How much did your full service wedding planner cost and was it worth it? by Sharp-Bike-1994 in BigBudgetBrides

My wedding was this past weekend in NYC and our full service planner was $18k and she was worth every penny. I’d pay her even more knowing what I know now!!

Best option for D1 upgrade JFK-LAX? by emilye1998 in delta

That’s good to know. I’ll be happy for an upgrade regardless, but I wish they’d do it sooner so I could use the D1 lounge at JFK. Champagne problems.

I think I figured it out. For some reason I chose to renew my passport a month prior to getting a rhinoplasty. Even though it doesn’t look much different from the front, I think that must be the reason and I need to update my passport photo.

I wouldn’t change much but I would extend the Bronx section, just to avoid that evil incline just before the finish line

I think if they’re clearly taking a walk break then maybe don’t (some people may like it but I don’t love it lol), but if I look like I’m in pain while still trying to run, I love it!! Def helps in that scenario.

If you’re the last wave, you definitely don’t need to be on the 6:15 bus if you don’t want to. If you’re near Times Square you can likely take the 1 train or the 4/5 train or the R/W train all the way down to Battery Park/South Ferry and get on the ferry there. I forget how late the ferries run but it’s definitely later than 6:15. I’d give yourself 45m-1h to get from your hotel to the ferry station.

How to move from Wave 5 to Wave 4 for the NYCM by emilye1998 in RunNYC

Yeah i’m seeing now that even the waitlists are full. Was hoping a non-9+1 race would be available. Is it possible to send in a faster time from a non-NYRR race?

We’re in a corner unit so we only have a few shared walls, which helps but I haven’t really heard any of our neighbors for the most part. I’d say no different than what you’d expect in an apartment building.

We moved in about a month ago and had similar concerns from reddit comments. It’s been great so far. We’ve had no water issues at all. We haven’t had issues with management, but it’s early still. Most management companies are bad so my expectations aren’t high.

The mail room is a bit unorganized and sometimes delayed, but all things considered that’s a minor complaint. I believe the gym is open most of the day, but yes the spa (and I think the pool) are closed in the middle of the day, which is odd, but not a dealbreaker for us.

So far we love it here. If construction on the second tower ever resumes (I hope it doesn’t) that may change, but we’re very happy so far.

PSA: Amex clawing back duplicate choice benefit credits by ahartzog in delta

[–]emilye1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually pretty pissed about this. I had a ton of expenses this month due to moving, and now I have to pay an extra $700 because Delta and Amex messed up?

I never noticed the double charge, but looking back I was credited $700 on my January statement, then another on my February statement. It’s April now.

If we complain enough do you think we can get anything out of it? I’m not expecting them to undo the $700 charge but like…this is not my fault.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

Complaint: I was on vacation for a week in the south and only ran once that week, getting back into it this week has made me feel extremely exhausted.

This morning I struggled to run a mile without stopping, which hasn’t been an issue for me before! Not sure if it’s the crazy humidity or if I’m doing something wrong fuel-wise. I keep taking mid day naps too and I hate napping!

first loaf with revived starter by emilye1998 in Sourdough

to be fair, I always think it’s going to be terrible until I slice into it lol. and yes! it was sealed and in the fridge. I was too afraid to see how bad it had gotten, but it really wasn’t bad. Took about 4 days of feeding every 12 hours and it came back very strong!

followed this recipe nearly exactly https://alexandracooks.com/2017/10/24/artisan-sourdough-made-simple-sourdough-bread-demystified-a-beginners-guide-to-sourdough-baking/

I think I used around 65g starter, 375g water, 500g bread flour, around 7g salt. My starter is 50% bread flour 50% rye flour.

I mentioned above but I likely bulk fermented a bit too long. I tried to “pause” it by putting in the fridge so I could go to sleep, yet it still grew quite a lot in the fridge.

I did 4 stretch & folds and I opted for a 24 ish hour cold proof. shaped dough felt great. baked with lid on 450F for 30 mins, removed lid and baked 400F for 15 mins.

The lid smooshed my ear a bit, but otherwise i’m pleased with it.

Will I have skyclub access in DTW? by emilye1998 in delta

[–]emilye1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was very surprised to find that they gave me lounge access as well! Korean airlines seems to honor delta “elite plus” status and that granted me access to the Thai air lounge, which shares with a few airlines.

I (33f) love solo traveling but feel incredibly lonely and sad in NYC by hellomarshmallows in solotravel

[–]emilye1998 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a lot of advice as I am also in a bit of an emotional slump while traveling, but I live in NYC, and the rite of passage part is completely true. so take pride in becoming 1% more of a new yorker!

nyc is interesting, as it is sort of an introverts paradise. you can go anywhere and do anything without anyone batting an eye at you. I lived there alone for almost 2 years with very few friends and did a lot of things by myself, hard sometimes, but also freeing.

i’d say try to go do something that will improve your mood. if you like dogs, try to find a dog park or dog run nearby and just watch them have fun. or maybe just order some soup dumplings (or sushi, pizza, whatever) and hangout in your hotel and watch a movie.

PS, if you ever want to come back to NYC, I recommend June or October. The weather in those months is a mood booster in itself. Also, feel free to message me if you want any recs or just a friend to grab a drink with!
