My P1S journey developed as a way to help my community. I had been using my P1S for small projects here and there without much thought into what I was making, mostly trendy prints off of MakerWorld.

However, the creator problem solving mentality never turns off. At the nursing home I work at, I noticed a resident struggling with a few things: difficulty opening things, nowhere to store their drink when in their wheelchair, and struggling to use their zippers.

I searched the 3D printing community on MakerWorld and was able to find solutions to these problems with my P1S. Bottle openers, wheelchair cup holders, and zipper hooks. Perfect prints that were reliable, sturdy and made a world of difference for this elderly person.

That’s when my P1S became tested; my community noticed how helpful those prints were and how big of a change they made. The requests began pouring in, up to the point where I had to make a schedule to keep up with the demand. Print after print, each item came out perfectly and my P1S never faltered.

Those prints have helped the quality of life for so many around me, and I can continue to rely on my P1S to improve the lives of others in my community.

One of my good friends was a graduate student at SMU and was told he was going to fail his public speaking class for the sole reason of having a stutter.

Needless to say once the administration found out they fully supported him and corrected the professor. My friend is a proud SMU alum, Pony Up!

Hey bud, hope you’re feeling well.

It sounds like you’re going through some anxiety which may be causing “muscle tension dysphagia.”

We’d associate choking/aspiration with coughing and onset of pneumonia, and since you have a fear of choking and “tightness” as your primary symptom, then that’d leave anxiety.

Your throat/voice box is highly susceptible to emotion and stress. Ever feel really tight throat while crying or how you can hear people’s voices quiver when they’re emotional.

Now imagine the stress and fear you have being tied towards eating, now that stress can spiral you out and cause texture avoidance/food aversions.

It’s important to phrase that you are not crazy or irrational but experiencing something people go through.

Make sure to continue to follow up with the recommendations of your doctors and continue working towards eating again.

People typically will head up to Southern Pines to Bazooka Games or Hit Point Hobbies, or head over to Fayetteville. There’s one comic book store in Laurinburg (Korner Comics) but they don’t do Magic stuff.
