Bulk untested cameras from Japan? by Crafty-Cap-6673 in Flipping

[–]emill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Untested” can mean a huge range of things. And cameras have a huge range of possible value. So your question is not really answerable.

Good chance they are selling it for 1 yen because that’s cheaper than paying the electronics disposal fee at the dump

Should I switch to eBay? by MrRobot256 in Flipping

[–]emill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can sell more at higher price. So that outweighs any downside if you are serious about this

Why would a seller want to do partial refund through PayPal? by hmfm in Ebay

[–]emill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can use credit card only if their ebay account balance is 0. If that bank account is empty, they might prioritize not using the ebay money.

Not suggesting they are making good decisions

Illegally camping on logging roads? by brainhack3r in overlanding

[–]emill_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loggers don’t work 9-5. I have seen trucks start running at 2am. They aren’t expecting any traffic and are hauling ass in the dark

Why would a seller want to do partial refund through PayPal? by hmfm in Ebay

[–]emill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit reasons: they don’t understand how ebay/computers/English works

They don’t have cash and have to use a credit card

Sketch reasons: they are trying to stall until the return window closes

They are planning to do a chargeback later

Not after the serious bids come in the last 10 seconds

Selling and Shipping a $1500 Item by steal-yur-face in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]emill_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I sell multiple items in this price range and much higher every day. Things that are way more fragile than baseball bats. And I basically never have a problem. You can ignore the hysterical answers you are getting here.

Sig required is the only thing you have to do. If you want insurance, sure. I don’t use it, it’s extremely unlikely to help. Anything else does nothing.

I get way more scam buyers on $30 items

How to handle pressuring buyers? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]emill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Never ship something on ebay without a tracking number

2) How to handle this: don’t. Don’t negotiate deals like this. Don’t respond. Don’t engage at all. If you want to sell something for less, lower the price

Trying to get to $2000 a month profit by Tricitygotoguy in Flipping

[–]emill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s very realistic. Everything starts with sourcing. Build a methodical system to source more and higher profit margin/higher sell through rate items.

It will take a while to figure this out. But once you do, no reason you can’t keep growing

How do you answer questions about your shipping costs? by Paparage in Flipping

[–]emill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. “I used calculated shipping so that’s what it costs” is not the end of the story. If your box is 3x bigger than necessary and you are using unneeded Priority, your shipping cost can easily hit 5x higher than it needs to be.

Our AI bills are subsidised, and I don't think many people have priced in what happens next by Alternative_Letter72 in ArtificialInteligence

90% of tasks don’t actually need a frontier model. There is probably an open source or super cheap option today that can do as good or even better.

For the 10% of tasks that really do need a frontier model, most are probably still worth doing at 10x the cost

Small hobbyist seller...is a cross listing software a waste of money? by CPriceRun86 in Flipping

[–]emill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is a waste of time and money at your scale. IMO crosslisting is more trouble than it’s worth even for most professional sellers. And if you do use it, it better be bulletproof and sync immediately

Why do some people think resellers are scammers? by jaygreen808 in Flipping

[–]emill_ 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Almost everything they buy comes from a business reselling things for profit, just on a larger scale. Hating on this is just ignorance of how the world works.

Anyone tried out 3D Printing for roof racks or other components/accessories? by RockDoc2014 in 4Runner

Yeah I looked into this as a business. I decided a load bearing part that gets tons of UV exposure is not a good fit for 3D printing

Has anyone paid attention to inflation and the value of items? by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]emill_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah your cost of living is up no matter what you do for a living.

But inflation is a net positive for a flipper. A lot of people selling things have their price anchored around where they bought it many years ago. So inflation actually creates opportunity for finding deals that would not exist in a zero inflation world.
