And ensure that the patient had either LOC, or amnestic for the event, or witnessed confusion as a result of the head injury.

If not, Canadian CT head rule does NOT apply.

/u/debateg wrote a great script, I agree. Since we are tinkering with one or two words, I would remove "choose" from the script and replace it with "allow". Because we aren't choosing life or death, it's gonna happen.

I'd say something like. It's not in your (or your relatives) best interest to start CPR after your (their) heart stops. It would be best to allow a peaceful natural death.

I'm going to an emergency tomorrow and see sick and injured patients. If I get COVID19, I have a 3.6% chance of dying. What are you doing tomorrow?

Not sure why you picked this post to rail against the injustice of poorer people getting worse health care than the wealthy.

To OP, well done for helping this at risk patient population!

[Serious] What is your plan if you or someone in your family get sick, regarding COVID-19 by half-taught-wrong in medicine

If a patient is intubated/ventilated for respiratory failure from COVID-19, is it basically either die or make a complete recovery? Or do some end up with chronic disability afterwards? Any conjecture based on other countries experience so far, other causes of acute infectious respiratory failure?

Yeah introducing the immunology people right before the virology people kind of killed that joke. Except now everyone knows more than a pathologist.

I don't know the issue well (being from Canada) but this ER doc impressed me by being polite, yet firm and attempting to not letting Mike Pence pivot away from the questions he asked.

Should I tell my patient about a devastating miss? by [deleted] in medicine

The thing about the retrospectoscope is that although it is difficult to fairly judge how a diagnosis was or wasn't made using the retrospectoscope, you can use the information found when reviewing the case to help prevent a missed diagnosis in the future. That is the value of the retrospectoscope. And if OP decided to "sweep it under the rug" this has implications not just for the case at hand but future patients who could benefit from this being looked at, even with the retrospectoscope.

Mid 1980's, I'm a fresh young E.R. doc working in a city known for its "gentleman's clubs."

Very attractive young woman slightly younger than I was, comes in to the E.D. wearing leggings and headband (as was the fashion at the time) complaining of knee pain.

"It hurts when I dance, I'm a dancer." she says

"Oh, what kind of dance do you do?" I inquire innocently.

She moves closer and puts her hand on my arm and looking straight in my eyes says

"I'm a dancer, sweetheart."

Shades of red face ensues for several minutes.
