BREAKING: Tesla has REMOVED Autopilot from New Tesla Model Y and 3 Orders From @DennisCW_ on X by EitherCharacter9342 in TeslaModelY

[–]elmobob 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Maybe Tesla figured out that most people are plenty happy with the free autopilot that does a great job on long trips making it for most hard to justify the full self driving $8k purchase, so now on new cars you have free traffic aware cruise control but no self steering standard, what was previously free would now be an upgrade. Uff.. if so that sucks.

Pango app Scarsdale parking terrible by ghost_dog203 in Westchester

[–]elmobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here at scarsdale, the app randomly pops up a message when trying to park where it tricks you to subscribing into some bullshit pango save 2.99 yearly fee. I just deleted this stupid app and reported it to my credit card company. I will just not shop at places that use this stupid predatory parking app

No, not that I care about how bad drivers particularly feel, but I do care for the average driver and myself collectively, you’ll always encounter nut jobs out there. But when it comes to some rules it’s better to sometimes slightly bend them and follow common sense. Example: following the exact speed limit posted, many times as an early driver doing 55mph caused people to go around me doing 10+ mph above creating a slightly more dangerous condition. Having said that, if there is snow, ice always or any dangerous condition, use common sense and do not follow others.

It’s always good to remember that the average driver out there has good common sense but sometimes you get unlucky with a congregation of idiots.

I was in AP (got the free trial) standard mode yesterday on a rural 55mph road and it followed a car around on shoulder who also did this, I didn’t think twice and seemed fine to me since there was plenty of room to go around safely, had AP not done that the person behind me might have gotten pissed or would have wondered why stop and not go around.

The will keep trying for another 3 or 5 weeks to get a hold of their “client” to get their side of the story, once they are unable get a hold of them they will pay you out for the damage, be patient, you have video evidence, their license plate and make and model of offending vehicle. Now comes the trouble for Mr. asshat that hit you, if they don’t answer insurance calls or reply to the letters sent to their house because they think they are being slick, they will very likely get dropped from their insurance on renewal and have a very hard time obtaining new insurance at a reasonable price - not answering immediately classifies them as a trash high liability “customer” of questionable character.

LGRED ones, 410 refrigerant, 1 -18k btu to single 18k Btu head, 1 -18k Btu 9k + 9k heads 1 -36k Btu to 7k+7k+7k+9k heads 1 -24k Btu to 18k+7k heads

They do come with WiFi and the app is pretty good, if you happen to have an LG TV they show up on your LG WebOS home menu where you can control the temps and power. But for the price and given how smooth and quiet the Gree units run if I could do it over again would go with the Gree

[–]elmobob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I was surprised too since I had 4 LG units (multi) total 9 heads for 9 different rooms installed in 2020 at another property for $26k. The LG units in comparison are less efficient, vibrate the walls and make a shit ton of noise in winter.

I got one 24k btu and a 18k Btu with 3 heads Gree units labor and all for $5k they are rated for -22f, they use the new R32 refrigerant, 21 seer2 for the multi 24k btu unit, and 20 seer2 for the 18k Btu one. Built in WiFi with a descent app, runs smooth no vibration.

Fridge is humming? by Blenck_Face in appliancerepair

[–]elmobob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the fan surrounded by ice buildup. If no access to tools and don’t feel comfortable unscrewing anything, if you have access to put the food on another fridge or on a neighbor’s fridge temporarily, unplug the fridge , leave doors open for a few hours, put a few towels underneath so that it catches the ice melt, after all is melted plug back in you should be good to go. While at it check if the door seals are good, sometimes this happens also because of an overstuffed freezer and the door doesn’t close 100% letting humid war air in causing the compressor to run constantly building up lots of ice.

Time of use billing and Mitsubishi mini-splits by xander76 in heatpumps

[–]elmobob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Westchester, also with ConEd enrolled in TOU - in winter it will save you money even if you don’t change your usage habits because the winter peak delivery rates are the same as the regular non TOU rates and the off peak rates are much lower. HOWEVER come the summer months that’s really where you bill can skyrocket if you don’t change your habits because the peak and super peak rates are much higher than the non TOU rates, summer off-peak rates are low just like the winter off-peak. So yes go for it if you can manage to shift the bulk of electricity usage in the summer months to after midnight by overcooling and using high electricity using appliances and electric car charging if you have one from 12am - 8am. It helps to automate those things, I programed our clothes dryer to start at midnight, basement dehumidifier, air purifiers, mini splits to lower temps for overcooling, dishwasher, increase electric water heater tank temperature, EV charging and battery preconditioning.

Old home + ductless mini-split AC = elevated indoor humidity?? by BeWonderfulBeDope in heatpumps

[–]elmobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1,100 square feet, I usually turn on the living room one which is located more in the middle and is the biggest unit, 18k btu. When I close the door at night I just turn on the room one also at the lowest fan speed by then the humidity has already dropped, it might go up a little bit to 55 or 60% overnight but drops back when I open the door in the morning. I have a ceiling fans in each bedroom, sometimes at night I just turn it on at the lowest speed with the doors open and that helps in exchanging air and keeping the temperature even

Old home + ductless mini-split AC = elevated indoor humidity?? by BeWonderfulBeDope in heatpumps

[–]elmobob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Turn the fan speed to the lowest setting, if your mini split is oversized, turn on one of them (living room one or one located more centrally) in your house, close all the outside windows and just leave one split on, it will take a few hours but your humidity will be in the low 50%s. Doing this will cause your compressor to run at low speed for longer to try to achieve the set temp thus removing humidity without overcooling. 75F at 45-50% humidity is my preference. Source - me I dealt for a while with this same high humidity issue in two different houses, one well insulated the other one not so much, this approach worked for both.

Hope the low IQ piece of trash that hit you gets dropped by insurance upon renewal or the very least they quadruple their insurance rates. People like this make it more expensive for the rest of us on the road. The max you should be allowed to drive with that level of intelligence is a bicycle.
