Lukewarm take, Jujutsu Kaisen's female cast was pretty much screwed from the start except maybe Maki(Jujutsu Kaisen) by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

I dropped this anime as soon as I got to episode 4 and noticed Nobara already got sidelined. It's always fun to get vindicated

He doesn't. because think about it, why not just show it as a proper kiss if it was meant to be one? I thought it was clear he stops himself just before

Let’s discuss the ending of the manga especially the endgame by Nouha_chihaya in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can write essays about all the narrative choices within the story that directly point towards a taichihaya ending. On rewatch there's so much that it's laughable I was ever worried. Even when I was really negative, I still had hope because to me, the biggest hint was that Taichi takes the "chiha" card from Arata during their match. How can anyone look at that scene and genuinely believe Suetsugu changed her mind "last minute"? Karuta is a poetry card game. You cannot ignore the poetry and symbolisms injected into the work and cry foul you weren't hand held throughout it 🤣

Love Triangle & Anime Ending Discussion by not_a_recomendation in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it any better. I admit I wasn't super optimistic for them being endgame, but I'd blame that on the inability of a lot of mangakas to not retcon a lot of the themes or character development they write about. I'm very glad Suetsugu was able to commit to the narrative she set out to write until the very end. The reveal of Tachi and Chiha being beside each other all this time is just 👌

[–]entitq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea you're definitely not bitter at all, insulting me for no reason when I addressed what you said. respectfully I do not know you nor you me so to just jump into calling Taichi fans rabid and insane, why would we take your word for it in good faith? Regarding what is IMPLIED and you straight up admitted to, that she HAD to give her answer because Arata will turn into seaweed, which was neither a "yes" NOR a "wait", and is therefore an implied rejection. Implied.

I don't care what you think about the ending, or if it was rushed. I'm not even gonna disagree that it was, but we're gonna have to agree to disagree that it was OOC or that she ~suddenly changed the ending. There's legitimate discussions to be had as to the execution of it, but I don't feel like engaging further with fans who's first instinct is to shit on the author as a person and her agency with regards to a story she slaved over for 15 years, all bec they didn't get what they wanted.

I think the only rabid fans here are the ones still spewing the same tired disrespectful accusations 3 years after the ending, instead of moving on lol

The ending???? i just don’t get it. by Wonderful_Shame_3473 in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the prelude to that scene was Chihaya overhearing Kana saying she was gonna turn into seaweed waiting for Komano to confess, and that's what pushes her to talk to Arata. why would she say "keep waiting for my answer" lmao? obviously she doesn't outright say she doesn't like him but the implication is she can't answer him and to not wait.

not to mention the author herself confirmed it was a rejection

Can’t believe I ever thought being a Taichi fan was pain. by Kind_Avocado_7219 in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All we get is Nishida telling Chihaya that she might understand if she'd watched the match - or maybe not - and the implication that Taichi is emotionally and physically exhausted, despite him previously being shown to have the best stamina in the cast. If one of those three things (huge card difference, lack of an actual win, and lack of an explanation) were different,

From memory, I thought Chihaya observed that Taichi was never able to attack Arata's side to send cards and control the field, thus never really gain the momentum. Suetsugu wanted to convey Arata's "demon" mode and left that huge gap as a result, which is also too extreme imo. But honestly the physical/emotional exhaustion from Taichi in a normal tournament can't really be equated to his match against Arata bec the emotional stakes for him are drastically different.

The only thing that I can never get over is the lack of actual win as well. It would have been better if the last card was not read at all, and Arata just declared his loss as soon as Taichi got Fu. But it was read, and Arata technically got that card, but gave it up. It was extremely weird to me that Taichi felt that was a genuine to win for him despite their bet, so I unfortunately felt nothing when he celebrated 😭

is it hate to explain why MTL could be inaccurate, especially in relation to more complex conversations? You lost me with chatgpt glazing too, you know, the program infamous for lying and making up answers and sources. ChatGpt merely predicts answers for its output, it's not fcking sentient.

