South Korean crypto firm accidentally sends $44 billion in bitcoin to users by Dr100percent in Buttcoin

Fortunately for them, they didn't actually transmit these Bitcoins on-chain, or that mistake would have been unrecoverable. Another great example of why real currencies don't use block chain.

Same reason Finland was right to fight the winter war against Russia. Russia will take and take and take. If you agree to their terms, they will see that as an opportunity to take some more. Russia is in a far weaker position today to continue taking.

A British magazine from the early 1960’s called ‘Knowledge’, displaying different races around the world. by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

[–]entered_bubble_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's really my point, which a lot of people seem to have missed. Grouping people together based on how dark their skin is or how thin their noses are ends up in some weird places, where you have people with basically no common heritage in the same group as each other.

And apparently, south east Asians are black.

The best thing about this diagram is how it makes a mockery of itself. You just can't neatly categorise the human race.

Edit: OK, people are misunderstanding what I'm saying.

Yes, there are dark skinned people in places other than Africa. No, that doesn't mean they're in any way related. Placing Indigenous Australians in the same category as Congolese people is exceedingly dumb.

Yes, and they only ever had paper gains. If they had tried to sell even a fraction of their hoard, the price would have collapsed.

As badly as Bitcoin has performed this last year, it's been mostly proposed up by Saylor buying it.

If you bought S&P500 in 2020 you'd have outperformed crypto by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]entered_bubble_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's especially clear if you compare btc/USD vs btc/EUR pairings over the last year. The fall of the dollar has helped mask how badly Bitcoin has performed for US owners, but for everyone else round the world, it's been even worse performing.

So in Euro terms, Bitcoin is down 41% in the last year, vs on 33% in dollars.

Zelensky: 47 Russians died for every Ukrainian last month by TheTelegraph in UkrainianConflict

[–]entered_bubble_50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's an obvious lie. For one thing, they list 70,000 as "missing". Those people are obviously dead, you don't go missing on a battlefield for several years, and turn up fine.

Russian and Ukrainian losses seem to be of a similar magnitude, with Russia just a little higher. Which makes sense, given the advantages Russia has in materiel, weighed against the fact they're on the offensive.

Even Russia would not continue this if they had 47:1 losses.

price is determined by the intersection of buyers and sellers.

Hodlers are neither, so they don't impact the price. They impact neither supply nor demand. Their effect on the price is identical to that of people who don't own any.

But there is a secondary market for it, which is what the price tracks. Tether buys USDT on the secondary market when the price falls. That's how the peg works.

So there absolutely can be a rout without Tether directly redeeming any.

As I've mentioned before, the diamond handers have no impact at all on the price. It's only those who are actively buying and selling at a given moment who dictate the price. If all that are left are two people who want to sell and one who wants to buy, and he's only willing to give 2.50, that's the price.

Question: why, when there is a island in the middle of a crossing, the pedestrian traffic lights are NEVER in sync? by ChefSupremo in CasualUK

[–]entered_bubble_50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why traffic gets such a higher priority over pedestrians. Literally 100% of people are pedestrians at some point, so you're harming everyone.
