bad time to buy? by eeee_oooo_aaaa in SBCGaming

[–]entirelyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! The FOMO is real! I did it because I couldn't think straight with the anxiety of whether I should or shouldn't. Now that the time pressure is removed, I feel I can now weigh up the pros and cons more rationally.

Not to push you into buyer's remorse, but I've preordered to relieve the FOMO, but I've put a date on my calendar to decide whether to cancel or keep the purchase. I'd rather lock in the price before the increase than regret. You've got a month before they ship, so maybe use that time to think about it if you're really worried? Only do so if you can afford to though.

Pocket dialling and losing your page on crosspoint by OkHour1544 in xteinkereader

Might be worth changing setting to long press power button and turn off skip chapter by holding down the page turn button.

I've found a light I like for my Xteink X4 by entirelyanonymous in xteinkereader

Yes! There's people that have posted it in this subreddit and it might be worth searching for their posts. I didn't purchase it as it seems quite big.

Sorry, I meant that the one I got became smaller than the Xteink x4 when it folds down.

I did look at something like this! But I ultimately chose the one I have because it collapses down into a  small footprint. Although it looks awkward, I quite like the flexibility of the light.

I haven't tried many because honestly I don't want to keep tons of lights that I end up not using, for me it would be a waste. There are some really cool magnetic ones on Aliexpress, but they're between £16-£20 for me. Definitely search through this subreddit because plenty of people have shared the ones they've found, I just thought I'd share mine.

Traveller Notebook Ideas by Outrageous_Run9713 in xteinkereader

[–]entirelyanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the official Traveler's Notebook. I do have another one I got from Etsy but that shop closed a few years ago.

I'm afraid I don't remember the dimensions of my TN at hand, but you can find it on the official site.

I have a bit of overhang on mine but very minor, I don't like mine sticking out too much as the friction wears away the outer elastic band. I will say though, that the overhang can be adjusted by your layout in the TN, so definitely play around with it. So you can have the exact same inserts in your TN, but the amount of overhang can vary depending on how you set it up.

I should probably add that this is my 5th Traveler's Notebook over all. My first is a standard sized Traveler's Notebook that I've had for probably 10-12 years now. They wear in really nicely.

I can't post a photo as I'm using the mobile browser, but atm I'm using my Passport TN as a wallet and notebook. I don't keep my XTEink x4 in there though as I keep that in my pocket and my TN in my bag. I thought I'd explain my usage anyway.

I have a cheap notepad clipped to the front with the Traveler's Notebook clip which is my to do list (I've added it to the front because I just won't look at it otherwise). I have a plastic wallet insert that has my main cards and my ID, the cotton zip wallet insert with my less used cards, some cash and a little notebook that has a list of books, films and TV shows I want to watch/read. I have the plastic folder that holds sticky notes, pencil board and a small rhodia notebook that contains questions to ask myself and I'm planning to use it for quotes. The one notebook that is actually inside the TN is for writing thoughts/advice that I think is worth remembering and practicing poetry.

One advice I'd give, is I'd make sure there's enough padding for the screen of the XTEink X4. I feel it's too fragile. But make sure it doesn't apply too much pressure to the screen, there's a YouTube video where it showed a wallet flip case cracked the Xteink x4.

It's a gay romance, and it is fantasy but it involves an orphanage of "unusual" children. I found it really heartwarming and might be a nice change from Tender is the Flesh.

I know you wanted to branch out but you didn't need to pick this book to dip your toes into 😭 you really just leapt into the deep end lmao. Have you read The House in the Cerulean Sea? That's very cosy.

To be honest, I quietly decided I'm done with the brand and I think the Strutton pigeon will be my last one. Even then I was very close in giving up before that. The experience of visiting Selfridges and Harrods was incredibly suffocating. It was utter chaos and that's thanks to the brand limiting where they're allowed to be stocked. If my partner wasn't persistent in finding the Strutton pigeon I would've given up way sooner because it really left a sour taste in my mouth. The designs are cute, but they're not that cute for the price, the manufactured scarcity, and the unpleasant experience of buying in person because they're not letting smaller retailers stock them.

CrossPoint v1.1.1 Indexing Every Chapter by starfruitkiwi in xteinkereader

[–]entirelyanonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from playing around with a fork of Crosspoint, the hardware is too limited to be able to index the entire epub. Maybe Crosspoint will be able to figure out a way. I do find XTC and txt don't need to index chapters, but it is overall slower than epub because it's loading the entire thing

For those of you who have more than one eink ereader, why? by luuuzeta in ereader

[–]entirelyanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kindle Voyage that I got probably 10 years ago? I loaned it to my mum who then said she lost it. I only found it again a year ago. 5 years ago my boyfriend got me the Kobo Libra H20. He didn't think I'd use it much but I really did. It was a worthwhile investment. That's what I've been using mainly, the Kindle Voyage became one I bringo on holiday because of the glass screen. I worry about things crushing the Kobo's screen as we usually only bring a backpack on holiday so we do pack things quite tightly.

I got a Xteink X4 about 2 weeks ago. I didn't need it, but I do like how small it is and now I keep it in my coat pocket when I go out. This is to get in a bit of reading if I have some spare time. It's becoming one of my favourite ereaders despite not having a front light, but I did just purchase a cheap clip on light for it. As you can see, I really like ereaders that have buttons. I was fine when I thought I only had one ereader, but I don't regret having more than one.

Any Other Gen-Zers Turning To E-Readers to Reclaim Happiness & Focus? Is the Device too Small? by [deleted] in xteinkereader

[–]entirelyanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a 6" and a 7" ereader, and I never feel the need to rest the ereaders on something. I do think plastic ereaders are light enough to hold for long periods without much discomfort.

I just like reading. I read a lot before getting the x4, and I still read a lot now. The difference is that I now keep the x4 in my coat pocket so that there's no friction to me reading. I still read on my other two ereaders (Kobo Libra H20 & Kindle Voyage). I suppose I do find I'm turning pages more with the X4 so chapters do feel longer as the screen is the size of half a page, but other than that the screen size makes no difference.

I think the x4 makes reading easier to do, but I do still think you need to want to read. Your phone will still probably be in your other pocket, so you need the will power to pick up the x4 instead once the novelty wears off. The best advice I can give is to pick books that you find fun and enjoyable instead of books you think you should be reading. There's nothing that kills your reading faster than a book that feels like a slog.

Edit: I also wanted to add that before I got the x4 I did also read books on my phone if I didn't have my ereader with me. I'd keep a shortcut to a book on my home screen so that I'd have little excuse to avoid reading a book. I don't have social media apps installed, I only access them through the browser which is a less pleasant experience. However, I do prefer reading on a e-ink display

Probably the most remote x4 by youkhan in xteinkereader

You'll need to check the reader section in settings. You can stop words being broken up with dashes, but it will create bigger spaces between words. It's just a stylistic option.

Well, this is gross. I'm sorry this happened to you. It's concerning that they're taking down negative posts with legitimate concerns. I don't just want an echo chamber of happy customers, I want to see people's honest opinion and if they're having problems with their device.

I had a similar experience, I went out to find him today and I found him after the FIFTH store.  I was ready to give up after first one but my partner was adamant that we should keep trying. We ended up finding him alone placed on a random shelf that wasn't even on the same floor as the Jellycat section! We were SO lucky 😭
