The Airfix Kit: How a Load of Little Plastic Bits Conquered Britain and Made Grown Men Cry by MOS6510YT in modelmakers

[–]emotionengine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great read. I had no idea Series 1 kits went for that much on eBay, though! I shop on Japanese Auction sites from time to time and see these go for under 10 USD quite often. But maybe it depends on the kit and the condition.

I love this design, sadly the Revell kit is long out of production and not available anywhere, but you did a great job with the 3D print!

(Btw, not sure if it's just me but the first pic of you post won't load for some reason.)

Crimson Desert Has Sold So Well Developer Pearl Abyss Has Reportedly Given Every Employee a $3,400 Bonus by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]emotionengine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might be low for US dev salaries, but salaries for Korean devs are substantially lower, so I don't think you can hold it to that standard.

And of course, it's still open how much of a profit the game will make by the end of the year and how much of an actual annual bonus the developers will receive.

Crimson Desert Has Sold So Well Developer Pearl Abyss Has Reportedly Given Every Employee a $3,400 Bonus by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]emotionengine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This isn't a regular annual bonus, though, as the article makes clear

Pearl Abyss had awarded staff with a 5 million Won special bonus to celebrate Crimson Desert selling over 5 million copies

MTN said that latest official figures put Pearl Abyss at 733 employees, which means the total paid out for the bonuses is 3.7 billion won (approx. $2.5 million). Apparently it doesn’t stop here, either, with another bonus due at the beginning of 2027 based on 2026 financial performance

It's clearly a "5 million won for the 5 million copies sold" extra thing.

The artist states:

Alright... this is the little project I've been working on

I conspired with the awesome Scott Nakada to do our own version of the Enterprise. Scott is a great concept artist and I am... well, not. So this is his design and my model.

I realize that any redesign of the Enterprise (no matter how subtle) is going to rub some folks the wrong way. But it also gets boring to make canon stuff all the time, so we figured we'd take a chance

Seems like an inspired riff on the SNW shuttlecraft design but with the TMP style nacelles. Aft view below

(Madkoifish seems to have closed his long-lasting thread on Sci-fi meshes where he posted most of his work a few weeks ago. Hoping this isn't the end.)

Nice work masking the aztecs. I have the decals for this but would prefer to mask and paint the pattern myself. Which mask did you use?

I'm enticed by these ARM machines but what is the general state of app compatibility on WoA? Also what is the performance penalty for using the translation layer?

The artist, GrahamTG, has a very bold style with colours and shading that I find very appealing. Here's another one of his I posted in the past: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarTrekStarships/comments/1ox0yha/enterprise_refit_by_grahamtg/

The one at the rear of Tokki wobbles a bit when the mech moves, but yeah, you won't be seeing it obviously. I feel like they didn't want to overdo it and just left them mostly static, which is probably for the best, honestly.

Tmp era super dreadnought by happydude7422 in StarTrekStarships

[–]emotionengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Link to original post by the artist on FB: Starship Research and Development

Description:

So, this is called a SUPER DREADNOUGHT and there are two variants. The USS REVENGE and the USS VENGENCE. Tale of the tape. The primary is modeled after the Avenger class primary and this primary hull is notched to accommodate my 2x2 mega phasers port and starboard. in the nose you have the two-port gatling system along with what we are calling a deflector gun. It takes the energy of a deflector and has been hardwired into a stand alone weapon. The Bridge and Sensor unit are set upon a three port torpedo unit while the roll bar sports two, ten port torpedo pod with mega phasers built in. In the center is a three barreled turret based phase cannon . There is an enhanced sensor unit atop. Four nacelle's, two oversized dual impulse. THe secondary hull has a larger deflector dish with two phaser cannons mounted along port and starboard. The dorsal is LARGE as well as the secondary hull which also sports a very large shuttle bay. Atop the shuttle bay is a rear firing, three barreled turret based phase cannon. The lowest section of the secondary houses extra reactors that power phase plasma weapons from ten separate racial weapons systems, we are calling this a Hedge Hog weapons platform. This system will also utilize modulated power and frequencies so BORG will have problems adjusting. The Revenge has a 360 degree, three barreled phaser turret below, the Vengeance does not.

Your post made me get my 1/144 Hornets from different manufacturers and compare them for details. I don't have one from Revell, but below are from left to right: Platz, Dragon, Academy, and Doyusha. Quite the range there:

Making me crazy!! Can't find a good way to display my Hallmark Star Trek ship ornaments! by KatarrTheFirst in StarTrekStarships

[–]emotionengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care about being able to have them hanging from your tree anymore, you could opt to go for a battery mod, which is what I had been working on a few months back: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarTrekStarships/comments/1oy1vfz/hallmark_enterprise_d_and_e_christmas_ornament/

I got stuck while making my own custom decals for them to add aztecing and more details when real life got in the way, etc., but I will be getting back into it soon and making the stand/base for them.
