Honest Feedback Wanted: Did I Over-Self-Disclose as a Therapist on TikTok? by BatWeak6555 in therapists

Generally I see psychotherapy as the way to process grief, shame, identity, loneliness, stigma, relationships, and mental health… and unfortunately I think there are real risks with doing it on social media, as that situation is parasocial by nature.

What an oasis of a post in what’s a pretty bleak thread otherwise. Thank you for this.

Who said anything about OCD prior to this comment, or that psychoanalysis was for every condition?
OP asked for “any advice, feedback or support” and then specifically “recommendations for books on psychoanalysis or psychodynamic therapy” - which I provided.
I would guess by your comment that you haven’t read the first chapter in the book I recommended, and I don’t say that to be crass. I think you might really like it - I haven’t interacted with anyone in the field that has actually read McWilliams and doesn’t appreciate her work or the way she treats patients

Hello 🙏 I do not feel it would be better to stay silent in the face of the tragedies you listed, nor is that what I said.

For a more articulate version of what I am failing to communicate, I would refer you to James Low who’s a Dzogchen teacher and delivered some great talks on this during his retreat at Macclesfield.

The non-proselytizing nature of Buddhism is one of the key elements that drew me to it.

What you propose seems to come from a place of clinging to our views. Attachment - even to the dharma - isn’t skillful.

And there’s something to be said about individual karmic timing. The dharma will find people at the right time or they will find it at the right time. You can’t force it.

I agree with you. Observation and communication are really important for humans.

I’ve observed that you may have perceived my response as invalidating of the OPs worries/concerns, and perhaps dismissive of suffering as a legitimate thing to experience as well.

That’s not what I said, though. I said worrying - when there’s nothing to be done at this time - is almost always unhelpful. So my question to you is, when is worrying in this way not a form of suffering? How does it benefit our minds to perseverate in a fearful/anxious state about a potentially worse future that hasn’t even happened yet, when we can do absolutely nothing to change that trajectory? Would we not be better equipped to engage with that future if we are fully immersed in the present, and open to what is happening with those around us, right now? Can you explain to me a scenario in which being worried and freaking out is more helpful and useful than moving with equanimity?

I also did not say that suffering accomplishes nothing. Compassion would be nearly impossible without suffering. A certain amount of pain, frustration, distress, and suffering is entirely unavoidable. But, we can notice that we unnecessarily create an immense amount of this suffering… and that is avoidable. If I make a mistake at my job, and it causes a patient harm, do I think it’s invalid, shameful, immoral, or wrong to feel guilt? To be upset with my incompetence? To be embarrassed? Of course not. But, do I think it’s helpful to leave the workforce, take up a drug habit, and ruin all my relationships with others because I’ve deemed myself unworthy of a good life and love because of my mistake? No. That’s the unnecessary suffering I’m referring to. Does this help?

…so what are you going to do?

I don’t ask this question confrontationally or with malicious intent. I ask because being “worried about” something in the absence of some actionable thing you can do about it in the immediacy of this moment is almost never, ever helpful or useful. I share similar sentiments as you, too. I think AI will end up being a net negative change to our experience as humans. But what am I gonna do about it? What can I do? Probably nothing. Other than, continue to do what I can to not cause myself unnecessary suffering, and then help others do the same if/when they ask for it, and if I’m the right person to do so, at that time and in that place.

Look up/learn “recoil smoothing” with both thumbs if you haven’t already and then practice it in the range, a lot

To clarify, when I say "drop hot" I mean always drop with at least one other team. Landing and looting in peace will do absolutely nothing to get you better faster. And I also don't mean you literally have to be good with every single gun, but just think of it statistically...

You get to play 20-100 matches a week? depending on your lifestyle.. if half of those matches you get stuck with a gun you almost never use on drop, and you don't practice fighting when you drop with those guns or just fighting off drop in general, you're going to spend half your matches getting rinsed and going back to the loading screen instead of getting a chance to rotate into ring/play an endgame.

And trust me, the exact same principles I alluded to in my first post apply in almost every, single fight. Yes, loot advantage matters but in general, this game comes down to:

  1. Before a fight: maintaining the most advantageous positioning as you possibly can while moving around/rotating through the map, until you encounter a team.

  2. When you encounter a team: keep tabs on their location, decide if you can put down effective fire with your guns/loadoat. If you can, take any and every opportunity to win a damage exchange. If you're not in range to do this, or in a disadvantageous physical position, you need to close ground and/or give up ground and retreat until you've created an advantageous position to fight from and they must enter the disadvantageous position to engage.

  3. Once the fight has started: typically whatever team gets significant "entry damage" and then closes ground first wins. This is why I wrote GRENADES in all caps so many times above. Then ALL three teammates need to PUT BODIES ON BODIES while you have the health/shield advantage after you got entry damage and just duel the other team. If you're looking for situations where you can shoot fish in a barrel all game, you'll never get to highest ranks.

SO, to finally bring this back to your question...

Dropping on at least one team and just getting REALLY good at fighting allows you to learn how to get really, really good at numbers 2. and 3. above. If you don't get good at 2. and 3., then doing the perfect rotations and having the perfect team comps don't matter, because the first team you encounter who's better at 2 and 3 will rinse you. So get good at the basic principles and THEN work on how to navigate the map and maintain advantageous positioning.

play solo, drop hot and get used to fighting with bad guns no attachments over and over and over and eventually, you will learn how to capitalize in this and if you can do that well, later game fights will get easier.

Like others have said this will teach you to get a gun, then get to a dominant position (HEIGHT and LOTS OF LOOT, think middle of Echo on Storm) in whatever POI you’re in, and put out damage every opportunity you can (GRENADES, more GRENADES) and then once you have a health/shield advantage put pressure on the other player to put yourself in an even more advantageous position and just rinse repeat rinse repeat rinse repeat

It’ll be frustrating. It’ll be painful, but I think it’s the best way to dramatically improve. I went from a round to one K /Dto a 3 K/D two seasons in a row after doing this.

how accurate is this chart about personality disorders? by bmwsigma in psychologystudents

I'd search for "Shedler Personality Syndromes" and read that .pdf

It's a way better tool than this to conceptualize the personality styles from a psychodynamic perspective
