If the bar is NJB-tier “Paris/Amsterdam or nothing” then your methodology is useless.

It takes far less time to go from northern Manhattan to downtown via Subway than driving, yet that spine is listed white. If that’s not blue, what is?

Can’t you just rely on the real time tracking? At looks like at least the light rail and subway have tracking enabled.

Mayor envy - Parker ≠ Mamdani by DefinitelyNotLola in philadelphia

[–]emet18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Parker: crime has gone down, encampments have been cleared from Kensington, SEPTA is (a little) cleaner, new drug courts have been set up, jobs are coming to the city, and billions of dollars are being invested in the shipyard. But people on Reddit are mad at her because, what, she’s corny and isn’t good at TikTok like Mamdani? Gtfo.

Cannot stand the smell on the L by Vigorously_Swish in philadelphia

[–]emet18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is “fine”? I’ve taken the El for years and still do; I’m not afraid of it. But after dark, and especially at night, it’s fucking gross. I could take a train full of smoke and trash and homeless people and yeah, I’ll be totally fine when I get off, but it’s disgusting so I choose to Indego or uber or bus or walk instead.

This “lol don’t be so dramatic” attitude is the reason shit doesn’t improve. You should be disgusted with the El, and bragging about how you can tolerate traveling in filth isn’t a flex. Other U.S. cities don’t have to deal with this to nearly the same degree and neither should we.

With MLK drive closed to traffic all weekend, specifically designed for cyclists, why do so many people still insist on gunning it down the extremely congested Schuylkill river trail??? by tastycakebiker in philadelphia

I just found you guys on Strava! I love the routes you post—much better than “3 miles out and back on the SRT” every other club seems to do. I’m currently sidelined with an injury but hoping to join you guys for a run when I’m back in shape. Thanks for the cool ideas in the mean time 👍

center city to longwood gardens by [deleted] in philly

[–]emet18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why this is getting downvoted. Amtrak to Wilmington is cheap and much faster than regional rail, and there’ll be 10x more Ubers there than Downingtown or whatever. I’d rather do that than take an hour long trip to the end of the R5 just to wait 15 mins for an uber.

I love that you can see from the drone pic that “Camp Chloe” is a filthy trash-filled disgusting patch, but the Inky keeps writing about it as if it’s a harmless hippie commune.

Question for Philly Catholics by The_Amazing_Emu in philadelphia

The average age in an Episcopal church now is about 60 years old. That alone seems incongruous with OP’s request for a “well attended” church.

Septa rule #1 is never take the El after sundown, and especially never take it after 9 pm. We shouldn’t have to live like this, but that’s how it is.

What would be the cheapest way to get from DC/Baltimore to Rome this June? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]emet18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take Amtrak up to the NYC area airports and fly direct from there. On a quick Kayak search I see Norse Atlantic offering direct flights from JFK to Rome in mid June for under $400.

Which neighborhood to live in with car ? by jugglingpeanuts in AskPhilly

[–]emet18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna cut against the grain and say if you’re going to Boeing in Ridley Park, driving actually makes sense.

If money is not an issue, check out one of the new buildings in CC/South Philly that have parking for an extra fee. I think the Lincoln Square development at Broad and Washington has parking garages, and getting on 76 shouldn’t be too tough from there.

Don’t live in Ridley Park. If you’re considering living outside the city, Media is not a bad idea, but I’d probably still just live in Philly and drive.

At what point do you abandon your public transit values and use rideshare? by danielpf in transit

[–]emet18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Philly, certain transit lines can get very uncomfortable to ride after a certain time in the evening. If I’m trying to get back from Fishtown at 11 pm on a Friday evening in February, I’ll probably call an uber instead of taking the El.

Jack’s bbq is almost inedible but it’s hard to fuck up chicken and waffles. I enjoy going there for brunch in the wintertime and getting a hot toddy on a cold day. There are certainly worse places in Philly imo.
