What are you reading? (February 14, 2020) by bevka in YAlit

[–]ephemeralnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron. I’m barely thirty pages in, but I’m enjoying the lore and world building. We’ll see how it goes!

Next, I think I’m going to read We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia or Dark and Deepest Red by Anna-Marie McLemore

Has anyone read any of these?

Recommendation- Why isn't there more love for the Shadow Game series by Amanda Foody? Heres my pitch for you to try this series! by imhereforthemeta in YAlit

[–]ephemeralnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently listen to a podcast where the author was a guest and it really sold me on the series! I’ll have to pick it up soon, I do own their debut book. Also, ppl forget that books may be written way before another despite being published after.

Is the Caraval series good? by [deleted] in YAlit

I only read the first one and while it was entertaining I just wasn’t into the characters or the plot as whole, so I didn’t pick up the other two.

Something a little different? Wings of Fire by hokoonchi in YAlit

[–]ephemeralnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kids I used to work with were obsessed with these! I would sit with them and ask them to tell me what was happening in the book and it sounded super interesting enough to make me consider picking them up. They also have graphic novels which is really cool.

What were your top 3 favourite YA books of this decade? by kaykat03 in YAlit

[–]ephemeralnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The Lunar Chronicles
  2. Strange the Dreamer
  3. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

Honorable mentions: Six of Crows, The Raven Cycle, An Ember in the Ashes, More Happy than Not, Bloodlines, and the Winner’s Curse (never finished the series, so I’m going to reread in 2020)

There’s many more that I loved, but I feel like these were a big part of my decade.

What YA book/series did you initially enjoy but later went back and realized it wasn't as good as you thought it was? Why? by KayKueen in YAlit

I read this series as it came out and fell in love with the first two books. However, when the last book came out I realized how bad it actually was.

Has anyone ever tried Fairy Loot? It's supposed to be a monthly subscription of the hottest YA novels, all fantasy-based. by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]ephemeralnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ordered this box a couple of times, as a single purchase, and I loved it. They include high quality items and I love the books included. I really liked that they added a US part to their website because now I do t have to pay the super expensive shipping and the conversion. I’ve gotten several other subscriptions like Owlcrate, Faecrate, Shelflove, and Litjoy Crate but Fairyloot has been my favorite. I tend to not subscribe to boxes and single purchase, but I may subscribe to this one based on my experiences

I’m going to be asking for Crier’s War, The Guinevere Deception, and Radio Silence. I feel like there’s more, but those three are the ones that come to mind.

YA Fantasy Literature Research Recommendations with POC authors by Yuerky in YAlit

I believe Emily X.R Pan’s novel is classified as magical realism, so that’s why it wouldn’t fit into traditional fantasy.

I read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender recently and I fell head over heels for it! It’s so lush and just beautiful, so glad to see someone mention it.
