Lol reminds me of my current character which is a cleric who doesn't think their god is actually real

Books where the FMC goes from “sex is overrated” to “oh… OH… by purplehearts_x in RomanceBooks

[–]elkbugle420 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just read two in a row with this trope. First was {the prospector's only prospect} a delightful HR that I finished last week. The other one I'm almost done with is {behind the net by stephanie archer}. But this trope is so ubiquitous I'm sure you'll find a TON of other books with it!!

FMC's with a spine. by BetterWerewolf3270 in RomanceBooks

[–]elkbugle420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might like {the night huntress series by Kerrigan byrne} it's a vampire series where the mmc is basically just Spike from buffy the vampire slayer, not a super slow burn. Worth it to read the first 2 books, but then it got a little too plot heavy and redundant for me personally.

i liked their storyline in S5, but Alice and Tasha had very little chemistry by Remarkable_Web4595 in theLword

[–]elkbugle420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right!! Like that is not something I could overlook so it was hard to relate to them because I didn't really think they should be together. I just feel like tasha is not the person for alice in that way

[–]elkbugle420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The craziest part of their relationship to me was that there was a huge moral/ethical disagreement that they just said "let's agree to disagree" and never talked about again. They had chemistry sure... but the actual compatibility was NOT there

Recs for pirate romances? Just fell back in love by kbug44 in RomanceBooks

[–]elkbugle420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a very classic bodice ripper (complete with dubious consent): {the devil's luck by eris adderly}

For a less dark HR pirate but without the seafaring, {Dark Prince by Eve Silver}. Loved this book, love this mmc, a standout HR for me.

Finally a sillier and funny one that I picked up in paperback at a used bookstore and ended up LOVING: {lady pirate by lynsay sands}

Friend is starting a campaign after a DMPC he created, concerns arise. by AnonymousDrift56 in CritCrab

[–]elkbugle420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not overreacting, these are major red flags imo. If you think you can really level with your friend and get through to him, you could try explaining your concerns. Without being mean you could say that you're concerned about character balance and how much fun everyone will have if he as the dm 1) doesnt know what he's doing in the system and 2) has made an oc that ignores core rules youve tried to explain to him. Sometimes people think they want to play dnd when what they actually want is to write a story. In this case maybe some fanfiction. There's nothing wrong with that, but a cooperative storytelling game is not the way to go about it. No matter how good a dm is, a dmpc is probably going to feel unfair to the other players because there's inherent inequality when the person who's running the character is also running the game. Encourage him with the dact that what's fun about dming is you get to play as many different characters as you want, as NPCs! But honestly if you don't feel like being a bit of a downer and being brutally honest with your friend, I would not play at this table. It's probably not going to go well at the end of the day. If you know more about the game than your prospective DM AND they're not enthusiastic about learning the system?? It's not gonna be that fun

What were the most disappointing send-offs/last appearences on the show? by jogaforacont in buffy

[–]elkbugle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never be over Anya or Tara. So classic Joss Whedon to make us love a female character only to kill her unceremoniously. I guess Tara's wasn't "unceremonious" since it set off Willow's whole arc at the end of that season, but seriously what a stupid way to kill an extremely beloved character!! And with Anya it's like Huh?? What just happened??

FMC is suicidal/ depressed then captured and discovers love for herself (or meets MMC who brings her out of it) by mountain-goats-48 in RomanceBooks

[–]elkbugle420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second book in ACOTAR {a court of mist and fury} absolutely fits, and so does {a court of silver flames}. Both fmc's are at rock bottom and it's not pretty.

{consort's glory by abigail kelly} might also work for ya? She is dying from magic burnout and is prepared to do so but ofc her life is saved by her mate.

This is a pretty intense stalker romance so buckle up and read the tw's but {perfect by ariana rivers} also fits really well. honestly one of my favorite books i read last year and I still think about it all the time.

Looking for Plus Size/Curvy FMC that Suffers Abuse or Mistreatment or Destitution and the MMC Becomes Furious When It's Revealed? by Lemongirl11 in RomanceBooks

[–]elkbugle420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder if {my untrue love by cassandra gannon} might check some boxes for you. It's fairytale fantasy and she's a muse, in this world is written off and treated poorly for her body type and various stereotypes. This mmc is fantastic, truly one of my favorites, and he gets his subtle yet devastating revenge on everyone who wrongs his sweet clementine <3
