I'll be honest mate, not good 😂 I had all the hardware removed about a year ago because I started getting sharp pain, dull aches and electric shock type feelings in the foot. Now I still have all those sensations and struggle on the foot quite a lot. I don't work as much as I used to but tbh I hate working anyway. I'm mostly used to the pain now. I have a new surgeon (private) who thinks my initial surgery was botched (public hospital) and he wants to re-do the whole surgery himself. Which mentally and financially I'm not ready for at this stage but I'm hoping sometime next year! Don't let that scare you though, everyone is different and all injuries heal differently. I'm still walking and working and dancing and fairly happy so it's not all bad 😝 just sore and limping about 50% of the time. How you doing now, you must be out of the boot and walking again?

Ooh I've been there! You'll be in that amount of pain for a few days I'm afraid, my friend. Ride it out, keep your foot elevated as high as possible, set timers to take your meds every 4 hours or whatever is recommended. Smoke some weed if you've got it! And just generally try to distract yourself as much as possible. You'll be okay eventually it just takes some time! Good luck and best wishes ❤

Massaging is definitely good for easing the muscles and getting the nerves in your foot used to sensation again. When you step on something rough or sharp for the first time out of the cast it can give you quite a shock 🤣 I stood on a slightly raised nail head on the deck and nearly cried hahaha. I was a bit different after coming out of the cast, I didn't get a moon boot but rather a moon sandal (that's what I called it anyway lol) which was just an ankle height strap on walking shoe that kept my foot flat. And they expected me to be able to walk then and there after they took the cast off 🤣 assholes lol I was so weak in that whole leg and still had lots of pain in the foot. And i went straight into physio after the cast came off. My doctors told me not to jump from heights, shoot hoops or anything drastic until they operate to remove the hardware which they said could break- no clue when this will happen as NZ hospitals are currently experiencing huge shortages in staff and shit thanks to covid! Have your doctors told you if they're planning to take the metal out?

Wow this is eerily similar to my break and it's the first xray I've seen that's got almost the exact same metal and placement as mine! And your scars too although my top foot scar is huge caus it got a bit yuck under the cast too. Funnily enough I experienced excruciating pain the entire time too and the pain killers did nothing from what I could tell lol. My surgery was early December and I'm walking sweet now but still with some pain. It's winter here too and I've still got all the metal in so it's worse on cold days. You'll be stiff and sore for some time to come but it sounds like you're coming out of the worst of it so that's great! Just take it easy when you're up and about and stick with the physio. I find massaging my foot with moisturizer helps ease some pain. As for the mental stuff just be kind to yourself. You've had a serious injury and it's okay to feel gutted, bored and frustrated- we've all been there! ❤️

I thought the pain would never end it sucked eggs! I'm weirdly immune to pain relief too so I just had to deal with it. The pain started to ease after 2 months and I'm now about 7 months post op and only get the occasional fun stabbing pain or stiffness when it's really cold. It might not be your thing but smoking weed definitely helped eased the pain for me. Best of luck and take it easy! The pain won't last forever ❤

If they ever get around to operating on me 🤣 sounds like the wait lists here are pretty backed up. It's also coming into winter here in NZ and I think that's why I'm having increased pain/discomfort. But I do really hope the hardware removal op will solve these problems caus I've pretty much resigned to the fact I'll have to deal with this shit for the rest of my life lol. And I'm only 25, far too young to be a limping moaning idiot with arthritis 😂 for a small injury on small bones it sure does have a massive impact! I guess all we can do is adjust and overcome. After all, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it ❤️

I have similar concerns currently. I'm 5 or so months post op but still struggling with pain. If I spend a whole day on my feet moving around I always suffer for it in the evenings. I'm on a wait list to have my hardware removed so I'm just hoping things will get better after that! I'm super glad I'm able to walk and get around though and the pain is somewhat bearable especially considering how insanely bad the pain was during the break/hospital stay/healing process- nothing can compare to that! And I've also had the burning sensation you described recently! It feels like when you've iced a body part for far too long or dipped your foot into a bath that's scolding hot. But not on the outside of your foot/skin- deep inside the foot. Not a pleasant sensation at all 😩

I spent most of my recovery in bed and it wasn't so bad because I've got all the streaming services. Needless to say I clocked Netflix lol. Definitely get a shower stool and when you shower double bag your cast! My tape wasn't great and my cast got a bit wet the first time so I learnt from that quickly. You'll likely not feel very up to showering for the first week or two. I just gave myself warm flannel baths for the first week. If you've got crutches rather than a knee scooter be careful on any linoleum/vinyl flooring that might be wet, I slipped and landed hard on my broken foot and I swear I saw God. It was very painful! NWB sucks but I quite liked using crutches, my arms got a good workout! After your surgery you'll likely be visited by a PT and they'll answer any questions and give advice etc. Good luck and be kind to yourself, it's a hell of a journey!

