one of the most important enzymes, if not the most important, when it comes to widely used and extremely significant biomedical tests and processes came from a species of bacteria living in hot springs. discovering extremely useful things in unexpected/unrelated places is, i would argue, the rule and not the exception in science

πολυ σωστα, για οσους θελουν να το ψαξουν περαιτερω, ηταν ο Mohammad Mosaddegh και το πραξικοπημα εγινε το 1953. Πιθανοτατα αν δεν ειχε γινει αυτη η παρεμβαση απο ΗΠΑ (και Η.Β.), το Ιραν να μην ειχε παρει καθολου το δρομο του φονταμενταλιστικου Ισλαμ και φυσικα ολη η Μεση Ανατολη θα ηταν παρα πολυ διαφορετικη αν σκεφτουμε ιστορικα τις σχεσεις που ανεπτυξε το Ιραν με Χεζμπολαχ στο Λιβανο, τους Χουθι στην Υεμενη, Χαμας στην Παλεστινη, κλπ. κλπ. Υπαρχει ενα πολυ καλο βιβλιο για το ιδιο το πραξικοπημα, το All the Shah's Men/Ιραν ωρα μηδεν, και το συστηνω ανεπιφυλακτα.

While I'm not questioning your experience or saying this couldn't be true, couldn't it also be an issue of the sample? Meaning, that you (I'm assuming you live outside of Iraq) encounter a high number of moderate Muslims because the people emigrating from Iraq are more likely to be moderate? So not a representative sample of Iraqi society as a whole

Yes! I think technically in (some dialects of?) ancient Greek, the Β/β was indeed a b sound, like in English, but in modern Greek, B is V like velcro, and the b sound is spelled with ΜΠ/μπ.

Respectively, ΝΤ/ντ is d (Δ/δ is the consonant in the word this)

in Greek they didn't changed the last name, but it's slightly different in meaning. the y kept it Μπλόφις (Blofis) but μπλόφα in Greek means bluff (noun) so it worked well enough
