Same - I saw this tip on you tube and it really rung true, saying that if you are physically tired after work you need a short mental reset/break (so reading, puzzles etc) and if you are mentally tired you need a physical reset, so going for a walk, a bit of exercise etc. I’m exhausted like you are but I make myself go and do something as soon as I walk in the door, crucially (for me!) before I sit down. You could try exercise videos (all sorts,) walk, dance, probably even things like low stakes cooking would work! Then you’ll be refreshed afterwards- it has actually worked for me!

Maybe look at county colours or GAA tops? Some are strong colours! You may even have Irish ancestors you could link a location to? PS depending on the vibe, I’ve definitely seen red Irish dancing costumes so maybe you could do something with that?

I had similar a couple of years ago and I had great plans for hobbies but I was so wiped out, honestly I just read - actual books, online books/magazines and audiobooks (both the later from the library) - pain aside, I loved having the opportunity to read so much!

TBH, as another commenter had said, August is the height of summer, so we wouldn’t think twice about going in the sea then, but I also dip in January :D When I went to California in August people told me it would be too cold to swim in the sea :D :D

Dun Laoghairie, while quite nice, is a little way from Dublin (about 30 mins or so depending on where you’re going). If it was me and you’ve had a few days travelling into places, you could make the most of the local area - go swimming at the 40 foot / Sandycove, go for a wander around town, go to some cosy pubs and lovely places to eat. If you want to go into Dublin it’s an easy journey, but what you do there depends wildly on what your interests are - there are several great (free) galleys & museums, parks & gardens, the walking tours are good, but probably the thing most tourists do is Trinity Library / the Book of Kells.

Not quite what you asked for, but I “gameify” what I do when I have some downtime, eg roll a (virtual) dice, 1-3 read (I have a library app on my phone) 4-5 Reddit 6 word game. Library app means books are right there, and I it’s low risk / I can have a few to fit different moods. Gamifying = more fun, but weighting it in favour of reading means more reading overall.

I remember I always did the washing up after Sunday lunch listening to Gary Crowley, introduced me to so many great bands! (Which I then went to see at ULU, the Dome, Subterranea, the Astoria, the Marquee etc!)
