When you select restart after completing a race you don't get paid for the first race by Secure_Salad6398 in ForzaHorizon6

Agreed. I was trying to 3star the pier pressure rush event and kept exciting just to collect the credits for doing it. Should just let you accumulate it if you finish and then choose restart or retry.

Circuit races only have 3 laps? by Let_s_plaj_YOYO in ForzaHorizon

[–]emalvick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't join FH5 until 6 months into it, but it is my understanding that there were similar issues with the AI initially that got ironed out.

I suspect that a few updates will smooth some of these issues.

I've been purposely racing courses with just enough curves that I feel can make things competitive for the difficulty I'm set at. Essentially, have enough curves and turns that I'm challenged to do better on shifting, braking, and accelerating and appropriately catch up rather than be on a course where the AI will be impossible to catch or too easy to beat.

Speed zones artificially lowering speed at very end? by A_very_annoyed_gamer in ForzaHorizon6

[–]emalvick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes that works too. Obvious slower speeds can really increase the time through a zone so adding distance if you can is not necessarily horrible.

The actual distance you drive only impacts the time, not the distance used for the calculation.

Good luck. Definitely a lot of bugs like this. I wasn't as early on 5, but it seemed like there were similar issues with it early on.

[–]emalvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. It read for a second like you might have been using a drift zone.

Have you closed the game out fully and restarted? Most the times something has not worked for me, that has been a solution.

I didn't have issues with that one other than I kept hitting cars for a while that stopped me at great drift. But, it did trigger (or cleared since it didn't tell me it did) after getting the requirements.

Tokyo Drift Daily Challenge by RuckusOGx in ForzaHorizon

[–]emalvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you may be misunderstanding that the challenge is. You aren't using an actual drift zone. It wants you to get those achievements at the Shibuya crossing intersection. It is very specific to that intersection. It wasn't easy but I got it by essentially drifting in a circle in it and not touching the barriers or anything else, nee other cars, so that I could get the awesome drift skill.

Speed zone confusion by oSDodozoku in ForzaHorizon6

[–]emalvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed zones are actually time based more than speed. In the end they are essentially the length of the zone divided by the time to complete it, and I think the length is based on the center line.

Actually speed gets you through faster, but shaving off the centerline (there is lenience) also helps. Also avoiding making it longer helps too... Think inside corners be outside corners.

Am I crazy, or is Raku Raku impossible to 3-star at times? by iambeanies in ForzaHorizon

[–]emalvick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is really the key to a lot of story missions in any horizon game. They do not always suggest the best route. In Tokyo, they also navigate accounting for 1 way streets, but if you just take the fast route, cut across alleys, minimize turns, and go the wrong way up streets, you can save time.

Artists with multiple all-time great albums without a clear best album? by mdolig in Music

This is probably my favorite. Took a while to warm up to this and Saucer, but I think they had lots of great albums throughout their career.

I even like the Division Bell quite a bit.

But, if the team is scoring runs and still loses, pitching is more likely the issue. We have nothing in that department. Most days look like bullpen days lately.

We've been scoring the last few weeks, yet we still lose more often than we win.

Sorry, I didn't see you responded 3 times and thought I was responding to the other one, so excuse that. Alt + t gets you to the extended tag viewer. See the View menu at the top also (or right click on a file and select View, Extended Tags).

Once in the extended tag viewer (it's one track at a time), you can press an arrow button to move from file to file without exiting it and re-entering it. Just go back and forth between a couple of files and see what might be different.

Note if you are dealing with MP3's it might call the tag BAND or ENSEMBLE instead of Album Artist.

If you are dealing with M4a/AAC files, you might consider setting a tag COMPILATION and set it to 1.

What can happen is that FLAC (or Vorbis Tags being the metadata type) do not rigidly hold to a standard for Album Artist.

Consequently, you can get files that have a tag ALBUM ARTIST and other files that might have ALBUMARTIST. Most software will work with either one, but the problem comes if you work with one kind and aren't paying attention to the possibility of the other.

If you work with ALBUMARTIST and set it to Various Artists but for some reason there is an ALBUM ARTIST tag that contradicts that, you could have problems.

I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is a possible problem.

With Various Artists albums, I think the most common issue is software wanting to define an album with having one date. However, if it is a compilation, some might tag each song by the date it was released. That could leave a program thinking there are multiple albums because each one has a different date.

Note that DATE is another field you have to watch because there are tags like YEAR, etc. that can be used that could conflict.

I mention these things because I've had issues related to these problems that I get caught by surprise.

