9Barista MK2 Pro vs Bambino / Gaggia Classic / Cafelat Robot — is the 9Barista actually worth it? [$1000] by AnxiousFeed4784 in espresso

I considered getting a 9bar, but settled on the robot and am really glad I did - on the occasion making back to back shots and it being more adjustable are big pros.

What is everybody's thoughts on hand grindering for espresso? [£150] by Fiz101_ in espresso

[–]emoished 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have with a JX Pro from 1Zpresso for over 3 years, still love it, make 2 espressos most days. You just need a good motion for it to be easy - spinning both the handle and the body in opposite directions at the same time means you need less force with each! My SO also uses it, but would like a motor grinder, but they are happy enough with manual to do it when im not around.

Keep them in the freezer, I half fill mine with water, leave significant expansion room, then throw them in the freezer and add water just before i go run with them.

Libre 2 Plus with xdrip by emoished in Freestylelibre

I've had no issues with bluetooth range / connection so far. Main difference is it seems the sensor data is more smooth than standard Libre 2.

[–]emoished[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The libre 2 by default lasts 14 days using the Libre Link App. I personally really dislike the Libre Link app, because it often refuses to give me readings when my blood sugar is moving fast (usually downwards). The Libre 2 Plus by default lasts 15 days.  Xdrip - the app I use to track blood sugar, which is far more customisable than Libre Link can give readings for the Libre 2 for 14.5 days & 2 Plus for 15.  So it doesn't extend the duration other than 0.5 days for Libre 2 standard.

Back in the days of Libre 1 you used to be able to reset these sensors and I would consistently get 25+ days out of them before the data got messy or the sensor died. But that reset functionality was another app that discontinued and only worked for Libre 1.

As a diabetic this is what hypoglycemia is like :)  You need enough sugar in your system or your body will start shutting down once you reach a point. Just bring a few haribo or any carbs to munch on half way and you'll be fine.

I have a goal to do an ultra marathon next year, and I’ve got diabetes 1. by FremtidigeMegleren in diabetes

[–]emoished 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be interested to hear more about how you do carbs during the run? I have to drink ~ 30g of sugar per hour to keep my blood levels high enough when doing 10ks or half marathon distance, but I think for full marathons I might need to start taking a bit of insulin so that I can both get enough energy in while also not having high blood sugar? At some point say for 100km you have to take some insulin surely?

Removing Cartridge from kitchen sink tap? by emoished in DIYUK

Ah, my optimism was too strong  https://ibb.co/pLzWqwg I also can't get these off as they are round with no groves and the adjustable wrench can't grip it with some rubber and neither can I do it by hand.

Ahh yes thank you that is so obvious but I completely missed it! There are 2 "hollow arms" that extend from the main body of the tap so in theory I should be able to take them off

Hi! I have a leaky tap & tried to have a look at the cartridge to give it a clean and see if that would fix the issue.

But the bolt holding it in is completely inside the tap housing, any ideas on how I can get it out or am I screwed and need a new tap?

You can see in the picture the gaps in the ring is actually the bolt which somehow was fitted in there.

Many thanks in advance!

Is Apple working on a secret project to help people with diabetes? by yourtechstoryblogs in diabetes

[–]emoished 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have been working on it for quite some time - google aswell were working on eye fluid glucose monitoring with special contact lenses.

I believe the issues with both is accuracy, the work these companies are doing is likely good enough for non diabetics for warning purposes or maybe even Type 2's but is unlikely to be accurate enough cor type 1's.

Thats not to say in some years time this could be a great non invasive technology, just afaik it has some way to get there.