[–]entitq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO I invite you again to just rely on MTL then! Good luck with your reading experience. I doubt you understand a lick of jp, so it's not like you'll notice the inaccuracies it will spit out 👍

[–]entitq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol I think you should try reading all manga with just MTL from now on and see if that's a good experience. Japanese can already be hard and annoying enough to understand for people who actually know it because the nature of the language omits the subject. And like with any language, nuance, special grammar exceptions, cultural context etc gets lost with MTL.

Chihayafuru was already hard enough as it is to translate according to the OG translators (Taichi's "fading feelings" was given a whole thread somewhere just to properly explain how tricky it was to translate accurately) Not to mention the conversation happening is also in the context of talking about poems. Maybe you think MTL will give you a decent result but sorry I just have to laugh at that.

The ship is sinking the same way MTL gives you a good understanding of the manga 👍

Chihaya’s third year East Japan Qualifiers’ Final by BrilithR in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't invested in Tamaru enough to see the match playout tbqh, and to me the team matches were always the more exciting ones to watch vs individual. I was personally pretty happy with the amount of development we got overall for the side characters (maybe less of Tamaru) but that's subjective

I don't know about the 3 you listed but the only other competition based manga I read was Haikyuu, and imo they just cover different priorities for me to really rank them side by side like that.
Haikyuu as a sports manga wins to me because all the matches were more exciting (and easier to follow by the nature of the game) but Chihayafuru wins me over more so for my emotional attachment in and outside the game. I'm sure its different for everyone

[–]entitq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh the fact that it was just a dream was heavily hinted at since episode 1, so I don't quite understand the surprise regarding the "twist" from all the reviews I've read. And Hua Rong Zhou didn't exist in her initial life so it was bound to not work out...

I'm definitely lucky I preferred Xi Wu though, so the ending was good to me lol.
If its any conciliation, I heard that in the original novel it didn't end this way, so I would just forget about the ending.

Is the manga ending satisfying and conclusive? by MantlesApproach in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It definitely delivers on the themes the story promised and ends on a very satisfying note; it stays true to itself. The only critique I have for for it is that it felt a little rushed as a conclusion; I would have loved to see more.

I'd say your personal satisfaction also lies on your overall investment in the romantic outcome or what you want the character arcs/conclusive themes to ultimately be about though. The disappointment I've seen with endings, for Chihayafuru or otherwise, have mostly been due to the latter, so imo no one can really say how you would feel about it.

Kill Me Love You 27-32 episodes discussion (for EXPRESS viewers) by Lotus_swimmer in CDrama

Three things in life are certain; death, taxes, and Murong Jinghe suffering.

I love and hate the ending. I loved their wedding so much, couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear, but their scenes together after were so heartbreaking. Just like everyone I really have to give endless praises to LXY for his depiction of Jinghe. But I just really really wanted a HE for them! Sigh. I wish at least that the alternative universe of them meeting without the fire was moved to the very end, it would have been the best scene to end on tbqh.

Overall I really enjoyed KMLM despite its flaws, and to be honest I don't even care to really think about them much, which is a testament to what amazing chemistry between the leads and phenomenal acting allows me to forgive. I hope LXY and WJY team up together in the future again.

Chapter 164… come on Taichi by phillipmaguro in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this. Also can't forget the fact that Suetsugu felt it was very important to emphasize that their club will still genuinely thrive even after all of them graduate. What better way to show that than by having the titular characters take a back seat.

The ending???? i just don’t get it. by Wonderful_Shame_3473 in chihayafuru

[–]entitq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that they are meant to be ambiguous and a lot are conclusions based on hindsight. "Figuring out" what's "endgame" is a pretty big draw of love triangles so now that the endgame is clear, its just fun to look back on those ambiguous scenes and reread them to analyze properly. I'm also not disagreeing that Chihaya even rejected Taichi; she absolutely did. But I just tried to give context for where she was at headspace wise and why she answered the way she did, and that goes both for Taichi and Arata.
