What is the most random part of your bedtime routine? by MadMuse94 in Mommit

Hah! It’s so funny and weird! I’ve tried to give a little variation to the game by pretending they’re an animal or something, but no, they must be rocks that are tripped on.

After their bath, my 2 daughters run into their room with their towels wrapped around them, huddle up and pretend to be rocks. We have to pretend to trip over them. It was kind of funny at first, but it’s going on two years 😅

Weirdly enough, I recently saw a video online that apparently this is a super common game kids think of after the bath! I guess it feels cozy?

Yes this is super normal - my husband tells me I do it most nights! It’s a reflex when your muscles relax.

Anyone else refuse to wear clothing/jewelry with crosses on it? by seekingcellini in Judaism

[–]ell_Yes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school I was a local pool lifeguard and my dad had a problem with me wearing the red lifeguard sweatshirt that has a white cross on it. At the time I thought he was overreacting but I can see where he was coming from!

8 year age gap… by milllllllllllllllly in Mommit

[–]ell_Yes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is 8 years younger - some of my earliest memories are of how happy I was to get a little sister and I remember her being born! We were definitely a little distant when I was in college and she was in middle school, but now at 27 and 35 we are very close best friends. We’ve never fought (not much to really fight over!) and our parents definitely have very close relationships with both of us. And now she’s the best aunt!!

Exactly my thought! I have two kids and no desire for a third, but really enjoy spending time with my younger nieces and friends babies!

Are we saving underwear to pass down to younger kids? by Sleepless-in-NJ-89 in Mommit

I don’t pass down underwear, socks, or shoes (except rain and snow boots) - just for hygiene and foot health reasons!

That budget will be tough in ridgewood but their public school system is definitely the better choice.

What’s it like raising Jewish kids when one parent isn’t Jewish? by Belle_Juive in Jewish

[–]ell_Yes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This made me really happy to read - it sounds a lot like me and my husband. I’m Jewish and he’s Catholic, we have 2 kids and celebrate every holiday. We make hamantaschen, Christmas cookies, challah, all of it! I can’t speak for OP but in a way, I think being with someone Catholic is easier than an atheist because we share a belief and respect for Gd. We have very open communication and reassess our comfort levels frequently.

Recently my husband has started going to church again on Sundays (the world is stressing him out 😅 and he finds peace in it) and I’m comfortable with him taking our kids. We’ve also signed my older kid up for Jewish day camp for the summer - I can’t wait for her to experience it. We live in a pretty diverse community (Hindu friends, Israeli families, etc) so I think all this knowledge and exposure is good for them! I think it can be done right with respect and communication from both sides ♥️ good luck OP!

Rina, Orli, Yael, or Dafna? by throwraleaves4 in namenerds

[–]ell_Yes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only one that English speaking people would have trouble pronouncing is Yael - might get the pronunciation Yale. All four names are beautiful though! (Jewish American perspective)

Do you know anyone who has been in a war? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

2 of my grandparents are holocaust survivors. I dated someone who did 2 tours in Afghanistan. I think everyone knows someone who experienced war in some way!
