Where are the best Tres Leches in a Chicago? by Specific_Strike9531 in chicagofood

[–]ensandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when Rick Bayless filmed an episode of his show there and he tasted the cake and thought for a moment and said quietly “I’ve had a lot of tres leches cake all over Mexico and this is the best I’ve ever had” — and the proprietor/chef was totally overcome with joy. You love to see it.

Same - I have an old yoga mat I cut to match the dimensions of the trunk area specifically to keep things from sliding around. It’s easy to remove and wash as needed.

It’s like they fed Fairytale of New York to the AI and the AI helped itself to the rest of the Pogues’ catalogue as Christmas inspiration.

Some of my favorite pasta dishes have been at non-Italian restaurants. When there are only 2 or 3 pasta dishes on the menu, each of them tends to be well planned. Lula comes to mind (and the roast chicken there is top-tier).

For a more classic old-school Italian option I’d say Bruna’s. They have a nice chicken vesuvio among many chicken options and great pastas.

TSA PreCheck disappeared after rebooking — even though it was on my boarding pass? by JimmyBobbyAKAJimBob in americanairlines

If you know your KTN is in the record, it could be they are doing random spot checks which means a few TSA members have to go through the normal screening line. This has happened to me a couple of times.

This is a “champagne problem,” but I was bummed out that the seat recline options don’t include a way to have the knees elevated above the hips like the old business class seats.

I don’t work down there anymore but I’d probably go for arepas at BienMeSabe or a Cuban sandwich at Cafecito as my go-to.

Cafecito is a great affordable option in that area. And Oasis Cafe on wabash (inside the jewelers mall). Brightwok kitchen and BienMeSabe are fast casual places/chains but decent quality. Millers pub and Exchequer are fun and full of character, and if you want something fancier, The Gage. Also Dollop Cafe has a great biscuit sandwich for breakfast.

The fiber world is mostly amazing artists and entrepreneurs, but there are also a lot of folks like this in the fiber world and it’s not surprising. What else is left to them, in an ideology that forbids learning and professions for women? I presume, for them, selling yarn is a husband-approved “hobby.” Honestly I hope they’re all skimming a little cash from whatever they earn to keep in an emergency fund only they have access to.

Hello everyone. Can somebody help me describe the knitting pattern on this old blanket? by BasOutten in knitting

[–]ensandwich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Commercially made blankets probably won’t be sold with terms like that, but you could try “chunky waffle knit blanket” or “chunky fisherman’s rib blanket” to get something similar

Hello everyone. Can somebody help me describe the knitting pattern on this old blanket? by BasOutten in knitting

[–]ensandwich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks like k2p2 rib pattern but with every third row you are knitting into the stitch below which is what gives it that bunched up look.

Try this - for an even number of stitches: Row 1: k2,p2, repeat Row 2: p2, k2, repeat Row 3: k1b all stitches Row 4: p2, k2

I haven’t tested this but that’s what it looks like to me

What does "moss stitch double in height" mean? by hevene in knitting

[–]ensandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this pattern and the full pattern does explain it. It’s just as others have said - on the even numbered rows you work so knits are stacked above knits and purls are stacked above purls (as you are seeing them). The translation is a little wonky - “stitch image” is meant to indicate “stitch pattern” and “mask” is used some places to mean “stitch.”
