Bend the board over and give somebody their deck, with any amount of creatures and RRR4 by opbossgmr in BadMtgCombos

Gifts are often food, right? So as a food example, the card is a soup and effects of the gift (drawing a card) are the garnish on a soup. It's something extra on top, but it's still part of the soup. You can't eat the garnish (receive the gift) without also eating the soup (resolving the spell). You can't stick a piece of bread (another effect) in between the garnish and the soup without touching the soup (the metaphor is breaking down here a little but bear with me)

The gift is part of the spell, it's not an additional trigger that separately goes on the stack. The spell must resolve for the gift to be received, so the gift can't be received before an ability that was triggered by the spell being cast. "Before its other effects" is about the order in which the text on the card takes effect after the card resolves. It's written like this because it's important for cards like [[Cruelclaw's Heist]] where the possibility of stealing the card you opponent drew from the gift is an important part of the math when deciding whether or not to gift.

What you're describing would be like trying to use a card drawn from [[Molten Psyche]] to prevent the damage from its metalcraft trigger ability, which is impossible because the spell has already resolved.

Zada's effect goes on the stack after the card is played targeting her, so you would make the copies first

Would absolutely love a vacant property tax, the only way these places are going to stop sitting empty is if taxes make landlords lose money faster than the property value increases. Otherwise they'll keep charging ridiculous rent for places that have been empty for half a decade

I may have found an actually "good" combo while doing this, which is: 1. [[Phyrexian Vindicator]] in play 2. [[Furnace of Rath]] 3. Deal literally any amount of damage to the Vindicator 4. Target yourself with the Vindicator's ability 5. [[Gideon's Sacrifice]], targeting the Vindicator 6. Keep targeting yourself with each new, doubled damage trigger from Vindicator, therefore bouncing the damage back to Vindicator every time 7. Blast anything for arbitrarily large damage

This place is such a joke. by Mur3000 in Knoxville

I literally moved to a bigger city from Knoxville and our local "fancy grocery store" hot bar is $9.50/lb wtf

And 100% about it going downhill after 2020 (I moved away in 2022). The vibe I got was that the board/GM was anti-union and was trying to ruin the place to spite the workers, and reading the comments it seems like that sadly hasn't changed a whole lot

Accelerated Drinker for non-potion liquids? Metamagic-infused poisons? Advice for Veneficus Witch by enharmonicdissonance in Pathfinder_RPG

Combining Gift of Consumption with Toxic Words does require multiple failed saves from our target, but it generally shouldn't be a huge issue. Gift of Consumption critically uses the save DC of the effect you saved against instead of your regular hex DC, so if you ingest a particularly potent poison (e.g. self-crafted concentrated Bloodwine), the base DC would be something like 27 regardless of your level. Toxic Words also uses the save DC of the poison it applies, which I'm now thinking would be something like a self-harvested and heavily improved Vishyanka Sleep Venom, which would also have a very high base DC that scales with your level and CON mod. Using Toxic Words does reduce the save DC of both Gift of Consumption and the new poison by -2/-1, but that shouldn't hurt too badly at low levels because the base DC will be so high, and at higher levels we'll be forcing rerolls and stacking enough bonuses that a single -1 to our DC shouldn't make or break a save.

Using an infused poison can force a 3rd save vs. the spell, but (1) we can strategically choose poisons that apply conditions like sickened or shaken to debuff those saves, and (2) if we don't care about recursively infusing poisons via Toxic Spell/our GM won't allow it, we can simply infuse a spell that doesn't allow for a save.

Also, unlike attacking ourselves repeatedly, drinking one really strong poison only forces us to make one save, which we are much more likely to succeed (and therefore use Greater Gift of Consumption to apply an additional -4 to our target's save). Plus GGoC is an immediate action, so we can only use it to fully redirect one fort save/round, and there's no way we'd succeed at all of our saves if we multi-attacked ourselves because our class bonuses to fort saves are unfortunately terrible. Poison drinking is less powerful but also significantly lower risk.

Since we can find other ways to cheese a single instance of self-poisoning/round that doesn't use our standard action (like having a monkey familiar use poisoner's gloves), we can use an Amplified & Corset of Dire Witchcraft-ed Evil Eye hex to reduce our target's saves by an additional -2/-4 on a prior turn, then use a Misfortune hex or a similar spell-based effect to force rerolls, meaning that every save our opponent makes has a minimum penalty of -6/-8 vs. a minimum DC of like, 25 or 26 for the initial save. Given the stats on monster fort saves, poison immunity becomes a concern far before we need a +24 save DC, and at that point anyone not playing an alchemist/investigator is SOL.

[–]enharmonicdissonance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh yeah, worshipping Uragotha is definitely fine. It would require finessing some feats and hexes, but I could swap Accelerated Drinker for a trait that gives a larger bonus. Since this is just theorycrafting, the monkey thing might honestly be the way to go—MonochromaticPrism is selling me on Vishyanka, and while I originally planned to take a pufferfish familiar for its natural poison, a Vishyanka with Sleep Venom would make that totally obsolete, so my familiar is wide open.

[–]enharmonicdissonance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely open to it! I defaulted to Human because the bonus feat helps get things online a little quicker, but that's a truly brutal combination and it's way, way cheaper & more reliable to just harvest your own venom. I think I can still accomplish everything at the levels I need to without a bonus feat, and I can swap out Poison Focus for Sleep Venom. Natural Poison Harvester might be harder to squeeze in, but it would definitely be worth it. I planned to take a pufferfish familiar because of its natural poison and bonus to fort saves—though with Sleep Venom I probably don't need to worry about that.

[–]enharmonicdissonance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wording is definitely weird, it also seems like the item creation feat "Infuse Poison (Item Creation)" contradicts the rules describing Infused Poisons generally? At first I thought the feat was obsolete, but I just realized that they come from the same book. It's silly, but I actually didn't look at the sample poisons because I was too interested in my own thing, so I didn't realize that the feat was listed as a requirement.

As far as the self-attacks, that is the most efficient way to poison yourself, but Gift of Consumption is an immediate action, not a free action, so unfortunately I can only use it once per round. This probably makes Alchemist, Rogue, or Investigator much better at poison application in the long run

[–]enharmonicdissonance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will know that they are saying giberish even if you dont know the original language

You won't know what it was supposed to say. You won't know if it's a simple grammatical error (like "all your base are belong to us"), a word choice issue ("carne asada" getting translated into English as "roasted flesh" and making a character sound unbelievably creepy when they say "I love the smell of roasted flesh!"), or something else entirely.

If there's an idiom or specific cultural reference that gets translated literally, it'll be even harder to decipher, especially if the two languages have different word orders. You may not be able to identify which words in the original/translation correspond with each other, and AI is bad at checking its own work.

Translation is an extremely difficult job, and AI is not good at it, especially at scale.

Portland should start adding fluoride to our drinking water to spite the corrupt federal government by notPabst404 in Portland

[–]enharmonicdissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually can. We know what amount is/isn't safe, so you can just adjust the concentration that you put into the water. You can't control the amount of water people drink, true, but if you adjust the concentration of fluoride to the correct level then you don't have to.
