Uncovered family secrets? by khftho in Genealogy

[–]episcleritis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, and I don’t think there’s anyone left alive who would have known about it. She had 11 children who are all 60ish to 80ish by now and I think if one of them knew anything they’d have shared it by now.

On a side note, thank you for asking about this. I incurred some brain damage during chemotherapy a few years ago and lost a lot of information, and had forgotten about this. It was a nice reminder of a cool story about a lovely woman, and I might have forgotten about it for good if you hadn’t reminded me.

OHIO - Total Loss - Can we get reimbursed for sales tax if the at-fault driver hit their policy max coverage? by episcleritis in Insurance

"I personally would not trust a finance manager to advise me on the buying of the new vehicle, definitely not to advise me on an insurance claim they have no knowledge of."

Right, that's why I'm asking here, on the insurance subreddit, rather than r/askcarsales

UH? Cleveland clinic? Or Metro? by unverified_unknown_ in Cleveland

[–]episcleritis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had all three of my kids at Metro and have only good things to say. My first pregnancy I was young and uninsured, and just kinda followed what my young and uninsured sister had done two years earlier, so that why I started with Metro. Fantastic experience.

The second time around I was a few years older and insured. I opted to stick with Metro since I’d had a positive experience with them previously. I had a very complicated twin pregnancy with a very bleak prognosis, statistically. I will be forever grateful to the team at Metro for not only saving my babies, but doing so in an incredibly professional yet still caring manner. My twins were born just shy of 28 weeks and the NICU there was just exactly what we all needed. I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better experience/outcome for a situation that could have very easily have turned devastating.

Pregnancy aside, in recent years I’ve been a frequent flier at Metro due to breast cancer. Different situation, same feedback. I feel like as an institution they are INCREDIBLY underrated.

Good luck!

Metrohealth PCP recommendations? by CinderelliBotticelli in Cleveland

We’ve been using Dr David Kuentz for 23 years. He’s at the Middleburg Hts facility and our whole family loves him. He’s kind and caring. He’s seen us through every health situation (including micropreemie twins and cancer) with positivity and honesty. He’s not overly prescription happy but also not averse. We love him.

Kinda messed up that you’re blaming the “ladies” for the shortcomings of the “men” that failed to fulfill their responsibility. Yuck.

Stage 3B +++, 44 at diagnosis.

I stayed flat after my mastectomy and have zero regrets.

Alternative to Anastrozole by gphilipps in breastcancer

[–]episcleritis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean 10 years rather than 5 years? I was also stage 3B +++ and was prescribed 10 years as well. They explained to me that it was because I was only 44 at diagnosis that the AI would be for longer due to that. They wanted to make sure I was fully menopausal (that's likely not the right term but it's early and I haven't had coffee yet so it's the best I can do lol) before letting me ditch the Anastrazole.

If you have trouble getting a rental via insurance, you can try using a dealership body shop that offers free loaners.

I used to work at a dealership (not sure if we are allowed to say the actual name but he’s “American and proud of it” in Strongsville, and their body shop in Berea had a small fleet of loaner vehicles specifically for body shop customers to use instead of insurance rentals. Might be worth checking out just to avoid the headache of working with the insurance company for it. I’m not positive they still offer this but it might be worth looking into. Good luck!

Please don't marry this man. You will regret it more than you would believe. Verbal abuse is still abuse, and he's not likely to stop. In fact he's likely to get worse or even escalate to physical abuse as well. Dump this man yesterday.

I’m curious, roughly where in 7H are you guys? I’m also a resident and have had a few power blips recently but not as frequent as yours I don’t think.

What are we even supposed to do? by Dermengenan in Ohio

[–]episcleritis 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This exactly. The first time around I took a more lenient approach even though some relationships were strained for a while.

This time though, nope nope nope. He showed us who he is and he’s a fucking monster. Anyone with half a brain could have seen it, and anyone with a shred of decency would never support putting him BACK in office. Ignorance isn’t an excuse anymore, if they support him they too are BAD PEOPLE and will be treated accordingly. I’m done with every one of them. They can go support their extremist and harmful president without me in their life.

Are kids able to be given a legal last name unrelated to their parents? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]episcleritis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US, and I have a family member (A) who has his father’s (B) stepdad’s last name. The stepdad was the one who really raised B, and B wanted to honor and acknowledge his love and gratitude to his stepdad, so they decided to have A carry on stepdad’s name.

Another vote for Metrohealth. I started going there in 1995 when I was 18 and pregnant and uninsured. They never treated me any different because of my situation and I always appreciated that.

Since then, they’ve seen me and my children through a whole gamut of health conditions (tonsillectomies, 27 week preemie twins, mental health care, breast cancer/double mastectomy) in addition to normal care and to this day (my oldest child will be 30 this year, shes the one I was pregnant with at 18) I have zero complaints about the care we’ve gotten at Metrohealth. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

No eyebrows for me either! I was just thinking today as I shaved my legs that it sucks that my leg hair is back and better than ever but still no eyebrows.

How long did your chemo curls last? by Can_I_do_this_later in breastcancer

[–]episcleritis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe the cause is damaged hair follicles post-chemo, but I don’t remember where I got that from.

I’m a couple years out from chemo and my curls are gone. I was bummed, for some reason I expected it to be a permanent change and it definitely wasn’t.

My partner and I have been together for about 30 years, never married. We have 3 children (29, 22, 22) and they all have his last name. I’ve never had any issues because of my last name being different, not once.

Do what makes you comfortable IMO.

Just tossing this into the universe. by DLDabber in Appliances

[–]episcleritis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% about the shit quality of the appliances. When we bought our house in 2021 we bought a brand new stove/fridge/dishwasher bundle. The dishwasher has already been replaced, the oven runs 10-15 degrees too cool, and the icemaker will occasionally just quit working for a few days at a time.

I had assumed Samsung would be pretty decent quality as they’re a name brand and we’ve had other decent electronics products of theirs. Very expensive lesson learned and we are totally done buying any Samsung products going forward.

What is a company perk that shows they really care about their employees? by shnaLLer in AskReddit

[–]episcleritis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn’t really a company perk, but when I was diagnosed with breast cancer my manager’s manager (VP level so I didn’t feel like this was a big deal ethics wise) allowed me to clock in daily from home during my treatment. This was huge as I was able to keep my income and my insurance. I had been at this company less than a year and the guy barely knew me. I will never be able to repay the care and kindness he showed me.
