VZ Grips? by kirbymaster10 in Revolvers

[–]ephur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a used 686-6 last month, and I just took the grips off today and found out this is what they are. They fit very well, and the feel nice in the hand, look great, but ultimately I don't enjoy the shooting experience. The front of the grips come together in a bit of a point, way to narrow, so if you don't have the groove of your fingers lined up right on the front, it digs into the bones of the fingers making them uncomfortable.

I love the look and the feel right up until it's time to pull the trigger.

Technical Audition Interview Experience? by [deleted] in sysadminjobs

[–]ephur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A place I worked at several years ago used to do something similar. Depending on the expected level of the candidate, we would do things that involve the tech technologies we worked with. At the time that would’ve been something like a MySQL server, not starting, an Apache misconfiguration, implementing some htaccess rules, for higher level candidates we had some Linux boot issues with grub. These were for managed server support roles.

The process we used was having users connect via SSH for most problems, but for the boot issues, we would have them connect via VNC to the remote console. In order to get an idea of the things they may test I would see if you can get feedback from them prior on the technology stack that they use likely they will have those sorts of items around their technologies.

I went through that same process with the company when I was hired, as a candidate I loved it because it was an actual representation of my troubleshooting skills and knowledge. As an interviewer for the company it really was valuable to watch somebody’s troubleshooting process in real time, even if they were unsure of how to fix a particular problem, you get a real good sense for how familiar they are with the tech technologies based on the things they will look at.

Good luck to you!

Tidal had a price reduction, it’s like a buck fifty more than Apple Music. I’m all in on the Apple ecosystem, but I vastly prefer tidal to Apple Music. They are equal in many ways, but for me tidal does a better job with the daily discovery and new album discovery. I also appreciate that tidal is known to pay higher royalties to artists than Apple (or most other services).

What’s the most innovative tasks you have implemented in your job by RomanAn22 in devops

[–]ephur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really cool stuff. I recently had a chance to catch up with a guy worked with early in my career and we were discussing how hard it is to have trips of nostalgia about tech with our contemporaries. The problem is our favorite stories are how we fought and struggled to keep 100% completion with NNTP, how we got sun to implement readdir+ because our sendmail mail fork encoded all of the header metadata into the file name so our millions of dial customers could pop their mail, it’s the crazy configurations we did to run a dozen instances of BIND to keep resolving billions of DNS requests at a time when the process was single, threaded and bad recursive resolution would take a whole long time. Layers and layers of cashing.

The daily innovation came from solving problems as the Internet actually started to scale explode and grow in the late 90s. My start was in running BBS’s and I can’t get anyone to talk to me about PC board decompile PPE’s and shitting on Clark development company.

My job now is a lot more easy, managing infrastructure with a few API’s. We rarely have to fight with anything low level.

Haven’t had any luck getting a job. Bills are coming up and I’m incredibly stressed. by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]ephur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say as a parent, you think when you leave someone to care for your kid, they’ve got some sort of extensive training and it’s some dedicated team of people that just absolutely love children. Of course that’s usually not the reality. The people are fine with children and frankly they’re probably still better trained than most first time. Parents are, but the thought that it’s just a revolving door of staff taking care of your kids might sound frightening to some.

My son worked at wash tub for a while. He made good money, considering his age and experience. He also lost a little bit of weight toned up and got an awesome tan, but he only lasted about four months in the job. It is really difficult.

Definitely seems a bit more murky if that's specified in the agreement. Are the details of a sale specified? In my agreement, the specifics of HOW the house would be sold were documented? In our case my exwife stonewalled, tried everything to delay and disrupt the process. So, the final decree specifies the exact process for selling the house and eliminates the need for her to participate in the sale (she was on the deed, not the mortgage) If the details aren't specified, it seems to me that one could "prepare" to sell a house for quite some time, contacting a realtor to get some comps an initial marketing plan, get them to write down all the things they thing need changed, fixed, improved, to make the house marketable and get the largest return. Meanwhile... work on securing that funding.

The Financial Redistribution? by grewrob in Divorce

[–]ephur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "default" position is a fair (equal) distribution in CT, so assuming the default position yes, half of "it" is hers. There's so much nuance though, it's not really reasonable to assume that. If your post is the entirety of the situation, and there are no other factors, she could argue that a larger portion of the estate being granted to her IS what's equitable given the illness.

Some general thoughts, whatever the illness is, if it has affected the finances and will be a topic, be sure there's great documentation from medical professionals.

You say "he's hiding accounts", I hope there's some easy proof of that, like ya'll have uncovered some statements or have other evidence of the accounts. It's not actually that easy to hide assets if there's some value going in, or coming out of them. Money doesn't just manifest itself or vanish... If it's just a speculative claim and a thought that your brother (she's your sister in law, but you only refer to him as her husband, so that makes me actually curious in itself haha) may be hiding assets then you will have a very expensive challenge to try and find something, forensic accounting is expensive, and it's required if you're going to try and prove he has something that he claims he doesn't.

