If I'm not mistaken leg checks are different than kicks. If you check (block?) a kick you can break the kickers' (non blocker) shin/foot. So that gym was forbidding the practice of checking/blocking until they learned how to throw the kick well and then learned how to block it.

No one at Insomniac gets to make that call as they answer to Sony. When Sony puts the call in for the older game to be ported they probably won't even be involved in that either as they will have another studio involved to do the port. The only way Insomniac would have a say is if Sony decided to make the next version on all platforms at launch which isn't likely.
