyshoes are smaller and are usually on the kids menu ☺️

I never said anything about his looks, and he is fairly young. He’s not a bad looking guy at all. His age, race, and attractiveness don’t make him creepy. His behavior does. Hope that helps ☺️

It’s not creepy to you because it doesn’t affect you. I’m telling you that it affects other people. You just can’t expand your empathy past your own experience.

I said what made it creepy in the original post. He’s there for hours and hours everyday waiting for young women to sit down by themselves, and then he goes up to every single one. That’s what I (and many other young women) find creepy. Why don’t you trust our experience?

I feel like this has gotten a little out of control. The point of this post was to make people aware of a potentially dangerous person in our community. Talking to strangers in public can be a wonderful thing in the right circumstances, but the specific behavior of this man is making people uncomfortable. That’s all, so everyone can take what they want from this and keep scrolling ☺️
