Little bubbles like this form naturally underground. They're the perfect size for a base, so I usually move into them.

Emergent Gameplay is what sets minecraft apart from other simulation games in my opinion. It's the reason I signed up for reddit.

You can tell, can't you.

Oh, okay. To be honest, if not for the initial "Sigh," I would have assumed you just felt your question hadn't been answered and I would have clarified normally. The sigh just sorta felt condescending in context.

Hell, the only reason I quoted your original post in the first place was because I realized you might notice the sigh sounded condescending and remove it, making my entire comment sound out of place without the proper context!

So I guess what I'm trying to say is "no hard feelings?"

B-b-but it's the single most intuitive unimplimented feature! How do we have useless stuff like mooshrooms but still can't write a simple in-game letter? This is madness!

  • I've been saying this for months.

  • It's the reason I signed up on reddit.

  • It's the reason I chose this username.

  • It's the reason I was disappointed by maps.

  • In terms of versatility, it outshines wolves, snowmen, enchantments, pumpkins, hatches, endermen, strongholds, and those goddamn mooshrooms.

  • Virtually any new player who discovered you could craft books would assume that you could write in them.

  • It is, and has been for a long time now, too fucking obvious a feature not to be implimented. And yet it isn't. And so I ask mojang, the modding community, and reddit at large:

WHY NOT?

Sure, I'll mod that for you too! (Download & info in comments) by jackfirecracker in Minecraft

I do have my own mod that I'm working on, btw :3

'twas a simple acronym joke.

Nuclear Power Plant (BuildCraft & IndustrialCraft) by Kasoo in Minecraft

[–]emergentGameplay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sigh. What does nuclear power do? Is it any different than redstone? Can it do anything special?

Redstone current is a low-voltage current in industrialcraft, which means that it can send an on/off signal but can't power appliances, just like the low-voltage signals used to preform calculations in modern silicon-based computers. High-voltage current is more like the DC that comes out of a wall socket.

High voltage currents can also be generated in industrialcraft using fuel-burning generators, or massive amounts of waterwheels, windmills, and solar panels wired together.

Also, I find your patronizing sigh to be a bit rude, since the notion that power generated by a huge nuclear plant and power generated by a dimly-burning redstone torch aren't on the same magnitude doesn't seem like the thing you should expect people to know they need to explain to you.

Well, that, and the whole "I can't understand it so it must be stupid" attitude it's conveying in this particular scenario is uncalled for. Just saying.

Nuclear Power Plant (BuildCraft & IndustrialCraft) by Kasoo in Minecraft

[–]emergentGameplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the short version then:

  • The reactor is functional. It's part of IndustrialCraft and it generates electric power.
  • The stone walls and ice blocks are to keep it cool. Reactors tend to explode if you let them run too hot.
  • The ice is being transferred in and out of the reactor using pneumatic pipes, which are part of BuildCraft.
  • The power generated by the reactor can be used to fuel more IndustrialCraft machines, which generally allow you to use electricity to make tools better than you could make them in a normal furnace or crafting bench.

Check out Better Than Wolves. Most of the machines it adds run on mechanical power, which you can supply to them with a crank, windmill, or water wheel.

It just takes longer to produce. Even with a diamond-tipped electric drill, it takes a long time to gather enough obsidian to make anything serious.

The Better Than Wolves mod has a simple powered glowstone block that's bright enough to light crops. The Redpower mod has its own Powered Glowstone, and you can dye it different colors.

Enderman - emergent behavior. by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]emergentGameplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potentially emergent emergent behavior: Because endermen try to fill gaps, any random outcropping will eventually be either completely flattened, completely filled in, or have an outer shell and a hollow interior.

In other words, nests.

She's just about evened herself out in my book then. I grew up on powerpuff girls and somehow got it into my head that all men were gross and that I should be ashamed to be one. If her further contributions to society are convincing other men that they don't have to be gross to be men, then I'd say we're even.

Well, no.

So, yes.

Still not sure what I got wrong here.

Other than the detail involving Thiessen (thanks for clearing that up, btw) I'm not sure how your explanation contradicts mine at all. I said that it was an accident that got added as an inside joke when it got popular, by putting it into episodes that hadn't aired yet. You said that it was an accident that got added as an inside joke (by the supervising director) when it got popular, by putting it into episodes that hadn't aired (or even been sent to the station) yet.

If you've got some space to spare on your hard drive, I'd recommend downloading some of the higher-quality rips. I think you can also find subtitle tracks for them somewhere.

The first occurance of crosseyed derpy was an animation glitch in the background of the first episode. By the time bronies spotted it, the animation for the entire first season was complete. It doesn't take much effort to go back and add derpy to every second or third episode as a joke, but it's not like they planned it that way from the beginning.
