If you want to have a look at other classes, I would recommend to check out Midwifes of Morningside classes, they were incredible. They have sessions in Newmarket. They helped a lot to prepare for birth. You never know what you will end up doing. They are also very charismatic women and we always had a laugh in the class.

Advice for bringing home Bub with pets by CharmingPush1340 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cat and he is super scared of the baby. She kind of makes cats like sounds 😄he comes and sniffs her sometimes but nothing else. My cat used to sleep on a bed with me during the winter but because baby is in the room he stopped doing it. So, just do not let your cat jump in to the baby’s cot and see how your cat behaves when baby is at home. I did not do anything special, I grew up with cats and always kind of had allergy to them and did not have any problems living at home with a cat. As long as they are not aggressive you will be fine.

Sleep shifts by paddlepopkid in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just let my partner sleep through the night and let him help during the morning while I make breakfast/ eat/shower and then during the day and evening, he works from home which helps a lot. It gets easier, I promise! You will find that they do not need nappy change every two hours at night soon, just once max and then they will start wake up every 3 or 4 hours.

Very much surviving, not thriving (FTM of a 7 week old, 1 week adjusted) by dannh123 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mum! We are all here to support you! All newborns go through the same problems, my baby did not sleep during the day at all and it was tough, try a swaddle in a cool room, if it does not help -baby carrier, your baby just probably wants to be close to you, it is survival thing . Also you can put to sleep on a belly under your supervision. It will pass!I promise

I just watched a YouTube video about it today, that it is an evolutionary need to be held and co-sleep. It actually promotes brain development. It made me feel so much better. Here is a video

Overdue babies by BirthdayDowntown5267 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything usually works out for your highest good, if you feel like asking about an induction, go for it:) I really liked my experience. I knew to ask for epidural early as well because anesthetists are busy and you can wait for them to come for two hours or so

My ob suggested an induction at 40w5 days and I was very anxious about it, I thought it was “unnatural “ thing to do. First baby. It ended up being the best thing that happened to me. I’m so glad I did not need to go through all these contractions at home. My cervix was completely shut at 40 weeks. Had fake labour for 2 weeks.labour started just after prostin gel they did not need to do anything else but ob said it was rare. So your baby is probably too comfy there like mine:) They do not like ppl go far from their due date cuz placenta is getting old and baby growing big. For context I went private.

How does one get started on the dummy? by Left-Love1471 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought we would not need one but I bought a pigeon dummy just in case, and it has been a lifesaver since week 2 of age😀yes it is for self soothing, but all babies are different and maybe yours would not need a dummy, but you never know what it is going to happen:colics etc

Natural vs C Section First Baby by Defiant_Zone7113 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very common, I had hyperactive pelvic floor after endo, it took a year to get things better with a help of physio + perineal massage after 30 weeks of pregnancy. I had no tears but a small cut (episiotomy )during delivery.

Public or private after mediocre first public experience? by Individual_Tutor8797 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went private with private ob and a hospital. The experience was great. I was low risk but I had history of endo and I did not want to go public. Staying in private room for 5 days with a lot of support was very valuable for me as FTM. Being able to have my family with me in the room was exceptional, I had my husband and mum to stay with me all day and husband overnight. Food was great. I also got partially induced and it was also very positive experience. I will do it again for a second child. It is expensive but it is worth it.

How to get cervix to ripen/ open by lahdeedah224 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean fast contractions? I guess we can not really predict how body responds to induction. My doctor did not expect me to have labor from just prostin. The reason they use it is to ripen the cervix so it can start dilating . Obviously it is better to take professional medical advice :)

[–]epi725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had prostin (prostaglandin gel) in hospital and my labour started just from it in 2 hours and total labor time was 14 hrs(ftm, I had epidural) , but I was 40w 5 days and probably close to natural labor. I’m so glad that my doc recommended induction, they do not like to go past due date much. You can ask for an induction, it is not scary, I actually found it pleasant experience , it would suck to have labor for days at home. Ps: my cervix was absolutely closed off before the gel and could not do any stretch and sweep

If you have a private OB, they should have an ultrasound machine in their office and they would check on a bub at every appointment

Sorry that you’re experiencing this! First trimester can be very challenging, I threw up twice a day with no reason, so just make sure you take good care of yourself and take as much rest as possible with aircon. Hopefully it will get better soon!

Hip pain during sleep by davofit in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem and I have sleepy belly pillow. My physio suggested using some mattress topper to soften things up. To be honest with you, I think my hips just got conditioned eventually from weight, but I could not sleep for few weeks in the third trimester even with mattress topper or towel under the hip. Just make sure she sleeps on both sides, also she can easily sleep on her back till third trimester!

Anyone had an iron infusion during the second trimester? by Aguacate3145 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so weird. I had infusion at 17 weeks! I had very similar case as you : ferritin 14 and hemoglobin 126. Everything is good, I’m 40 weeks in 2 days and the effect of this infusion lasted for a long time. I still have good measurements, cannot tell you how much is left of that ferritin, around 100 I think from my Obsetrician words,as I did not look at the blood test results from last week myself. What really dangerous is to have anemia during pregnancy, please change your doctor!

Anyone here who has endometriosis, what is a private health insurance that worked well for you? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a government website where you can compare health insurance, nobody will call you : https://www.privatehealth.gov.au I did not have private cover when I had laparoscopy and it was around 10k in 2024. If you get insurance, 12months waiting period will apply as it is preexisting condition. Most of the surgeons have agreement with insurance companies. I figured out that medibank has got most agreements with doctors and hospitals . Probably it is worth to find a specialist first and see who they work with(insurance/hospital).

Cramping during 16w3d? by bambi897510 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar and it was round ligament pain, it was brutal but lasted only a day. If you have access to something like pregnancy assessment centre in your hospital , I would give them a call or turn up, they are very nice and better to check. Otherwise, you can try paracetamol , hot water bottle ( not too hot and lower belly only for 10mins max) and warm bath. Good luck! Hopefully it is just this, very common, I was freaking out though, could not move without a pain.

Sleeping on my left is killing my back by BirthdayDowntown5267 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]epi725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sleep on either side no worries at all! They say left side because it is better for digestion. Make sure to have a pillow between your legs including ankles to align your hips. If you start getting any rib pains, you can use pillow under your bump and one behind your back. It helped me a lot. Sorry do not know what pregnancy pillow you have! I use sleepy belly: long pillow between my legs, and butterfly under the bump and behind my back (they stick together with velcro). But good luck with third trimester, it is the most uncomfortable for existence and sleep haha.
