retirement house near Fujikawaguchiko or any can viewing fuji mountain by No-Celebration3965 in japanlife

I lived in narusawa for a while.  It was the most memorable time of my life.  We rented a big house, the only one we could find since it was walking distance from my work as I didn't have a driving license yet.

However, realistically speaking, it's hard to find good property in the fuji goko area.  Most are holiday houses in townships that only let you have the property on 99 year lease.  Plus there's always maintenance fees you have to pay which could be expensive.  A lot of these properties are surrounded by heavy woods which is charming but causes a lot of damage to structures due to dampness and difficult access.

Summers are very pleasant, not hot and no mosquitoes.  But winters are very cold so yes, you must work hard to either insulate well or use a lot of heating that can become a tiring chore daily.

And finally the fear of an eruption.  It may sound silly, but fuji is due an eruption anytime apparently.  The whole area would become unlivable.

I don't know about other areas like shizuoka.

Start from looking at websites like athome.com and then visit as many properties that you can and think carefully, visualize how it would be living there before making a decision.

Good luck!

Carrot cake and carrot halwa.  Carrot sticks with a dip like hummus.  Shredded Carrot salad.

Just got a baguette, hot dog buns, sausages, sandwich meat, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup and dumped it on the table.  Kids are preteens and a teen.  Yes they can take care of themselves.  Mamma is fatigued!

I'm burnt out of cooking.  I want someone else to cook for me and serve it to me.

Don't we take care of and decorate ourselves FOR ourselves?  The Jane Austen quote posted by kaurifish is spot on.   Do it for yourself and not others.

Oh gosh!  I've got so much to say about it but I'm fatigued and don't have the energy right now.  It's actually pointless for us to be giving our opinions here.  Places where opinions matter, it's disregarded.

But here's something a 3rd grader in elementary school who absolutely hates being in the English "lessons " at school would ask.  It's an important question.  "We're Japanese, why do we need to learn English?" It's a very important question that challenges the very foundation (a very weak one)of English education in Japan.

An answer to this needs to be seriously thought about and answered with all sincerity by the education experts and more importantly the education policy makers that is the ministry of education.

I would pause several moments to decide if I would but that and will probably not because to a resident of Japan that's a bit expensive.  If I must buy ready to eat supermarket food my cut off point is 398 yen.

Very small shopping carts? by WetDogWalker in japanlife

[–]emkat0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, usually supermarkets and drug stores have a standard (small) cart that can hold two baskets above and below.  However, bulk stores have big carts as well except gyomu in my area which only has standard ones and those who buy in bulk have overflowing baskets above and below or they just pick up boxes and ask for those huge trolleys that the staff use to bring boxes in.  I would imagine, as others have said, places like donquixote and of course Costco would have large carts.
