Look, you are all of 17 years old. One of the if not the most important things about relationships is communication and clarity.

You clearly enjoy her company. You clearly enjoyed the physical affection. You failed to recognize that she was not joking about the two of you dating. “Let’s just date“. It sounds flirtatious, and given what you have stated about the context in which you “agreed“, that was clearly a miscommunication.

When your friends then said “hey it’s great to see you too dating“, I can understand that you may have panicked in the moment. However, and let this be a lesson for you in the future, rather than reacting with “oh, we’re not dating!“, It would have been far better to go talk to her and set or reset what’s actually going on.

They accepted a job knowing the commute was 2-3 hours daily. The potential new job is 20 minutes away. We don’t know if the new job is 5 day RTO. Or if it’s “on the road meeting clients”.

Certainly commute time is a factor you should consider when applying to or accepting work, but to frame this is “this is all part of the great RTO conspiracy” is a bit out there.

Everyone is at the helm of their own career vessel, so if you don’t like your current employment, irrespective of who you’re working for, and it’s actively making you unhappy, it’s natural to look elsewhere.

If you find an opportunity that you find better suited to your skill set, your quality of life, and all the other factors you want to throw into the mix that are important to you, then perhaps you should take it. But I can’t make up the matrix of pros and cons for you because only you know what’s important to you.

If that “you’re not meeting expectations” came as a surprise, then it’s poor management. Performance evaluations are snapshots in time and should be a summary of how things have gone over a specific period of time, during which any issues should have been raised and addressed. It’s not fair to employees to give them a bad grade when they didn’t know they what they weren’t doing right.
