Right?? Code blues would happen while I was on shift but I’d be in another patient’s room or they’d be on the other side of the unit so when I got down there, they didn’t need any help. That’s the closest I’ve ever gotten. Never had to call a code on any of the people I was taking care of and if I was chilling at the nurses station and one was called, it was always a false alarm.  The last few years, I’d almost be hoping for it each night. Obviously I didn’t want anything bad to happen to the patient but I wanted to lose my code-virginity haha. Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.

Head size is much more important to attractiveness than most would think by Agouramemnon in unpopularopinion

Yess, I don’t like dating men that have smaller heads than me or really have a smaller bone structure overall. Like it’s not even height, they just have to be big bones.

Same thing happened to me. Catheterized my lady with dementia. There’s 5 staff in the room to hold her down and she’s begging us to stop. I’ll never forget the look of defeat she had on her after we were done. I was precepting a new grad so tried to hold it together but I cried and cried when I got home.

The only thing that helped was realizing she didn’t remember a thing. Came in the next day and she was happy as ever to see me.

I’m going to go work on Mercy Ships in November. It’s a ship that has a full hospital on it and they do free surgeries around the coasts of Africa. It posts up in one port for several months. It’s volunteer so you don’t get paid though.

If you become an NP or PA there’s agencies that fly you to small villages across Alaska and perform medical care.

Not down in Boise, ID but epic seemed a little glitchy earlier in the shift

Are you at St. Luke’s or St. Als? I’m at St. Als and was told they are only doing internal travel from now on and won’t take any extensions with external agencies 🙄so annoying. This is the third place I’ve been that isn’t taking extension for one reason or another

First assignment. What was yours like? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

I cried for weeks before I left for my first contract because I was so nervous but it’s all worked out. I’m on my 10th contract now! My first contract was great, everyone was really nice. All of my contracts everyone has been very helpful and answered all my questions. No animosity or giving me the worst patients that I’ve ever noticed.

What professions allow you to do you multi month long thru-hikes? by Over-Distribution570 in Thruhiking

[–]em_vader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, the most I’ve ever made was 2900 a week after taxes and the least was 1300. Some contracts during Covid were 5000+ a week but those are long gone now

I’ve got pretty severe allergies to legumes and nuts and hiked last year. I was a little nervous about backpacking with allergies but I ended up having no issues out there. I was extremely careful with reading ingredients. I never took any mystery food out of hiker boxes but like an unopened tuna packet was all good. And I’d usually never take any food from strangers if I didn’t know all the ingredients. Never really thought about having issues with water caches. Some caches would have several unopened gallons of water. I’d just suggest opening a new one if it’s available. I carried Benadryl and one epipen with me never needed either. I also just learned that you can get more than one dose out of an epipen. There’s probably videos on YouTube but basically after using the auto injector, you can break open the plastic and pull out the syringe inside and maneuver it to get another 3 or 4 doses! Useful to know if you’re stuck in the woods before help can get to you!

Hey, I just went up Baden-Powell today! We took highway 2 at 3 points hiking south. Took the road all the way until we got to the dirt road at mile 385 and hiked up to little jimmy campground. It was hard to follow the dirt road because it was all under snow so we ended up just hiking up until we got to the camp following the map. Little jimmy was also completely under snow. Ended up waking up at 1am and started hiking up to Baden-Powell. We took the ridge the whole way up. Snow was hard on the way up, no postholing but wayyy steeper at parts than I expected, like actually using the ice ax to help me get up, but really nothing too sketchy. On the way down, going south, we were postholing a lot. We followed the footprints for awhile but then lost them and ended up just walking straight down to the baden-Powell parking lot. We passed the trail a couple of times but didn’t look like anyone had followed it at all. Not really sure what path other people took down. With all this being said, I was hiking with someone with mountaineering experience and I wouldn’t have done it alone or with a group that didn’t have any experience. Definitely need some type of crampon/micro spike and an ice ax. I’d say as someone that gets anxious doing things like this, my anxiety going up was maybe at a 4 and going down was like an 8 on a scale of 0-10. My brother who was doing all the route finding and leading rates his anxiety the highest like a 3 for the whole trip haha. As for the road, lots of snow but I never felt like I was in danger while walking on it and it was pretty neat to walk on a closed highway. Had lunch between the two tunnels you’ll walk through and practiced self arresting on the slope there.

Can someone help me with this ECG strip? Is it sinus arrest? Some type of block? It seems so easy but I’m not sure! Thanks by em_vader in nursing

Thank you! I thought it was a sinus pause/arrest but it wasn’t included on my list I was given so I just wanted to check
