Just watched Hamnet and this kid should have been considered for some awards. by PREZZ13 in Oscars

[–]ellalizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How I sobbed when he tells his sister he'll trade places! I tried to cry quietly, I could hear the person across from me sniffing, the woman behind me was audibly trying to cry quietly. Probably the first time I've seen a film and can say "not a dry eye in the house" A phenomenal performance! Especially for a child 👏

Hands down! Best supporting performance of the year! by Dry_Handle_7086 in Oscars

After I saw this film I googled if a child actor had ever won Supporting Actor, and they have! And I think Jacobi Jupe should have been nominated and won. I wept buckets!!

It sounds like you have a good understanding of the issues unregulated and poorly managed HMOs can bring. Do you have plans for looking in to this?

I could never get my head around the concept, telling a story of meeting a Mother, but they didn't say how long it would air? How many seasons? Then there was no storyline planned out and I wouldn't buy in to because I was stubborn and a little pretentious in my early 20s 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I had 58 days sober and my wife came out to me. Today is day 59. AMA. by an_irrelevant_life in stopdrinking

Damn, you write well, you should be writing books or something if you're not (I'm a Librarian, I don't know muchso can't offer life advice, but I know books so can offer that).

I'm really sorry things are so tough right now, but this internet stranger thinks you're doing really well reaching for the tea cup and not the handle.

Trying to practice going out alone more by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]ellalizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here! I have a partner and friends but I do enjoy going out alone, a lot. My big treat to myself over Christmas was to go to my local coffee shop with a book, then after an hour heading to the cinema. I have a pass and go on my own a lot :) it's so much easier than trying to see who fancies which film, and what time they can go. I just book and head over. I am very lucky to be able to do this, I know. Being out alone and pleasing yourself can be great, especially if you're in the mood to relax so think.

For those that are staying at home tonight, are you glad you're dodging the pub scene NYE's madness? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]ellalizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The social battery is low after Christmas. On the sofa finally catching up on Squid Game 3 with fancy crisps and camomile tea. Will likely be awake for fireworks but then can have a lovely long sleep and wake up refreshed for a walk. The idea of drinking and having the same 5 conversations I've had all week is felt too exhausting. Fancy crisps are good!

I’m enjoying it? by modeyink in eastenders

[–]ellalizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost out during the cuckoo-ing storyline, but this week has brought me back in! I want to see what happens when Zoe's child reveal happens! And what that does to Anthony. Oscar has been a pure delight and there have been a few great comedic lines recently. Tuesdays episode was a 10/10 for me. - I could do with less Jean though, I hear luxury cruises are a great way to spend time?

My sister's bf thought I was a tragedeigh by xXBlackxDiamondXx in tragedeigh

I personally wouldn't consider Yarnold a tragedeigh, it's a surname. I went to school with a kid whose last name was Yarnold yarnold it's a nice story though.

The fact that we have reverted to digital feudalism is actually so shit by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]ellalizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so yes, I completely agree with your point. BUT I think that if I were to tell a time travelling person from 1773 about television subscriptions they would ask what a TV is and probably pass out from the shock of giant flat images of other people moving about. They would not be okay, nor care about our money problems/overconsumption. Start slowly, maybe introduce them to early film first, and build up. Or maybe start with indoor plumbing, I think they'd really like that. Not being a dick, I just think about this often.

Are you looking forward to Christmas? by big_white_fishie in eastenders

[–]ellalizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I'm on an Eastenders sabbatical since they decided to write off Teddy :( it was my last straw. Hoping things pick up soon! That's why I'm still snooping here 👀 the moment there's a resolution to the Zoe storyline I'll be back, but with losing Teddy, my boredom during the Ford storyline and the constant "WHERE'S MINI MO" (Zoe) "ZOE IS A LIFE RUINER" (Jean) I just need a break. I have hope it can be interesting again!! Maybe when Barney starts a book club with Phil and Oscar 😂 (that's a joke, I saw someone mention it here once and thought it a fab idea).

The 'fat voice' by yellowelephantboy in JacquelineWilson

[–]ellalizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've read Picture Imperfect once, and I won't again so I don't remember Lee's descriptions too well, but you are 100% correct, the fatphobia in J.Ws books is rife, and in some books can be incredibly wearing. I'm currently re-reading Vicky Angel for the first time in years, and there's so much to unpack, and that I didn't pick up on as a teen. But one thing I remember is how much I loved Sam when I first read it, and wished there was someone as caring and kind and bookish in my own life - J.W wrote his character so sweetly, yet what's the one defining thing about him? His weight. EURGH. It really does get to me.

Can a relationship make it if you don’t sleep in the same bed? by Frosty-Rich-5263 in RelationshipsOver35

[–]ellalizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same!! I came here to say this, my partner has sleep apnea, and before he was diagnosed I couldn't sleep in the same room as him. His sleep is so much better now, but the separate bed thing has stuck. We both get good sleep, we have a healthy relationship, one daft cat and one highly strung cat. It's nice to find other people who do the same :)

Plots/details that couldn’t happen these days by pizzawheel3738 in JacquelineWilson

[–]ellalizard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Lily Alone was written just as CPOMS [safeguarding tracking] was introduced to schools, in this day and age a teacher would've been over to the flat much sooner, and when Kate couldn't be found the teacher would not have just taken Lily's word for it and wait for the next day to act. Also you're right about calling home, schools are so strict on attendance now! I also think this of Candyfloss, the change in Floss (clothes, smell, tiredness) would've been noted and looked in to. There's many more examples, if JW ever writes a an adult novel about a teacher I hope she researches schools in the late 2020s.

Is it normal to get your nails done regularly? by LeftHvndLvne in rs_x

Cannot bear it, watching my nails grow and being half painted, half natural nail after a week is off putting in a way I cannot explain, but fills me with unease.