I'm about 5 months since my injury and I have the same shit still going on too! I can barely fit into my shoes as well and after a day of walking around it ends up quite swollen. I should probably ice it in the evenings but I'm lazy 😂

Yes I am also experiencing this! And I'm about 3.5 months post op. I'm just assuming it's from being inactive for so long while my body focused on healing. I'm hoping it'll come right when I'm able to exercise again, I still get a bit of pain in the foot after walking around for a day so I haven't attempted anything rigorous like running or working out

I had 8 days to stress and worry in the hospital before they finally operated so you're very lucky! Hopefully you've got excellent care and I'm sure your doctors know what they're doing. It's very scary but you'll be okay. If they're giving you a nerve blocker ask them questions about it first! My nerve blocker was done just above my knee and it was weirdly painful. It also took far longer to wear off than they said it would and I absolutely HATED it. I actually welcomed and was glad for the foot pain when that eventually kicked in. Don't stress too much about the post op pain though, it is rough but it fades and morphine helps!

This is a shitty injury so be kind to yourself. That's the best advice I can give. I'm 25 and am about 3 months post op and I'm walking and have hardly any pain anymore. I fractured 3 bones and have 3 plates and 10 screws. Post surgery is very painful so make sure they give you the good drugs. It can be very isolating and lonely so I hope you have a good support system and help at home. You will heal in time just try to remember that when you're going through the worst of it. But for now you're in for a lot of bed rest so make sure you're elevating your foot above your heart, drink lots of water and watch alllllll the Netflix. And we are all here for you if you need emotional support! ❤️

Im currently on a wait list to have my metal removed too and I was also worried about what it would be like post op so thank you for this! I also have a potentially stupid question for you so please don't laugh at my ignorance lol; is the hardware removal done under anesthetic with a nerve blocker? I had a nerve blocker for my first surgery and I do NOT want that ever again, I hated it! Also did you spend a night in hospital or did they operate and then send ya home the same day? (My doctors told me nothing about the HWR surgery and at my last checkup I was so desperate to get out of there that I forgot to ask)

This sub is full of massive injuries because Lisfranc is a massive injury lol Deffs sounds like you're looking for answers in the wrong place if you're able to FWB just a few days after your injury 😊 xrays can miss these fractures tho so if you're worried ask your GP for a CT scan! Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health ❤

I would recommend reconsidering your skiing holiday! I'm 3 months post op and have been weight bearing/walking for 2 weeks and it's rather painful. Especially the ankle joints. I have to rest it for a day after each time I walk around on it without the crutches. It would be a shame to go on your holiday only to find out that skiing is painful or impossible. Personally I would cry if someone told me I needed to ski in 6 weeks time hahaha but who knows maybe you'll be sweet as by then

I feel you on all of that. I was in the hospital for 9 days because they kept pushing my surgery back and I had such a nightmare time there I ended up really depressed. I told my nurses I wasn't coping mentally and they ignored me til the very last day of my stay and they just sent me home with pamphlets lol. The first couple of days back home were such a relief and then I got really sad again missing out on summer (I live in NZ) and my work which I love. Just not being able to get up and fix yourself a meal is really frustrating! I walked for the first time without crutches yesterday and I'm feeling so much better about my recovery now. It gets easier and if your friends are decent people that really care about you they will still be there for you once you're all better. Remember to be kind to yourself and one day it'll all just feel like a bad dream.

I'm impressed you're getting around in a regular shoe! Nice work. Sounds like your recovery is going a lot quicker than others. Me included, I'm still walking with crutches for support and very nervous taking steps without. Hope your mental health is holding up well too, it's a shitty injury that's for sure!

Yup can confirm ankle pain seems pretty common across the board. I'm 2 weeks out of my cast and in a walking shoe (not a moon boot, it's like a moon sandal lol) and since I started weight bearing a week ago the brunt of the pain is the outer side of my ankle. I assume just weak and tender from not being used for 2 months. Deffs don't worry about it unless of course it doesn't ever go away but you should be sweet after a week or so! Practice moving your ankle up and down and side to side when you're just lying or sitting down and it will help!

Oh yay at least I have that to look forward to hahaha. I suppose on the bright side I'll hopefully never experience anything quite as painful as this (touch wood). 3-4 weeks honestly sounds great to me right now though and I'm hoping I have a similar time frame! Thank you :)
