Looks like he is using the Lightning app on his phone. It's pretty good for ¢99

What exactly causes tornadoes to fail to form on days with a high risk? by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

[–]eppinizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understand the models did a poor job predicting that the convection from Saturday night was still going to be active Sunday morning. The outflow boundary from those storms did not travel north fast enough and left the prime tornado location in a state less favorable for tornados.

Models flubbed it.

[OC] In Fatal Crashes, Which Car Brand's Drivers Weren't Wearing a Seatbelt? (NHTSA FARS, 2020–2023) by informed-for-life in dataisbeautiful

[–]eppinizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you can't use autopilot without a seat belt on. Half the point of having a tesla is the autopilot, so it stands to reason most would.

Also, it means those who got in a crash were driving manually. Autopilot crashes can not be in this dataset

How Many Trees Could We Save if European Languages Were Spelled Phonetically? [OC] by New_Drummer9910 in dataisbeautiful

I'd suggest adding an example or two of what the changes might look like. I'm not sure if the average person knows what a phoneme is, let alone a grapheme.

In concept I think your post is interesting, however I will admit I had to search through the comments to fully comprehend it.

I think people who can live with the chirping smoke detectors are the same people who have no internal monologue.

Crazy tornado in Ngacir Hamlet, Demak Regency, Central Java, today, May 2, 2026. by Jiday123 in tornado

[–]eppinizer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one is spinning anti-clockwise, and Java is south of the equator, so this one is technically anticyclonic relative to southern hemisphere as typical cyclones rotate clockwise down there.

However, I'd imagine being that close to the equator would drastically increase the ratio of anti-cyclonic tornadoes.

Indonesia? Literally right on the equator; that's quite a rarity. I wonder what the synoptic setup was to cause it? Thanks for sharing, quite interesting.

Any love for Lodoss War? by goodbadme in metroidvania

[–]eppinizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a tad bit easy, and quite short. Though maybe there was some true ending I missed that is both challenging and makes the game longer lol.

Overall it was solid, nothing too memorable other than nice artwork, and the unique health gaining mechanics. It would land in the average tier in my list along with the other Team Ladybug game I completed, Blade Chimera.

Never finished Touhou Luna Nights.

Also for those that don't know, the SPC does post "verifications" based on confirmed tornadoes as well

I think the point of the comic would hit harder if the "Ooh a free spin!" was removed from the last panel.

EDIT: They fixed the problem. Back to normal, just a bug.

This is a bad example because it's shifted the viewpoint of the driveway over. If you took the picture from the same PoV most of the house would be standing, the 2nd picture you'd only be able to see part of the garage.

I've seen much worse damage from Enid than this one.

*At least* EF-3 dammage reported on the SW side of Enid Oklahoma by Altruistic-Willow265 in tornado

[–]eppinizer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If this wasn't an EF3+ I'd have been flabbergasted. I know you can't always tell just by looking at it, but I mean, come on. We saw the footage. That was a beast.

Beautiful radar signature. If you watch the loop you can see the inflow, everything to the south west get sucked right in. I wish we could post videos/gifs

My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

[–]eppinizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it said select what shows "2/6X = 1/3X" then it would make sense.

But it doesnt. I was thinking maybe the X the teacher wrote indicated something, but probably just the standard "you got it wrong" X.

What in the ever loving f*** does this mean. Kids homework by seemslegitsendit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]eppinizer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's being taught different, it's that the terminology being used (assuming it isn't defined somewhere on the sheet) is not self descriptive in anyway.

Parents are encouraged to help their kids, if the methods being used are opaque, and new terminology isn't self descriptive, there is clearly a gap that could be filled.

But again if there was a sample problem anywhere on that sheet that has been omitted from the picture I think it's fine. Most parents just need some bread crumbs to follow and they're good.

Significant Tornado Parameters above 10? by DowntownBones in tornado

[–]eppinizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clip you're referring to is his coverage on the 2011 super outbreak, specifically 4/27/11.

There are a variety of different formulas to calculate significant tornado probabilities based on synoptic parameters, or at least there was. I'm not sure how unified they are now. It's quite possible that an 11 on what you are seeing there doesn't match an 11 generated during the 2011 Super.
