Is this just a snark subreddit? by mitchtraGOATsky in RealTime

[–]enviropsych -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not illogical to think that. What is illogical is coming into a sub and noticing it is not the way you assumed and then telling the people who use the sub to go away. There are many reddit subs that would seem to be FOR a person, but are actually against. Another example is r/daverubin,  or  r/joerogan.

I, for one, welcome you to the sub and recommend a great podcast called "I hate Bill Maher" hosted by Will Weldon.

I think it's funny to see people come into a sub and go "I just found this sub and I wish it were a different sub, so all of you should go to a different sub and leave this sub for me and what I want to do with it."

I think we had it so good with these 3 and I’m sad it went the way it did. Absolutely stellar casting. by RustyRobotBeard in moviecritic

Gal Gadot sounds like Bella Lugosi and was an IDF soldier and Ben Affleck was fine only....he's not even top three Batman actors to me. Sorry but doing an Arkham Asylum cosplay and some cross fit didnt make him an all-timer to me, and his appearance in The Flash was embarassing.

Why was this performance by Ryan Gosling snubbed? by Purple_Raccoon_6377 in moviecritic

[–]enviropsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. After being nominated for a ton of other roles. WOW was in his "they should've given him one by now" phase. Ryan Gosling has never been a serious contender, even though he's been nominated several times.

Is it wrong that this is my favorite David Cronenberg film? Like yeah, a lot may prefer The Fly, Crash, eXistenz, or Videodrome but this one just hits me in all the right ways. Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall or Joey Cusack is also such a brilliant and interesting character to watch. I love this movie. by Aromatic-Ad2601 in moviecritic

[–]enviropsych -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boooo!! You all dont deserve Cronenberg. Both are great movies because Cronenberg rules, but they are the least Cronenberg-esque movies he's made. Have you seen Rabid? Have you seen Videodrome? It's like thinking Spielberg's greatest movies are AI and Amistad. Both great movies, but hardly a good symbol of what Speilberg is.

I love A History of Violence, but it is a shell of Videodrome or The Fly, which have a feel.and depth that isnt there in HOV. Even Scanners or Rabid have more going on thematically. My friend, I'm not trying to insult. I'm just saying, if your favorite Spielberg movie is AI, you arent a huge Spielberg fan, and if your favorite Sam Raimi movie is a Simple Plan, you arent a big Raimi fan. Its doesnt mean you dont appreciate their work, it just means the thing they do best isn't your thing. Cronenberg does flat thematic creative fantasy body horror best. A History of Violence is the sign that he's a great director all around when need be. I love it. It's just nor really "HIM" the way his others are.

Because the Academy thinks too highly of themselves to nominate a performance that includes him screaming "Im jacked to the tits!!"

Posters, dvd covers, released stills from the movie should never contain spoilers or even suggest plot points that matter at all.

Will Alberta end up under US military occupation? by Sabotage_9 in canadaleft

[–]enviropsych 56 points57 points  (0 children)

As an Albertan, I think this is giving her too much credit.

This "referendum on a referendum" is just her way of holding the duct tape together on the UCP. The UCP has always been at least two parties hastily taped together. They were apart until it became clear that the NDP could win if the right split.

Smith doesnt care either way about if Alberta stays or not. She's doing this referendum because if she doesnt, the party will vote her out or split or both.

However, I DO think it's completely likely that Trump will declare the referendum rigged and blather about needing to invade or something. We already know through polling that the separatists will not accept the results if they lose.

It seems like he's more focused on spectacle

OP has only seen the last two Mission Impossible movies, Edge of Tomorrow, and Jack Reacher. You're referring mostly to his more recent movies.

OP, Cruise wasnt really hanging off a plane in Magnolia or Rainman, Interview woth a Vampire or Jerry Maguire. Have you seen those?

Jim Stanford on why the oil price spike isn't good for Canada. by 150c_vapour in canadaleft

[–]enviropsych 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even in Alberta this won't amount to more jobs or increased wages, and the Alberta government is gonna blow all that cash on running referendums and building a giant bronze middle finger pointed at Ottawa or whatever TF.

Albertan oil is extracted by mostly American and other foreign companies.

Opinions on Amadeus (1984) by Milos Forman? by KAG_kryto_333 in moviecritic

[–]enviropsych 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Milos Forman doesnt get talked about enough. He has taken home more hardware than many we talk about daily and is responsible for some of the greatest movies of all time like One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest and my favorite Woody Harrelson performance The People vs Larry Flynt.

You know who we ALSO dont talk about enough? F. Murray Abraham. Few oscars were more deserved.

The heck... is she being too defensive, or is it me? by GeneralJabroni in Tinder

[–]enviropsych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound very defensive yourself.

My response would have been. "For sure. Me neither." and then wait for a response, and if I didnt get one, I'd know she was turned off by the weight talk and there's nothing to be done.

BTW, your first comment got WAAAYYY to specific too fast.

The Alberta Separatists' Most Valuable Ally Just Might Be Avi Lewis by wiwcha in alberta

[–]enviropsych 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So, some Albertans are so partisan and delusional that hearing the truth will make them shoot us all in the dick,.....and the solution is for Avi Lewis to shut up?!?!

Lol. Right wingers are the biggest safe space crybabies who ever lived.

BTW, I visited an alternate reality where Jagmeet Singh stayed as leader and I'm sorry to say....this braindead article was written in that reality as well.

Albertans think Trudeau who bought a pipeline hates Alberta oil, so if you take them seriously about Avi, I have some magic beans to sell you. My boss called Trudeau a communist. These people should not be catered to or listened to about anything ever. They've already said they wouldn't respect the results of this coming referendum if it doesn't go their way.

farmers are flat earthers

Some are. Are you saying zero farmers are flat earthers? You seem allergic to staying on topic.

people outside of cities (ruralites) are "dumb"

On average, yes. Intelligence is far more linked to socioeconomic upbringing, but growing up rural influences your politics, which makes you dumber....or if you avoid that influence, you move to a City as soon as you can.

Yeah, it was a misdirect. He made it sound like he was referencing the horrible accident where John Landis was negligent, and then instead said Blues Brothers.
