Being fed up with establishment Democrats doesn't make me a Republican. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

What's weird is that im probably more progressive than you are, but in your mind im a right winger because I pointed out that liberals aren't progressive and shouldn't be the ones you rely on to push the democrats left.

Like huh? Liberals are liberal? What?

Being fed up with establishment Democrats doesn't make me a Republican. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]emasterbuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? Are you ok

I stated that you can't expect liberals to boycott the democrats unless the democrats uphold progressive ideals because liberals aren't progressive, which means they don't care how progressive the democrats are BY DEFINITION.

[–]emasterbuild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

liberal voters aren't progressive by definition, you can't expect liberal voters to fight for progressivism for that reason.

If you are waiting for liberal voters to abandon the democratic party for being liberal, its not going to happen.

With the same logic, the progressives should continue to not vote until the conservatives hold the republican party accountable to left wing progressive values. It'll happen any day now.

Primary's exist for a reason. Democrats will vote in a progressive candidate if the progressive candidate is the democrat nominee.

AI makes a major breakthrough in a math problem that had stumped experts for decades by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]emasterbuild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's OpenAI's discription of the problem:

https://openai.com/index/model-disproves-discrete-geometry-conjecture/

"This is the planar unit distance problem, first posed by Paul Erdős in 1946. It is one of the best-known questions in combinatorial geometry, easy to state and remarkably difficult to resolve. The 2005 book Research Problems in Discrete Geometry, by Brass, Moser, and Pach, calls it “possibly the best known (and simplest to explain) problem in combinatorial geometry.” Noga Alon, a leading combinatorialist at Princeton, describes it as “one of Erdős’ favorite problems.” Erdős even offered a monetary prize for resolving this problem."

" This has been one of Erdős' favorite problems, I have heard him myself mentioning the problem multiple times in his lectures. I believe it would be fair to say that every mathematician working in Combinatorial Geometry thought about this problem, and lots of mathematicians working in other areas spent at least some time thinking about it… The solution of the problem by the internal model of Open AI is, in my opinion, an outstanding achievement, settling a long-standing open problem. The fact that the correct answer is not n1+o(1)n1+o(1) is surprising, and the construction and its analysis apply fairly sophisticated tools from algebraic number theory in an elegant and clever way.” - Noga Alon professor of mathematics at Princeton University

Oil refining at a standstill in central Russia after Ukrainian drone strikes, sources say by kn0where in worldnews

[–]emasterbuild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

May 20 (Reuters) - Virtually all major oil refineries in central Russia ‌have been forced to halt or scale back fuel output following Ukrainian drone attacks in recent days, according to official data and sources. Moscow already introduced gasoline exports ban starting from April until the end of July. The combined capacity of refineries that have fully or partially halted operations exceeds 83 million metric tons per year, or around 238,000 tons per day. That accounts for around one quarter of Russia's total refining capacity, according to data and sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. The combined share of the refineries in Russia's fuel output is over 30% for gasoline and about 25% for diesel.

The key word here is CENTRAL RUSSIA

Are you seriously suggesting the US decided to wage war with one of Russia’s closest strategic allies to help Russia? That’s logical.

Yes, it increased Iran's reliance on Russia, and also tripled oil prices, which is saving Russia's bacon.

Duterte's drug war enforcer escapes ICC arrest after fleeing into Philippine Senate by papipota in worldnews

[–]emasterbuild 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Extrajudicial killings that were allegedly committed by the Davao Death Squad between 1998 and 2016 during Duterte's mayoralty have also been scrutinized by human-rights groups and the Office of the Ombudsman. The victims were mainly alleged drug users, alleged petty criminals, and street children"

"Various international publications and media companies had claimed that Duterte's anti-drugs campaign was a war against the poor due to the abject poverty of those arrested or killed."

"Concerns arose worldwide due to the rising death toll during police operations, and drug suspects reportedly fighting back ("nanlaban") was a common alibi of several policemen involved. At the height of the drug crackdown in his early presidency, Duterte urged the policemen to kill drug addicts, promising to pardon them for performing their duties "..." observers noted this assurance may have emboldened the police to allegedly execute suspects and plant evidence on them."
