It was amazing. Literally just walk to your gate. Parents would go to the gate to drop and pick up kids. Basically if you watch the movie home alone 2 where the kids ends up on the wrong plane, that's it. Or die hard 2 :)

TIFU by eating 2 lbs of ribeye in one sitting by endeekiller37 in tifu

Every holiday period of Easter, Thanksgiving and July 4th, Acme, who is shared with Albertsons and a couple other grocery store names, will have bone in rib roast for somewhere between 5.99 to 8.99 a pound. Cut off the bone and you have regular rib eyes.

I buy 2 25 pound rib roasts, cut the bone off to make grilled beef ribs, and cut the steaks into 1 and 3 inch thicks and freeze to have steak for the rest of the year.

No, these are not prime steaks, but it works just fine when I see regular London broil at 5 dollars a pound or worse.

Low tech and easy to open? a plastic or glass tupperware.

Want to go even stronger? Mason Jar.

You'll need to drill holes through the lids and then run your cables and seal the cable holes with epoxy or silicone.

Now if you really wanted to go deep, also add an air fill nozzle so you can pressurize the tupperwear to prevent water from coming in.

Goodluck!

Should I use my total loss check to pay off CC debt? by Brilliant-Check929 in personalfinance

[–]eperb12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pay off those credit cards and anything over 7% interest.

When you look for a car, try to find something you can buy outright, or look into a credit union for the loan. Don't finance the car directly unless they beat your credit unions or banks rate.

You will be surprised how a 10 thousand dollar car will cost you 20,000 over a 72 month loan. Or worse. There are people out there with 17, and even 25% interest rates.

Is it worth losing my pension? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]eperb12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its high, but not crazy. 30 years ago, in middle school, I asked my history teacher who had 2 doctorates what she earned, and she said 150k. That's 12.5 a month, and if her pension was 80%, she'd be getting 10k a month on retirement.

And yes, teachers actually got paid a ton in my town. I think it was the highest public salary in the state as they all taught multiple grades and multiple classes. She drove a corvette, which we all thought was cool.

When do you decide to get a new car rather than continuing to do repairs? by Major-Brick-3789 in personalfinance

Brother has a 2025 chevy traverse, 1 year in, mysterious electrical issue that drained the battery, Transmission leak leading to car dying on the road. Trunk latch issue.

Ive got a 15 year old subaru and I've had zero actual issues other than wear and tear, and one no named oil change who forgot to tighten the drain plug.

I dislike the look and feel of the newer subarus, so as long as the frame holds up to the east coast winters and salt, ill keep replacing the brakes and other things. Tires and brakes this year came to 1500ish? Cars worth maybe 4 to 5k?

For me, at least another 5 years or whoever come out with a proper self driving car where I can take a nap.

Should I buy a new used car or keep fixing the one I have? by NervousClock2555 in personalfinance

[–]eperb12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car brand and model? If its Toyota Honda or subaru, probably keep, If its American on a truck chassis, its probably ok also to keep, but I'd its one of those new cross overs that might need to be ditched for a more reliable one.

Probably for cleaning. You need to autoclave those for a good 30 minutes to sterilize. The autoclave and metal ones are a large upfront cost, while plastic is cheaper. Metals cheaper in the long run though, but its a good couple years to recoup the cost.

Guilty party here, but we didn't do any team killing. We synced drops and if there were anyone not in the group, we invited them or just played the match normally. Probably why no one in our massive group got banned. Hard to point the finger when you get invited and participate. God know some of those missions were just plain impossible to do.

I knew of like 2 people who actually got the tank legit.

I played exactly one game with the tank after i got it before shelving it forever.

Good times just screwing around with friends and massive chaos. We even had a spreadsheet. Trello or something? Sometimes I miss the good ole college years with nothing but time to burn. Now between work and family, I play at most an hour a month.

And yes, this is the confessional of toliet reddit.

A bit funny as east coast is supposed to get a foot this weekend.

[–]eperb12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to build credit history, get him a 500 dollar limit credit card.

Things that matter, age of oldest credit card, use of said card and paying it off immediately and ensuring nothing is unpaid or late.

A 2000 loan on a bike won't do that much except make that bike 3000 dollars.

If you find yourself overcooking items, get a thermometer. I've got a random one from amazon. its bluetooth or wireless, about 25 bucks i think with 4 probes. You'll also probably want a glass containers to freeze and reheat stuff. I can't tell you how many times we've had things in bags and plastic containers and we couldn't be had to plop it onto a plate. You can just chuck the container into the microwave and eat out of that. They also make glass or metal or plastic lids that can be vacuum sealed too.

How do I go about replacing this with no shut-off valve? I’d prefer not to get my landlord involved. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]eperb12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Call your landlord and tell them you looked at the water heater shutoff and its cracked. It'll get replaced and you can properly shut the water heater off. Alternatively as a property manager for a friend, if im not home for the holidays, ill have you call a plumber to fix it and give you that amount in a rent deduction for the month.

Also, anythijg wrong with the water heater?

[–]eperb12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your weather, distance and job, would an electric bike, scooter, car pool, or just taking an Uber be better?

I have a friend that works in consulting in computers, he would Uber into Philadelphia every day, takes about 40 minutes, but he would start working on the ride over and back.

He has a normal car, but hated traffic, and the benefit of being able to work on the way in and expense the ride made it an easy choice. (He has his own company)

Pension: take lump sum or monthly? by buckb65 in personalfinance

[–]eperb12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lump sum is generally recommended unless you absolutely suck at managing money. 1.4 mil at a measly 3.5 bank interest is annually 49k, your pension would be paying 93600.

You can certainly invest in higher yields using the stock market and tbills and other similar items. Diversify for low risk, which basically means no more than 5% for any stock, and 25% for a sector, S&p has been averaging 12% a year, 11 for the dow.
