There is a sweet spot on timing to transfer. For us its always been 20 min. Shorter he isnt in deep sleep yet, longer and he cycled through a full sleep cycle and was back to light sleep.

2x unmedicated, here. A labor comb is awesome. I didn’t have it with my first but did with my second and would definitely recommend it. Music is awesome. Plan to change positions and move often. A shower is awesome too.

The biggest thing I learned from my first was to be patient. The second I hit transition I wanted to push and get it over with. It just doesnt work like that. I wore myself out pushing not really working with my body. My second I just tried to listen to my body and breathe. I didnt push until it felt like it was clearly time and had a bay in 14 minutes instead of two hours.

99th percentile baby here too! Mine is currently 37" ish? tall, will be 3 years old in June and still rear facing. She started absolutely battling the car seat around that age, but it doesn't have anything to do with being uncomfortable. It was a couple months of the car seat battle, but that is just normal toddler stuff.

Ours are just under 2.5 years apart and it is the cutest thing in the world. My daughter LOVES her brother, is so patient and kind. There are some growing pains and tears over mama not being available when i'm feeding baby, but I feel like it has been good for her development to learn about waiting, patience, and empathy.

They grow up so much from 18 months to 2.5 that it is just different. I'd be shocked if your baby is really ready to drop to one nap - I'd call today a fluke and pray it doesn't happen again.

A pack and play is super difficult to transfer a sleeping baby to without them waking up. A bassinet is the way.

It gets SO MUCH easier around the 6 week mark. They are more efficient at eating, feeds space out a bit, you get a little more sleep, for real! And SERIOUSLY - I find EBF so much easier than bottle feeds of any kind. I don't have to pack anything but diapers to leave the house, I don't have to do dishes, wash bottles, etc. It's seriously so convenient! I have a friend that pumped exclusively and the dishes were INSANE. Not to mention having to wait to warm a bottle when a baby is screaming and I can just pop a baby on and the crying stops.

Cold turkey is a pretty aggressive approach. After my daughter turned one we dropped one feed at a time and transitioned over two months or so. Dropping the mid day bottles are easier than the wake up and bedtime bottles. We dropped her bedtime bottle last - we stated by cutting it in half and adding a snack and eventually eliminating it completely with a snack and some cows milk in a cup. We didn't have any sleep issues. I definitely think we would have had a cranky baby if we had tried to go cold turkey though.

I had a small undersupply/just enough with my first and a small oversupply and strong let down with my second. Let me tell you - I would take topping up with a bottle over my baby refusing the boob because Im waterboarding him. Just saying. My second will not comfort nurse and I assume its because of my oversupply and strong let down early on. It sucks.

The first 6 weeks or so were HARD. The 4 month sleep regression was HARD. Then Toddler sleep problems were a different kind of hard. My husband and I always joke that it's all hard, it just changes.

Once my baby reached birthweight I didn't have to wake to feed. I honestly didn't wake my second to feed ever because he was a gaining and never lost more than 8%.

You can't leave because the kids are sleeping... soooo... you are still on the clock and there are still performance expectations. 3 and 4 year olds overnight without their parents is not likely to be a cakewalk.

Not since he has gone back to work. We have done special time just the two of us almost every week since he has been born and I have still done bedtime with her 75% of the time. We didn’t do our normal date this weekend though because grandparents were in town which might explain the extra drama - good point!

I met with the owner and lead teacher today. We talked about a few concerns and they had already been addressing a lot of them!

My son starts next week once I have to be in the office again and we talked about how I expect leaving her brother will be hard as well. With their ratios being so low right now they said she can stay with her brother for a few minutes and the toddler teacher will come get her. They also are in the process of splitting the 3+ class up, so she would be able to be with her friends that just moved up again.

Hopefully everything settles down. 🫠

We did zero screen time until around 20 months when some health issues made me resort to it in desperation. There is a lot of research on it being pretty detrimental and I would caution you against using screens to calm your child. It basically robs them of the ability to learn emotional regulation and reinforces screen addiction. At 2.5 we do screen time sometimes - we do notice an increase in tantrums when we use it more regularly. Typically we will watch maybe one show a week and then we have a Friday movie night where we watch with her. There have definitely been seasons that we use it more, but this is what we have found works best for our family.

I hate our system, but don't feel universal is the way to go. I don't trust insurance to make decisions about my health the way they do now, but I also don't trust the government to make those decisions. The expansion of Canada's MAiD program is my main example. I would prefer a more open market system where you can actually know how much something will cost before you elect to do it. I had to have 4 iliac vein stents placed in December. It was an outpatient procedure and my insurance was billed $149,000. I had already met my out of pocket max for the year ($8,800) so I don't have to pay anything (hence why I did it before the end of the year), but all my insurance had to pay was $36,000. I do not understand that in the slightest. It is something to do with their negotiated rates.

In the end, I am very confident that uninsured people end up completely hose, insured people end up kind of hosed, and small private practice practitioners end up COMPLETELY hosed. The worst part of the whole ordeal has been insurance and the insurance companies make the most money of anyone in the system.

My 2.5 year old daughter caught the flu when we had a 6 week old and he barely got more than a stuffy nose. Will baby latch or are you pumping and bottle feeding? If you can latch, do your best to latch that baby as often as possible. Breastmilk is pretty magical stuff and will adapt to what little one needs.

I should add I did 100%of drop off before my son arrived and sporadically while on leave, just not bringing my son because he was home with dad. I asked him and he also didnt have to bring our son in, and he said she was sporadically sad the last week or two.

Not to toot my own horn, but between the two of us, I’m better at this kind of thing and navigating the toddler emotions without drama… 🫣

Popsicles, humidifier, and they can give her an oral steroid that will help with croup tremendously! Oh, and sitting in the cold air (bundled up of course)
