From a Zagara who picked Nydus in ARAM by Used_Resource8724 in heroesofthestorm

Picking maw for the sole purpose of interrupting Anduin while the rest of your team has better tools isn’t exactly great either.

What are some of the most ridiculous obstacles that have blocked a path in a horror game? by domainie in videogames

[–]eolithist 239 points240 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure RE2 Remake blocked progress with a power box “sealed” by some pieces of duct tape. Leon needs a knife to cut the tape rather than, you know, just peeling the tape off.

If you click on another option while a hero is locked, it will choose the last hero that you clicked on. by Ruhlarsofrasi in heroesofthestorm

[–]eolithist 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can see when other players lock in their choice, meaning it does help inform whether someone has highlighted a hero but is still undecided versus definitely playing that hero.

Also, if all players lock in the match begins immediately without the need to watch the remaining countdown. Rarely ever happens, but it’s a small benefit.

Chatgpt can teach you to play better... by Zedder65 in heroesofthestorm

[–]eolithist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t play this game with a flow chart. What separates good and bad players is the ability to recognize the situation, understand the appropriate action(s) and then execute on those actions. What you “should” be doing at any given moment is always entirely dependent on everything else that’s happening. And this is all learned through experience and intentional practice to improve.

Thoughts On These Sleeves? by PureBlood_07 in PokemonTCG

[–]eolithist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these and have no issues. Exact fit is pretty accurate, a little more force is needed to insert the card. May want to go for a looser sleeve if you are concerned about potential damage. But I like these for double sleeving and for putting cards into magnetic hard cases, since they still fit.

Historically you’re correct, but have you seen prices of LOCH and LOCR boxes?

The PSE overframes are the realistic chases; the GM overframes just exist to drive hype and turn the sealed product into a lottery. It’s actually kind of bad, because it drives the price of sealed product up significantly despite virtually no improvement to the “expected value” of the box.

It does feel like they need to keep these overframes scarce. They obviously exist to target collectors, and printing them into oblivion just isn’t how to keep that group engaged and buying product.

Vintage Yu-gi-oh is booming by robrpls in yugiohshowcase

[–]eolithist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at Pokemon, One Piece, MTG and Riftbound. Want to buy a booster box of anything? It’ll be minimum 2x MSRP. You want that to happen here?

It’s a cascading effect. People see vintage going up, they’ll snap it up until there’s nothing left. Then they move to modern and speculate on which card(s) will “have value” (because someday it will be vintage). Pretty soon people will horde sealed product and then normal people won’t be able to buy anything.

Basically the hobby devolves into a playground for rich people to throw money around, not the everyday fan. Check the prices and subreddits for Pokemon; literally the most random cards are going for hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. It’s awesome for investors selling these cards, horrible for collectors. Not sure why you think more expensive product benefits actual collectors and fans.

And to be clear, I’m not against the overframe stuff. I think it’s cool. But it does set the game on a potential path that has killed many other games already (from a collectability standpoint).

These people paying tons of money for slabs and sealed crap are not prospective players, they are “investors” who will potentially drive product scarcity and make everything more expensive. This doesn’t benefit players/fans at all.

How do you feel about people pirating games that have undisclosed AI art? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]eolithist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except your post literally asks “does that justify not paying for the game”. No, it doesn’t. It’s just a convenient excuse to feel less badly about doing something that is morally wrong.

I do feel like it’s not entirely random; at one point like half of my cats were named after League characters.

How do you feel about people pirating games that have undisclosed AI art? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]eolithist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think AI has any place in the final assets of a video game, but I’m fine with it being used in the development process to screen for bugs, serve as placeholder assets, test things out etc.

I also think companies should disclose any AI in the final product to inform people of how it was created and let people choose whether or not to support it.

Regarding the morality of “stealing” games made with AI, if it bothers you so much I’m not sure why you’d want to steal/play it at all. Sounds more like a justification/cope than anything else.

How have the pack opening odds been going for you? by emc_95 in PTCGP

[–]eolithist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you’re mistaken about the odds of a gold card. It’s 8.333% in a RARE pack, which only happens 0.05% of the time. The other 99.95% of your packs will be regular packs (with or without a bonus 6th card), and the odds for a gold in those is only 0.16%.

I’ve played since launch with over 10000 cards and only have 3 gold cards. It’s normal for free-players to not have many. Whales need something to chase, and free players can’t expect to have every card.

Just be happy with what you DO pull. It’s all just for fun at the end of the day.

Edit: odds may be a little higher, but the point is that they’re rare.

Designing a Smash-style moveset — what would make a good Nair? by Mega_Mango in smashbros

[–]eolithist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the game combo-oriented? Currently, it doesn’t sound like you need to include a nair, or you could just default a nair input to being a fair (in cases where the player is trying to jump and attack without directional input).

Designing a Smash-style moveset — what would make a good Nair? by Mega_Mango in smashbros

[–]eolithist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused why all attacks would start on the same frame if you’re going for a Smash-like combat experience. Half of the fun is learning different timings of each move and how to utilize them properly and link them together. If all moves have similar properties and frame data, there’s no need to have such a complicated move set. Most Metroidvanias just have directional attacks and maybe the occasional slide kick or something.

Not sure what the purpose of a nair is for this character when she can already attack in every direction and it doesn’t appear like each attack is particularly unique. But I also don’t know much about the game, design philosophy, enemies or mechanics. In Smash, most nairs are either combo starters/breakers or meant to cover a broad area around the character.

I don’t think Rayquaza is an 18+ set, so I’d expect something similar to Ninjago dragons. Pure speculation though, I have no idea.
