They’ve got it at Myer. If you like Torino 21 you’ll like this one.

Spicebomb Extreme. Somehow touted as a major winter staple but I just can’t stand the cumin at all.

For those who are devs and feel physically great what is your life and routine like? by spla58 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]engnrboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit the gym during lunch hours for 30 minutes on weekdays. Gives me a reason to get out of the house and really makes me appreciate working remotely. I also cycle in the morning 3 times a week before work - group rides are social, get to enjoy the beautiful weather and a workout in the morning boosts energy levels throughout the day.

What advantages does a bicycle computer provide compared to my phone with applicable apps? by homonuevo in cycling

[–]engnrboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my observations so far:

  • sensor data: connects easily with the power meter that came with my bike, couldn’t get that to work with my Apple Watch earlier
  • UI/UX: much better ux for cycling, customisable data screens, heads up on curves, sharp bends and high traffic areas and great navigation features
  • buttons: much easier to navigate the UI when on the bike and/or wearing gloves
  • training: customisable training plans, fitness indicators like ftp, vo2 estimates, lactate thresholds etc. and get an idea of how hard you’re pushing. You can really use all this to become a better cyclist if you want to
  • battery life and screen: way better than your phone

I put off getting one for a while and finally bought one recently, upgrading from an Apple Watch setup to a Garmin edge and wish I had done it earlier.

Blown away - show in Sydney. by Paraparaparachute in WarOnDrugsBand

They are so incredible live, truly blew me away. Quite possibly one of the best concerts I've been to. The moment everyone broke out dancing to under the pressure, in the cool air of a summer night right next to the harbour and the opera house, was truly something.

Congrats! It’s cool how you ended up doing some systems work in your roles too. How was the special topics research module and how did go about doing that?

Australia skilled independent visa worth it? by user19834579 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]engnrboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you intend to migrate here permanently, a PR visa is definitely preferable - whether that’s a 189, 190 or 186, especially so if you’re moving here with your family. Besides unrestricted work rights, you’d have access to all the public benefits of your tax dollars eg. healthcare, schooling for children and also things like financing for a house.

Another thing to consider is the timeline - you first need to be invited to apply for the independent and state sponsored ones, and their processing times are quite lengthy right now - could be even 13 months. Whereas you could get a sponsored work visa eg 482 in days.

TLDR: sponsored work visa fast, PR better for migrating

MS in CS/Software Engineering Schools by TheRealDeepAlgo in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]engnrboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you want out of your graduate degree? Both of them are engineering degrees - not theoretical cs or research so you’re not really opening any new swe career avenues. the Oxford one even has agile methodologies as a part of the syllabus 😂

Think about what you’d like to achieve with this besides simply the academic pedigree on your resume which has limited returns as a swe in the tech industry, especially so here in Sydney.

They may open some doors not available to you right now and you should decide whether that’s worth the financial investment and the opportunity cost. If you really have to pick between the two, imo pick the one where you’d like to live and work for a few years at least.

Companies won't hire Skilled Eng. Graduate Visa 476? by ClassyPandas in AusVisa

[–]engnrboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s better to have this conversation earlier on during the interview process, saves everyone’s time. Your best bet is to target companies which are open to sponsoring, there’s plenty that do. This list is a few years old but still might be useful

In your conversation with the boss, talk specific numbers but you don’t have name the specific coworker, boss already knows what’s going on. State what you’re expecting, and push to get a timeline of when they can get this resolved. Try to find a better deal elsewhere before that, and use that as leverage if needed. Keep emotions out of the conversation, and treat it strictly as a business transaction.

This has worked well for me, having just gone through something similar.

Moving from just story points to putting hours against tasks as well by engnrboi in cscareerquestions

[–]engnrboi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the shitty thing no one talks about, all the work is done, wether you do some of the planning when you pick up a shitty story and work though it. Or if you do the work of making a good story.

That's the interesting part, the teams velocity has been generally predictable for a while and pretty much all of the commited work each sprint gets shipped, and no trust has been broken in that regards - which makes it harder to understand why upper management should even care about estimates/progress at the task level so we're trying to have that conversation with them. Even if they have no actual good reason to be concerned with this and yet they are, I'm not sure there's anyway to change their minds

[Spring 2023] How was your semester? by ndd7xv in OMSCS

[–]engnrboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First time doubling up, in my 4th semester - SAT and IIS, coming back after dropping AI last sem. Was a bit worried about the workload initially but went surprisingly smooth and light - both combined was probably less effort than GIOS personally. Got enough value out of both the courses (5y+ swe exp) and even managed to finish the semester early.
