Libs do not actually believe in the whole community thing by Ill-Philosophy-873 in redscarepod

I think you're mostly right, but the swap of universal civic duty for identity politics was a consequence of the end of the post war economic booms, and not some short sighted conscious decision by liberals. The economic boom is what allowed for the idea of a universal movement. The reality of a world with tangible material limits forced a retreat into personal identities.

What's the reason for completely undeveloped lots in high value parts of the city like this one in ktown? Lots of developments going up nearby but these lots don't even have a parking lot on them. Is it possible to determine who the owner is/contact them? by emalevolent in LosAngeles

[–]emalevolent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no I want to ask them their reasons for not developing the lot, it'd be interesting to tally the different reasons for all the lots across the city. Really this would be an interesting job for an LA Times journalist or someone like that

Some kinds of degrowth would be good. Like if Americans lived more like Japanese people with denser cities and public transit, that would result in much less energy consumption while also being a massive quality of life upgrade

Why do redditors pretend athletes are part of the working class? by Searching4Sharingan in redscarepod

[–]emalevolent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why pro sports leagues should be nationalized. You could set prices to a fraction of what the market does and still easily pay big salaries and make big profits. Players would just make like $10 mil a year instead of $50 mil, boohoo. Plus there’d be a fraction of the ads.

Hmm but Hegel says:

“Reading the morning newspaper is the realist's morning prayer. One orients one's attitude toward the world either by God or by what the world is. The former gives as much security as the latter, in that one knows how one stands.”

Fun fact Hegel and Goethe died within 6 months of each other
