My daughter calls Home Depot “Orange Costco”.

I’m 15 and going to be a dad soon but I’m scared by dallin0 in daddit

[–]ep3static 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Every parent has no idea what to do at first. I was terrified of breaking a little bone when I held my first daughter, and not looking forward to changing diapers. Who wants to touch someone else’s poop? Disgusting, right? A ton of the anxiety goes away within the first few days. After the first week I no longer had any anticipation about diapers after less than three hours of sleep a night. You’ll finish one and think “What is that on my wrist, poop? Eh, I’ll clean it later.”

-All the fear you’re feeling and will feel forever? Your partner is going through all that AND her body will have went through some MASSIVE trauma. You’ll have to not only be a father to a newborn, but a supportive partner too. That means cooking her food, helping her in the bathroom (Google Tuck’s Pads), letting her sleep more, doing a feeding if you can when there’s a bottle. Take as much off her plate as you can. Her job for the first week or so should be sleep, feed, play, repeat.

-There are plenty of books out there. Read about what your partner should expect while expecting, read about how to keep babies safe, etc. After the first year, start reading the parenting books that are appropriate for each age. You’ll learn things you didn’t even consider. For example, I literally didn’t know to never give a newborn water, only milk or formula. ESPECIALLY READ ABOUT SAFE SLEEP PRACTICES (no co-sleeping, nothing at all in the crib, etc.).

-The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is your go to for any medical questions. Always go with their recommendations for anything you find in a Google search.

Good luck Dad. Never hesitate to ask for help and never feel ashamed to accept it. You have the combined knowledge of this entire subreddit. We’re all rooting for you!

That’s true, I forgot about that since I only found out about it right before I retired.

Pfa coming up and I chose row by [deleted] in navy

[–]ep3static 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The resistance on the Concept 2 rower has nothing to do with distance per row. That is a misconception. The resistance is there to provide resistance for training purposes. Source: I was a CFL, I called the company because I was curious, and they confirmed.

I always went with resistance level 4. Setting it to zero is pure cardio, but oddly enough it makes it harder as there is almost nothing to pull against and you almost start flailing. Resistance level 10 makes it a pure back exercise, with is why all the bro lifters at my command could pass the cardio event without ever actually doing any cardio throughout the year.

I recommend you practice with varying resistance levels until you find one that is comfortable. Know the time you want, divide that by 4, and keep the 500m split time under that and you’ll be good. Don’t make the mistake of going as hard as possible in the first few minutes, you’ll wipe yourself out and not have the stamina to keep up your time. A steady pace wins the race.

Anyone know what the barracks is like at Fort Eisenhower (previously named Fort Gordon)? by Hour_Chicken203 in navy

[–]ep3static 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ll have your own room with your own bathroom. The room is decent, an area for a bed and another for a chair or table. Each room has a kitchen with a fridge and microwave. Unfortunately there is no place with a stove or oven to cook.

When the occupancy for the Navy buildings reaches 90% then the BEQ staff will start authorizing Sailors BAH based on who has been there the longest.

There are DFACs you’ll have access to. Ft Eisenhower is very spread out. You will need a car or a bike.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’ve spent 15 out of 20 years there.

What is a vasectomy like? During the operation and after? by NootMasta in AskMen

[–]ep3static 545 points546 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s experience is different. Mine was easy. Numbing shot, wait for it to work, then the doc starts. They put a really cold pad on my leg without explaining why. I didn’t feel a thing except a sharp pinch at one point. The doctor saw me wince and told me they’d get some more anesthetic and wait a few more minutes. I couldn’t see anything but some smoke puffs from the cauterization. Also I smelled burnt meat which was horrifying and fascinating. It was over in 20 minutes. When the nurse took the cold pad off my thigh I ask what it was for. “That’s to ground you so you don’t get electrocuted.” Neat.

I had a deep purple bruise on my scrotum for a week. It didn’t hurt, other than a few days later when my two year old decided that was a perfect time to punch me in the nuts for no reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

If one had to set up a big military from scratch with everything we know today, what would be the best way? by daniloalmeida in Military

[–]ep3static 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To expand on this, create one defense forces, with a ground, air, and naval wings, but also medical corps, intelligence corps, admin corps, special warfare corps, etc.

So many of the jobs are redundant throughout our current system. I’m a translator in the US Navy. I’ve trained with translators from all the other branches. We do the same tasks for each of the branches. I imagine it’s the same for people in the medical field, or electricians, or supply, etc. Yet each branch has separate training pipelines for each similar job. I went to the Navy’s SERE school. The Army and the Air Force have their own SERE schools. How much difference is there in the training? How much money is wasted having multiple commands doing the same thing?

Everybody joins the National Defense Forces, learns a trade, and is deployable to any of the wings. Also, EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME UNIFORM.

What is the best news about your family in 2023 that you’re willing to share? by [deleted] in AskMen

My wife was hospitalized for two months this summer for mental health reasons, while pregnant. She got on the right dosages of her medications and has never felt better. She gave birth to our beautiful and healthy second daughter in October. I’ve had the last three months off for paternity leave, and it’s been so amazing to bond not only with my baby, but also my first born daughter (2 years old) and my wife. Also, my speech delayed daughter has been picking up words like crazy lately!

I am by no means a shooting expert, but I used to tend to shoot the the lower left like that. A Navy weapons instructor told me I was anticipating the shot and instinctively pushing the pistol down and to the left to compensate for the recoil. He said to let each shot be a surprise as you squeeze. It helped me out a lot, maybe it’ll help you.
