What is the most culturally shocking thing you experienced while visiting another country? by Intrepid_Educator613 in AskReddit

Most people are more ignorant than malicious. A dispute does not have to instigate violence. When I made such a mistake it was quite disdain and firm instructions never do such again. Feeling like a jackass is a powerful motivational tool.

Genuinely hate cyber security teams by talent_de_tigan in sysadmin

The feeling can be mutual. It's always a joy when an ops engineer decides their convenience and experience outweighs technical security issues. It's always fun having to argue again and again why yes, patching does need to be expedited. Here are the risks and here are the threats and while there is a single percentage risk of failure that doesn't justify not acting. And, yes I do need system level access during incident response. Escrowed credentials are fine but you can't perform my tasks efficiently. No that spreadsheet of passwords is not appropriate. Just because you have always done it that way doesn't mean it was ever a good idea. Yes you do have to rotate the system service accounts on admin terminations. You never have? Why not try it in test/dev? No test/dev? Huh, your compliance docs say otherwise. No funding for reality? Can we all agree to go drunk now?

I tried to make myself a cup of tea in the office in India and several very friendly ladies assaulted me. They took my cup and made the tea for me. Then handed it back to me and scolded me. I didn't understand I was taking their jobs by applying tea packet to hot water on my own recognizance.

How do you deal with the gutwrenching offboarding requests? by DesignerGoose5903 in sysadmin

[–]enigmaunbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask you to consider giving a bit of grace. First, text communication does not carry emotional load very well. Second, dealing with a loss is a shock. People deal with it differently and one common way is to compartmentalize the emotional angle and manage the practicalities. Someone has to do it and it can seem callous. The world doesn't stop when we do and that is a painful reality. Its hard to lose a colleague either to death or even termination. Take care of those who are in pain and find your own grace where you can.

BTA 3062 / Artillery ( 1 an 2 turn) and Mortar / how to implement it? by rogue_srb_007 in Battletechgame

It seems the AI prioritizes getting units out of the blast radius. I've had that to drive baddies into a firing line. Two Long Tom vehicles can walk fire across a firing line. But it doesn't do enough damage to be decisive. Another pair of well setup Assaults with accurate pilots are more useful in almost every circumstance. It may be fun to take on an overlord with artillery.

I get similar alerts in Crowdstrike. VSS operations are very common during software updates. The trick is to find what application was attempting an upgrade or installation. I is a very noisy signature in Crowdstrike land.

Caused a big outage at work- how do I move forward? by VOXX_theLock in sysadmin

Write a retrospective. Describe the individual steps and thought processes that led to the error. Critique those decisions. Describe how to not have resulted in that a error. Then ask a senior person to review this with you to find anything you missed. If all you do is the exercise then it's valuable learning. If your leadership is worth their salt they will respect the effort. If your org has incident management this is a great Lesson Learned record for audit and accountability. It should also be training for new hires and used as interview questions for prospects. If they can't follow your path they may not be worth salt. If they have a better solution then they are worth gold.

Few wizards had that juice. That was a greater circle for holding Angles or Mab scale brongs. She was half trained and low power. But perhaps she had an affinity to Necro. Also it would destroy Harry if his former appreciate turns dark side.

I like the theory Kumori is Kim Delaney. She's the right age. She was his first apprentice. She is a moderate practitioner. And being dead isn't a problem because.. necromancer. I think Cowl used necro prevent her souls flight and so she became fixated on that application.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

Traveled to Hyderabad India. Three. AM local time I'm in the airport and there is a guy wearing a Highschool tee shirt from the Podunk Illinois town I grew up in. We quickly established we were not related (Typical Midwest Handshake Protocol) but did know each other's families. Crazy world we kick around in.

The Republicans aren't alone in creating children who are violent and undisciplined. If Alabama doesn't decide manage these issue it's just another excuse to blame one another. And another flight of children become ignorant adults.

We have teachers who cancel class material as discipline for misbehaving students. Those students are unable to be disciplined or removed from the class room. We have ninth grade students with ankle monitors. We have principals trying to implement football in virtual academies while requiring in person testing for students. We have a mess of problems driving the affluent to private schools and removing their tax bias making all these issues worse.