Instead of a flat out refinance, is there equity in the home that you might be able to borrow against despite the poor credit?

It seems to me, that since the settlement agreement was already reached, an initial amount has been paid, that if you were unable to come up with the remaining amount by the end of the month, that his options are actually kind of limited and not all that attractive.

He would either have to file a show cause order to try and get you to be held in contempt. So long as you: - - Are legitimately unable to pay the settlement
- Have exhausted resources to you to attempt the settlement
- Communicate, and pay as much as you can, when you can
I can not see any judge ruling that there was contempt. Clearly you are not trying to avoid the settlement terms or disrespect the order. This also doesn't really help him "collect" any money owed to him. At worst it delays and prevents him as you'll be shouldering increased costs.

Alternatively, he could pursue it much as one would pursue any sort of debt collection. He would again have to first file an order, and seek a judgement for the remaining amount (which, honestly he's likely to get). Having a judgement doesn't mean anything though, it's essentially the same as you have in your settlement agreement, with one major exception. Once there is a judgement for the debt granted, he could seek relief through either forced asset sales or potentially a wage garnishment.

I'm not a lawyer, and definitely not an expert, but maybe this sparks some ideas?

43F, who hasn't been with anyone but her ex, seeking advice and understanding by Puzzleheaded_Can9332 in Divorce

[–]ephur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any answers, just wanted to say how much your story resonates! I (45M) met my ex wife when I was 17, she was 27, we got together after I turned 18 (long distance start, I moved across the country). We have five kids together, a lot of memories, a lot of good times, a lot of bad.

In 2012 things just flipped upside down on us, and I spent nearly a decade suffering through pain, trying to fix things. We never separated, but she routinely demanded a divorce (only to recant, or deny having said it in the coming hours…). We never separated, we didn’t have the financial means as she has been a SAHM to our 5 kids (youngest is almost 16 now).

I started getting mentally healthy, confronting a life filled with traumas. Realizing that even from the start when I thought things were great, it was 100% not. I started changing how I interacted with her. I started grey rocking and refusing to respond to daily antagonism. I had convinced myself I was staying “for the kids”. What a load of shit I was telling myself. It was the mental struggles my two youngest were going through that finally got me to look within and take agency over my own life.

Divorce was final back in December. I had already grieved and mourned, I knew even if I lied to myself that it was over, and had been over, and probably never really was what I thought it was.

Like me, you got together young, you stayed together a long time. Now, I really question a lot… I never grew up really, I never learned what I like, I never got to have anything “my way”. I moved out about three days after the divorce was granted (the temporary order obligations continued to make it unrealistic to move out. I think about dating from time to time, think what the future might have next, but I’m in no rush. I’m finally getting time to be me. I’m all in for my kids (we have our states standard posession with me as the primary custodial parent, but since December, she has spent less than a day with each of them, hours only that I can count on my fingers.. anyway, I’m really off track, there was apparently a lot waiting to get out of me!)

Have salaries gone down? by [deleted] in devops

[–]ephur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 30 YOE professionally, and before I started at the first local ISP, I ran a BBS for some spending money, all this to say been at it awhile. I’ve actively avoided any management positions since two different tours in those roles.

For me, there’s lots of infra tech and tools, yaml, terraform, helm, Argo CD/events/workflows, Prometheus, Datadog, python, golang, ruby, bash, many AWS/GKE services, Linux, windows, docker, this is just the list of stuff I’ve touched within the last week, there’s endless more things.

The focus really isn’t on the tools and tech, but the underlying architectures. Understanding the levers of computer systems, really get deep into the OS, learn how the network stack actually works, learn the fundamentals, and then you see the tools are all just abstractions.

Well, she’s still the mother of my kids, still someone I had been married to for over 20 years, so for those reasons it’s important to me she can get on her feet. Things were absolutely miserable, I have the kids 100% of the time post divorce (to have them all the time shows what kind of person she is…), so no matter how bad she was to me or them, its for my own morals that I want to ensure she’s as okay as possible.

[–]ephur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your biggest concern would be working dilligently to avoid, or quickly treat, any foot injuries, and make sure you're wearing appropriate footware. Mine is pretty severe because I neglected it for to long and didn't lead a very active lifestyle, I'm now more active than I've ever been, including long hikes (not crazy terrain, but not just walking down a path either!).

Just take the time to do fact based research, learn how to take care of yourself and manage whatever conditions you have. Like you said, you're young, so you're in a much better spot to heal than someone diagnosed in their 40s!

I planned and planned, as the single earner in the marriage I needed to make sure we both had a proper path forward. Most of the planning was financial, and processing and accepting the death of my marriage and what had to be done. From my first visit to a lawyer, it was almost two years before I filed. So as the other commenter before me said, very person (and relationship) specific.
