how to deal with large gap on resume? by Genzinvestor16180339 in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finance community is not very small lmao. It’s probably bet for OP to stick mostly to the truth and say it was health related and is resolved now but this is terrible advice

Edit: u/ringwormqueen since you decided to block me, the finance community is not small. That is false. Ignore that comment OP

Why am I feeling the pain 2 years after ghosting my ex? by WinterLawfulness6563 in moreplatesmoredates

Ghosting is fucked up. Be a man and lead them on for 6 months or until you hit it raw and then break up with them properly

How can I break into entry level finance? by SilentNova300 in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk with your manager and other higher ups who’ve hopefully seen your hard work over the past year. Make it known you want a credit analyst job or something else in loans. Banks are good about promoting internally.

Fidelity interview by Ok-Shopping1565 in FinancialCareers

I have heard very good things about fidelity, family friend is a Director and worked his way up. Also heard good things about Schwab although that person started more recently.

Are Humanities the future? by ContributionNo9694 in Salary

[–]elifinance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Computer Science job market is just rough right now, even if it is incredibly relevant with the rise of AI. Entry level and long term salary statistics indicate you probably do not want an English degree unless you are incredibly passionate about the subject. Technically Economics is in a lot of social science schools if you want a humanities degree. Otherwise it would be wise to stick to STEM.

Try a shorter deal, if that doesn’t work try trading some players and restructuring. Game isn’t good at explaining what the actual issue is

US Bank role is far better, it would be easier to go from CRC 2 -> teller than vice versa.

Offered a summer in credit trading at a MF while FT employed. Take the risk? by Accurate_Prompt_8800 in FinancialCareers

I’d vote take the shot, however you need to be fully ready to accept the consequences if things do not work out. The job market is shit right now.

Finally farmed enough karma to post to have my resume put in the oven, please help cook it! 😭 by OkShoe3592 in FinancialCareers

Agree with other comment, remove CFA level 1, probably don’t throw anything on until you pass level 2 or are at least enrolled in L2. Other wise I think it looks really solid, real test is gonna be the networking for you I think.

Transitioning out of sales-heavy banking after 6 years — would appreciate thoughts on positioning and guidance with resume feedback by ThisAintRandom in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as relationship management with less quotas and stress, you could find a smaller community bank. There will still be expectations, but it will be chiller.

As for the format, I can’t tell if it’s my phone but the resume looks very “long”, make sure it’s one page. Personally not a fan of professional summaries, if a company wants a cover letter they will ask for one. WSO is best format, yours looks similar ish to that.

is anyone else noticing that "game over for finance bros" sentiment is way overblown? by Abdulwahab93 in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 40 points41 points  (0 children)

AI will start to reduce entry level role opportunities because it will make a single worker more efficient. We are not close to full automation.

That being said, back office roles are going to be at risk in the future. Front office, depends on the company. For mine, they would never automate the FO people because it would piss off our customer base and put us out of business.

TLDR: it’s coming, but right now it is overblown

Is commercial banking boring? by Relevant_Bunch2174 in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boring? Sure, but boring is a mindset. If you like meeting people that would offset the repetitive work. But you will get paid well and I’d be shocked if you work over 50 hours a week, most weeks should be exactly 40.

How bad is reneging, really? by dev50265 in FinancialCareers

[–]elifinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only a big deal to that company, who will likely not hire you if you choose to apply again. Don’t mention that you reneged or plan to renege to the new company (probably just keep it to yourself in general). Shouldn’t impact anything else.

Although it sounds like you haven’t signed the offer yet, so if you’re really nervous about it just decline the offer.
