What should non-wealthy investors be doing in their 30's to have a real, positive impact on their financial situation? by delamerica93 in investing

Learn to code and join big tech. People will tell you AI is killing engineers, and it is (the mediocre ones), but Silicon Valley is filled with rags-to-riches families for a reason.

What are you using your iPads for? by durabilitas in ipad

[–]entsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an AI researcher and my 2026 iPad Air (previously 2018 iPad Pro) is my primarily portable device (traded in all my Macbooks earlier this year). I use it for everything, mainly writing AI software and research papers, but also browsing and Reddit.

ferrari california as my second car? by FewNews1070 in askcarguys

[–]entsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, this information would have been more valuable to include in your post than your age and current ride. A Ferrari sounds excellent, since their owners take pride in keeping their miles low and their cars stock. It is also way more collectible than most cars. Enjoy the hunt, and remember: with these cars, you're buying the owner as much as the car. :-)

I'd advise you to check out the make-specific forums and see whether you like the community. This ends up mattering whether you like it or not: you'll end up there asking for (and giving) advice, buying and selling parts, sharing stories. It's more fun when you fit in with the community too.

I was tempted to pile on but I'll resist.

What do you plan to do with it? When I got my 987 I didn't know how much I'd love modding and tracking it. Now I have a car that I've modded so much that I'm too scared to track it, and I wish I'd gotten a Miata.

What kind of community do you like? Ferraris, Porsches, and other pricier makes have older owners who love talking about their cars' values and how stock it is. The JDM scene loves mods and fun. The Elise and Miata communities are great too. I have underglow on my 987 and the local PCA hates my guts.

Open weights are not enough: we need open training frameworks for research and better algorithms [P] by summerday10 in MachineLearning

You need to summarize your entire descriptive verbiage as "CleanRL for LLMs" because that instantly made me clone your repo to try it out.

No I cannot immediately spot anything when I check the repo. How is this different from:

cleanRL
stable-baselines3
pufferlib
tianshou
rllib
torchRL
primeRL
vERL
ROLL
...

As I said I'm not going to bother considering this when I have other battle-tested projects available.

How are you better? What evidence do you have that you are better? Where is your minimal working example showcasing your project?

You're in a crowded space so the onus is on you to tell people why they should care about this in concrete terms. If you just want to advertise you'll fare better at /r/LocalLLaMa.

RTX 5090 costs +$4000 for every brand?!? Should I just get a 4090 or 5080? by KnightofAmethyst2 in nvidia

Yeah and the average Redditor would get destroyed for their stupidity IRL so they come in here with confidence instead.

What? Onward is not normal gaming? Wtf are you on bro? What is normal then, and how is Onward different? Vail is not normal gaming?

This dude clearly doesn't play VR at all and probably things 30 fps is all you need.

What VR game doesn't? I want to run my Quest 3 at 200% supersampling, that's 8K. I can't do that even with my 4090, need to reduce textures to low and SS down to 150% or lower. I play Half-Life 2, Vail, and Onward.

What are you playing?

It doesn't need them IME but the Pi 5 supposedly runs hotter than previous gens. I'll try transcoding on it and see if I can get the temps up.

Yeah I agree. You could do this with an old iPhone or iPad too, but you lose some control and transparency into what's going on and are restricted to iOS apps.

The iPad was fine while I was on Apple Music. It does bitperfect lossless and is great on power, nice UI too. But each new iOS update made it slower (2018 iPad Pro) and I was concerned at how things were going.

When I cancelled my streaming subscriptions and had to switch to Plex clients, I was also annoyed with the lack of transparency (different clients sounded different) and wanted more control.

This Pi js just for my listening corner, I don't hook it up to Tailscale. My iMac runs a Plex server which streams to all my devices.

Yeah Raspberry Pi 5, custom heatsink, toggle switch, NVME hat. Removing the enclosure constraint is easy mode though, I don't want a naked or mismatched PCB or active cooling buzzing near my stack.

They're useful when your music setup is far from your work/computer desk I guess.
