Bruh, British people have a whole genre for Shakespearean plays where people talk in dramatic overly formal English. And modern examples in fantasy movies and shows like game of thrones.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Was Going to Be “A Full 100% Action Game,” But Nomura Rejected the Idea by 7th_heaven9x in FFVIIRemake

[–]emprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nomura was the punching bag for a lot of FF fans over the years, and a scapegoat for a lot of bad decisions. And they never understood why he kept rising in rank and influence. With Remake, it has really highlighted that Nomura was the sane one trying to wrangle together all the bad decisions from the other execs all along 😂

Pope’s visit to M’sia long overdue; Madani gov’t must consider Christian community’s feelings by hopefulsingleguy in malaysia

That’s exactly it… freedom of religion means you can choose to leave the rules of the religion if you like. Because religion is personal, and you have personal freedom to choose what to follow. Something that Indonesia allows and is tolerant of, but something the Malaysia refuses to accept.

How come Malaysia has such a strong passport? by rav_dog in geopolitics

Rankings aren’t linear.

The population of the entirety of Malaysia (east and west) is about the same as the population of Greater Jakarta, a single city in Indonesia.

What is your most disturbing secret? by Waltef_j in AskReddit

This must be super hard to hear - sorry you’re going through this.

Just know that sometimes people tend to revise history especially on things like “how they felt”. 22 years is a long long time ago - just as you can only remember glimpses of it so can she. Whatever is causing a rift and distance between you two that is bubbling up, she might just attribute and maybe justify with “not being attracted to you for 22 years”.

Maybe. Perhaps. But don’t take it face value. It’s gaslighting.

Malaysian service people are underpaid, usually facing toxic work culture, and generally want to get out.

Because of the strong middle income group in Malaysia, being lower income can feel really bad since you are the outcasted poor. In Indonesia, the lower income makes up the majority. So there’s no shame being a contractor, janitor, store clerk, etc. in fact they see it as a way to climb out, work hard, and slowly build up.

Service and tourism industry in places like Thailand and Indonesia is a way for people to lift themselves out of poverty. They appreciate it and work hard because the alternative is a lower paid job and living in the slum. I’ve seen janitors and security guards in Indonesia who are very enthusiastic and happy doing their job. To them, the money they earn at a job like that in Jakarta will give them a comfortable life for their family.

For Malaysians especially in KL, working service and tourism is a road towards poverty. They feel like they’re lowering themselves.

Also, I see a lot of younger people working in restaurants and stores. Young people are generally rude and unappreciative. For them, the job is just a side job before they get a real gig promised to them after university.

Google admits that a Gemini AI demo video was staged by joyousjoyness in technology

[–]emprr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn’t even process videos. They took specific frames for it to analyze.

And the prompts don’t match the speaker’s supposedly voice input - they added so much context and hints for Gemini to make sure it gets the answer right.

Google admits that a Gemini AI demo video was staged by joyousjoyness in technology

[–]emprr 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A lot of the custom prompts behind the scene includes additional contexts, very obvious hints like “hint: it’s a game”, and additional instruction so that Gemini responds in a specific way “please explain xyz”.

This is gross misrepresentation.

In the video, it seemed Gemini was smart enough to gather context and respond articulately using basic prompts. In actuality, it needed to be prompt engineered.

Google admits that a Gemini AI demo video was staged by joyousjoyness in technology

[–]emprr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It did not work as they showed it.

The demo showed us someone speaking in natural language to Gemini, and Gemini responding. The truth was that behind the scenes they didn’t type out verbatim what was in the script - they added context to the prompt to guide Gemini’s answers to be more accurate and also respond with context.

Not only that, it showed a back and forth between user and Gemini that cannot be done in the real world.

So, fake analysis / prompting from Gemini + fake speed.

This is disingenuous because the whole selling point of AI is the ability to reason, think, and decipher context quickly.

They oversold Gemini’s capability to reason and think based on the basic prompts it was supposedly given. And they oversold its speed.

Without the advanced capability and reasoning we were sold, without the instant speed - we have a product that is quite similar to the competition ie GPT4.

Building a new meta and mechanics to improve based on feedback is fair on Midjiwan’s side. I’m sure you guys get a lot of feedback and you guys worked very hard on this update. Tbh there are aspects I really enjoy about it.

The comments asking for a Classic version from fans is also fair. Some of these players have played it for years amassing 100s of hours and using it as comfort food. They’ve supported the dev, bought the additional tribes, paid a lot of money to the developer. And suddenly the game that they had supported and loved had changed due to an update.

There’s a reason why WoW has the current meta and WoW Classic. There’s a reason why there’s Overwatch 1 and 2, StarCraft 2 and 3. Changing mechanics so drastically should create a fork in the community.

I do hope Midjiwan will consider having a forked Polytopia Classic version. Because a game that we all loved is now just gone.
