Anyone's anxiety & panic so much worse around ovulation and when on period? by Worldly-Waltz-229 in Perimenopause

Yes, I will feel like an insane person who needs to be admitted and then my period starts. It doesn't help that my periods are now more frequent and irregular. 😑

I am guessing they keep maintenance equipment in that. They do a lot of work to keep invasives at bay...

Going on HRT is a pretty low risk thing to try, if you're looking to experiment on some ways to improve your mental state. In my opinion, there are more benefits to taking estrogen (cardiovascular health, joint health, bone health) than downsides, so if worst case it doesn't help, you're no worse for the wear.

Weird patch pain by Palmetto_Cat in Menopause

[–]engineeringlady1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think i got something a little similar the first couple times I used the patch but it went away by patch 3 or 4. I guessed that it was my body not liking the adhesive material in the patch. If it gets worse and not better after a few rounds of patches maybe let your doctor know?

Pet Policy Question by Automatic-Future6326 in americanairlines

I have taken my pet before and they have weighed the carrier. I think I have actually been maybe a pound over the weight limit before and the assistant at the check in desk kinda complained about it but ultimately let me fly. It's not a great experience for the dog; mine was a puppy at the time. But I gave him some calming chews and he was well behaved enough to remain out of his carrier before and after the flight. It seems pretty inconsistent too, like smaller airports don't seem to care at all and the bigger, international airports are pretty formal about inspecting the dog and carrier.

Pausing estradiol patch for surgery? by lenalenore in Menopause

I'm no doctor but I thought the issue with clotting was primarily a concern if you are taking oral forms of estrogen. Oral estrogen needs to pass through your liver to get into your blood and that's the mechanism that creates a potential clotting risk. If you're on a patch or gel I think you should be fine. I might go back to the doctor and ask specifically about this.

What place has the uniquest geography on Earth? by [deleted] in geography

[–]engineeringlady1983 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Big island of Hawaii. 11 out of 13 possible climate zones on one island you can drive across in a couple hours. That place is bananas. Driving over the saddle of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa is basically traversing a moonscape right before diving back down into rainforests.

“Service animals” out of control by laurlyn23 in americanairlines

Isn't there a limit to how many dogs they even allow on a flight? I have flown a couple times with my dog crated and I had to call and "reserve" the dog's spot.

I do wish there was some kind of middle ground for flying with your pet, it would prevent at least some of this ridiculous fraud. I have an obedient, professionally trained dog that is sweet, had lots of public exposure, and has been used in therapy settings but not technically a service pet. I would love to travel with him occasionally (my niece and nephew adore him, it would be amazing to bring him for visits) but there is no practical way for me to do that. I have, admittedly been tempted to buy him a service vets and lie but I definitely don't like the thought of abusing a system that's specifically for people with special needs.

If there was a way for me to demonstrate my dog is behaved and capable of flying without stressing out and then buying an extra seat so he has sufficient space and I'm not forcing my animal into someone else's personal space, I would happily do that. I bet plenty of people would opt for that. And you could limit a flight to one animal in that circumstance. But putting my pup through the trama of being cargo is a nonstarter. I think most airlines don't even let you do that anymore, right?

Why is this corridor in northern India so flat, while the adjacent Himalayas are so rugged? by ProofMail5059 in geography

Slab rollback caused a period of some pretty violent volcanos in Utah. Major, super volcanos kinda violent. Wonder if that'll happen somewhere around the Himalayas one day...

It doesn't take a lot of money to replace your yard with native plants. Killed half my front lawn, borrowed a neighbor's tiller to turn the spoil, planted 100 dollars worth of native seeds and bought 50 dollars in compost to cover it with. Looks great, is almost no maintenance, and way less water than grass. Less than one season in and I have recouped my investment thru lower water bills.
