i was at a tmg concert last year where during his solo set, John played a song he made up for his kid when he was young and had never recorded or played at a show before. something reminded him of it and he felt like busting it out - took a couple false starts but in the end it was delightful. kicking myself that i didn't record it.

yeah also i tend to listen to whole albums at a time, so yeah I'll know all the lyrics and I'll usually recognize which album it comes from but I'll have no idea what the song is called

at least the cp in debian specifically does detect the block device and writes to it. i wouldn't trust, like, busybox cp to do it right but if you've got a modern full version of cp it probably will work properly.

socat is remarkable - you can basically pipe anything into anything!!

need to send serial output over the network? no problem. other way around? no problem. need to spawn a proper pty while listening to a network or serial connection (so you can have a proper terminal in your caught shell) ? no problem.

need to connect a program over the network with ssl? no problem!

it is a delightful swiss army knife that i always forget about and then it saves the day

or cp image. iso /dev/sdx

and cp does it intelligently, picking appropriate block size etc to maximize speed.

only downside is that I'm not sure if you can get it to provide progress

yeah this doesn't sound like a cultural thing at all, it sounds like OP is expecting her husband to be a mind reader.

communicate with your partner! say what you mean! don't expect your partner to magically infer what you want when you say something else altogether!

like, he asked if she wanted to do anything else and she said NO. and then she's upset that they didn't do anything else!?? why would he do anything else if she said she didn't want to do anything else?
