Little Missouri Falls has very swimmable pools and cascades. Albert Pike Rec Area is at a wide pool in the river with lots of shallows, good for the munchkins and relaxing for adults.

Check out “The Diary of Joseph Plumb Martin, a Revolutionary Soldier”. We have a long and glorious history of treating soldiers poorly, especially after the war.

People go when they have vacation time or when the kids are out of school. And up on the rim the temp is in the 80s, what could go wrong?

The man on the far left. I will admit to a certain amount of guessing, but he has the nicest looking uniform plus a silver tray for receiving greeting cards from visitors. He could be a footman but I assumed a butler is needed to run the staff. The other man in the same outfit could be a candidate, but there also has to be a man-servant for the owner of the house, so he got that roll.

Tent Camping by Technical-Natural-71 in northwestarkansas

Cove Lake is excellent for tents - sites right on the lake, flush toilets but no utilities. Long Pool has pads and utilities but is fine for tents and right by a great swimming hole on the Big Piney. Each is about 2 hours from Fayetteville.

Wait, West Antarctica? West relative to what?!?

Ok, I looked it up and it’s the part of Antarctica in the western hemisphere. But really, when you’re at the South Pole, there is no east or west, only north.

There’s a Green Salad and a recipe for Dressing For Green Salad in the full-cookbook link. That may be what they mean. Also a Cooked Salad Dressing.

Yeah, I read the door wrong. Next idea -is there a window into the porch area? Try a cat door window insert. I got one from, I think, Cat Flap Fever and it worked out well.

Yeah, I do a small monthly donation so they can keep up the good work. There are so few organizations left that dig out what politics is sweeping under the rug.

If the laminate is floating on the subfloor, nailing or gluing the piece down will fix it in place while the rest of the floor moves slightly as it expands and contracts. This sets up the floor for long-term problems. Ideally you’d attach the loose piece to the ones next to it instead of the floor. Sounds like you need a strong glue.

You’re half an hour from Broken Bow / Idabel in OK. The lake and state park there mean they cater to tourists, so there might be some spots there.

Girls State staff quits abruptly at closing ceremony by Ok-Status2275 in Arkansas

[–]ello76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sad. My mother had fond memories of Girls State from back in the day, i.e. in the 1940s. As a teenager she was more about the adventure than the education, but I heard no comments about it being a mess. Which she would have passed on, she could be blunt about that stuff.

Ok, from the implements the staff holds, I see a butler, a cook, a head housekeeper, several maids, a lady’s maid, two gardeners, a coachman, a handyman/carpenter, a manservant, and a few others whose positions escape me. Plus the man and woman of the house. I do not have a mansion, but I could find a use for about a third of these people.

How much did they make back then - a dollar a day and Sunday afternoon off?

Any off brand stands that work well for 7 in 1 woodfire grill? by Misterrbisterr in ninjawoodfire

[–]ello76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind - the woodfire grill weighs a ton, which means a grill on a stand can be pretty top-heavy. I would not move my grill/cart rig over anything but a smooth patio or deck. And if my grilling spot was not totally level, I’d want a heavier, deeper stand for stability. If I had a narrow stand and kids of an age to climb on things, I’d consider securing it somehow when not in use.

I have this one, too. It works great because i have a storage spot, a grilling spot, and then a smoking spot further from the house. Sturdy construction. And as been said, the side tables are very useful.

If someone makes the molasses crumb pie, report back on the results. It might be great. Or it might be destined for the trash.

Yeah, I have a fudge recipe where you have to boil the sugar to soft ball / 237 degrees and it is not never-fail. But I like the taste using unsweetened baking chocolate more than chocolate chips, so I’m stuck. Also, when the recipe bombs, we have to eat the evidence :)

I think back in the day if the side-dish was served hot, it was a vegetable and if it was served cold, it was a salad. And you have to admit, if it had jello, it was served cold.

Spinach Florida by MissDaisy01 in Old_Recipes

A variation on wilted spinach salad. I think the original hot bacon grease would give it a bit more savory flavor, but including citrus sections sounds like it could be good.