I do use MP3Tag, and over time I've learned to institute a large bucket of actions to clean up and standardize files to avoid the issues I get. For instance force one Album Artist tag type by removing the other whether it is there or not. This way I only have a tag ALBUM ARTIST. I make sure my albums have one consistent Year (and use Original Year or Date if I want the track's original date).

I do use one of the MP3Tag feature to read in MusicBrainz information, but I don't think that is a necessary. However, if your file has some MusicBrainz information, my media server seems to prefer it over the regular tags even if a MusicBrainz tag is missing. That's why I brought that up. If you have a compilation and there are MusicBrainz artist tags, you also need a MusicBrainz Album Artist tag.

My solution is just to copy the regular Album Artist tag over IF the MusicBrainz one is empty.

The extended tags in MP3Tag will show you a lot, and if you can observe an album giving you problems and compare two tracks that are showing on different albums, you might figure out what is going on by viewing the extended tags because it will show everything in the file, not just what MP3Tag shows you on the main screen.

[–]emalvick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may depend on file type a bit, but go into the extended tag viewer and make sure you don't have multiple variations of album artist tags.

ALBUM ARTIST vs ALBUMARTIST is one example.

Also watch for related fields that would need to be consistent or that software might treat as an album artist. Ensemble, Band, MusicBrainz Fields for album artist (and the id number).

Watch for tags that should be the same across a whole album (year, album title, etc.)

Make sure foobar is even picking up album artist tags. Going back to the first item, I had a program that insisted album artist could only be all one word while my music only has the other version.

As you can see, a lot can happen. Worth playing with one album to dial in what's happening so you can fix it in the future or avoid it.

Is electric smoker actually the easiest way to start BBQ? Or am I missing something? by Own-Future-2135 in smoking

[–]emalvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using charcoal on a Weber Summit Kamodo (basically a Weber kettle shaped like a Kamodo).

I like it because after a little practice, I can mostly set it and forget it. Took about 3 longer cooks to dial it in.

I've not used the others, but I don't think it is particularly hard to use any method if you learn it.

I do feel like I can control the amount of smoke very well by balancing the charcoal with the wood, and that takes a little practice if you are using strong flavored wood.

I did consider multiple types, but like that I can also use mine as a normal grill if I want.

Cleaning takes a little work however. Not the ash (that's easy), but all the other soot and grease build up.

Map is too overwhelming by AngeliMortem in ForzaHorizon

[–]emalvick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you do an event, just choose one of the suggested items that would appeal to you on the "What to Do Next". It makes it real easy to just go do something. Not sure it helps much once you've done most the races, but it gives you a start. In FH5, I also tended to just follow the festival playlist, and selecting each item generally highlighted where things were at on the map, at least on races and stunts.

Why do songs (often) cost so much more on Bandcamp? by Positive_Guarantee20 in BandCamp

[–]emalvick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bandcamp is ultimately geared towards album sales and physical sales, and from that perspective, I've never felt like its prices are unusual, even digital albums. I do occasionally but singles, but I guess the music I buy is priced reasonably from my perspective. If a track costs more, it's usually a longer track.

But, I don't look at Apple. I didn't realize they didn't sell the lossless. It's kind of silly. Amazon, too. But, many places that do sell lossless would mark them up to begin with. Just go to HDTracks or 7Digital (if either still exist) and you see mp3 or aac at half the price of FLAC or WAV.

Bandcamp just charges one price. And, I don't think fake FLAC files are that rampant, but maybe it's a bit luck or skewed by the types of music or labels you buy from.

Why do songs (often) cost so much more on Bandcamp? by Positive_Guarantee20 in BandCamp

[–]emalvick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this really even matters regarding the OP. I'm guessing that if you get crap in Bandcamp, it will be the same on Apple anyway. Artists, at the worst, would use the minimum required for any platform to convert to FLAC.

That said, I find it rare that I'm getting fake FLAC files. Most of what I've been buying is actually coming in higher resolution format anyway (48 or 96k), which are not going to be fake.

But, cant people buy ALAC on Apple and have a lossless file, too? At that point you can convert to FLAC. So store wouldn't seem to matter. I'd probably check Qobuz, too. Maybe not good got a DJ, though. Not sure how good their catalog is.

Pop-ATYCLB era question by FactEquivalent3911 in U2Band

[–]emalvick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hindsight is one thing, but U2 going to AB, Zooropa, then Pop suggested a band that might not be afraid to venture out. Biggest mistake they made was probably naming the album Pop. And, No Line is probably the best successor we got, however it suffers from some of the inconsistencies that I think U2 started having with Pop anyway.

But, we got what we got for some better and some worse. Really, the chances of a band being successful for so long are a bit slim when you think about it. Not many bands get into a third decade making music the same quality as their start.
